Always love coming here. Big selection of fresh seafood, including Maine lobster (get it A La Plancha!) Cool vibe, great decor, friendly service!
Service was slow and items missed
Oysters were fresh and tasty but most contained chips of oyster shell, so their shucker was not very good or into much of a hurry. Caesar’s salad dressing out of a jar, Romain leaves in a small bowl needing to be cut. Octopus tacos scorching hot even without the chorizo. Muscles were large and plump perhaps the best item. The service Felt like they were pressuring us to finish up and leave. The noise level was intense.
Great food and servers; it seems to be getting noisier by the day. Am considering stopping to go there, because nobody can hear anyone.
It was a great experience, the entire night was perfect and the food was amazing.
Enjoyed the dining experience!
Voted #1 best lobster rolls, we come back every time we’re in San Diego
Wow the hospitality was phenomenal
Evan and the lady chef shucking oysters like gangsters
Thank you so much for your hospitality and a BEAUTIFUL restaurant
I had high hopes for our meal here, but I can say it was somewhat disappointing. The one high mark I would give would be to the service. They were very friendly and helpful. Most of the food was very salty. That was my biggest complaint.
Excellent seafood and happy hour. Very attentive service.
I love this place! second time here and was as good as the first. great, interesting cocktails.
what a neat place! great service and recommendations from Brittany, food was incredible
Great dining experience at the kitchen counter seats and being able to watch the chefs and cooks complete and plate the various orders. An organized cooking staff with good communication. Entertaining as well as delicious.
the choices for a plate were limited more than in the options that are shown online.
This place is amazing food and drinks are just superb!!!!
Quality of the seafood was very good, especially the oysters. The menu could use a few more side options but the variety of seafood dishes was good. Service was outstanding - friendly and helpful in choosing from the menu. We had a great seat outside on a Friday night which was great people watching. Drink list is great.
Thank you for having us and thank you for making dating easier.
Great space, love the decor. Service is spot on and what a great happy hour! Will return again and again.
Has a very nice vibe. Food was excellent. We had a dozen oysters, claim chowder, and the swordfish. All very good. We were seated in the bar section st a high top which was a little cozy but not too bad
Had eaten at Ironsides several times before when we are in San Diego. Everything was perfect! Staff told us about there happy hour menu and it was incredible! Had 2 dozen oysters and clam chowder also ceviche....staff incredible and knowledgeable.....I think this is now my favorite seafood restaurant.
Best lobster roll in San Diego that I’ve had. Nice Berra on tap too
We ate at Ironside two evenings, one at the "chef's" area, which was nice but a bit away from everyone. Would have liked to have had some conversation with the chef and staff, etc. which would have justified 5 stars. Very good food, nice atmosphere, and good service. Would recommend.
Delicious and fresh! Wonderful and refreshing and food is locally sourced as much as possible!
Great spot if you’re in San Diego. They source all their fish from local fisherman. The food is delicious and the service is excellent! And FYI from 3:00-6:00 they have $1 oysters👍🏽
Oysters and cocktails were great. Lobster roll okay. Ambiance was fantastic. Food took a while to come out, so we wish we didnt come starving. We would come again!
The New England clam chowder is fantastic...only outdone by the unbelievably delicious lobster roll.
Very pleasant lunch experience. Good menu selection. Food was fresh and nicely prepared and presented.
Excellent food and service.
This was my 2nd visit to Ironside and, just like the first time, the seafood was exceptional and it was the reason I came back. Unlike the first time however, the serving staff was terrible. I am not sure if we actually had a single server assigned to us as two individuals took our orders (one for drinks and dinner and a separate one for dessert). This was in addition to the relatively normal secondary players that deliver food, bring water and the like. But the two real wait staff were both overtly snobbish, condescending and uninformed. When I asked if waiter 1 had tried the Tempranillo rose wine, he immediately suggested that the others were sweeter (both not what I wanted and not what I asked); the waitress 2 for desserts indicated that the only after dinner cordials were on their spirits list - even standards like Drambuie, B&B and Sambuca were unavailable. I settled on a cognac (served in a rocker glass?) only to look up at the bar back wall bottle display where I could clearly see the Drambuie, B&B and Sambuca bottles! I realize that this text of the experience does not convey the delivery but it was something that my two dinner guests picked up on without my prompting. Perhaps they were both having a bad day. I've been there but where a dinner for three pushes $300 without tip, I expect well trained, well educated, professional wait staff that knows what they are talking about and convey it as a professional worthy of a 20% tip. The food was exceptional - now they just need to make the experience up to that level with a well trained professional.
Not impressed. The salad had way too much dressing and seeds. The crab cake was loaded with mayo and the gumbo was flavorless.
Uncomfortable and too close high top seating. Definitely won't be back.
Went to Ironstone in June while I was here on a business trip. Well business brought me back to SD today and my first stop was Ironside. Ceviche and Tito’s Mule, yes please! Had the lobster roll and their Ironstone bread, what can I say. It was so yummy! Defiantly a place I will come back to again!
Server was a little distracted- asked if we wanted another glass of wine but then didn’t bring it till the meal was finished, we laughed when he put it on the table!
He service is outstanding, the servers are extremely knowledgeable about the menu and really do a solid job of not just describing it, but really guiding you through after understanding the flavors you like, .. the seafood is absolutely perfect.. the grilled octopus was my favorite.
What i was most impressed by in terms of service was our server greeted us by first name table side, and my guest had a very unique russian name that isn’t pronounced how you would assume it is by reading it, my server wasn’t russian but got it right perfectly, so clearly they had spent a little time researching before coming to the table, that little extra touch.. that’s impressive.. it was noticed, and turned into a conversation with the server as very few people ever get it right, but my guest was definitely impressed from the first encounter with our server.
Food was beautiful and courses were well timed out by the server/kitchen so we always had something on the table, there was no waiting and no feeling of being rushed or overwhelmed with food fired too quickly.
Essentially the entire experience was very impressive..
i love this restaurant management group, everything they do, they do right..
Great place for a special occasion or just appetizers and a cocktail after work..(the bar is beautiful- bartenders are great)
Poor seating, very uncomfortable. Food overpriced and small dishes. Drinks extremely expensive and small margaritas
Food was great. And love the location.
Service was not the best. The main issue was pacing of food, and overall attentiveness of waiters.
We ordered $120 worth of appetizers for two people (chilled seafood platter and Spanish octopus), and then entree (grilled bronzino) was delivered before we started the second appetizer. Typically wouldn’t be too big of a deal, but what made that extra frustrating was the small table we had, so there was not room for the entree to be placed down.
We made it work, but below expectations for this caliber of restaurant.
Thank you for making our anniversary so memorable!
We felt that the seats were very small and so hard to sit on we just had an appetizer one cocktail and left .
The service was not good either the waiter seemed like he was tired or unhappy idk .
Too expensive for what we got the ceviche was small and the cocktails came in small coupe glass which is in fashion now but the size was too small and looked ridiculous for a grown mans drink -
5 Star: Food and Atmosphere. If you like seafood this is the place!
Good value for happy hour: $1 oysters, $4 chowder, $11 ceviche. Lobster roll is decent price point for $24. Would return only for happy hour
Gave us the requested quiet table! Thank you. Blue fun tuna carpaccio was incredible!!! Good service. Oysters took awhile but were fresh and good.
