Amazing service and great food.
The service was outstanding and the food even better. We had the seafood platter and everything was great!
Great ambience, great food. Would recommend to others.
Delicious food. Unfortunately the main course came faster than the oysters but the staff comped the oysters! All the food was delicious and the atmosphere was modern and fun.
Had a wonderful dinner at the Ironside. The atmosphere was great, our server very helpful & the food was wonderful. Would definitely return again.
Exceptional fresh seafood. Food perfectly balanced with flavor. Raw seafood perfectly chilled and fresh. Hot entrees served piping hot. First time visiting, but won’t be our last. Fun, vibrant environment. A must visit if you’re in San Diego Little Italy area.
I'd not been here in over a year, but based on this experience, the food is still as good as ever. I'd say the ceviche was the best I've ever had. The octopus small plate was a strong contender as well. I recommended the lobster roll to my friend and had a bite of it, and that was great as well. Service and drinks were great as well.
Overall great experience. This is one of my favorite restaurants in all the western US.
Fabulous flavours of fish and seafood with much of it sharing size. Friendly service and efficient delivery.
Shut the front door this place was good!!!! Loved the tuna and the oysters! We will be back!
Our service was standard and a little slow. Our oyster on the half shell order was not the correct varieties as we ordered, it turned out to be the chef's choice. We did not contest it as it took quite a while to get them. The lobster roll was not as sumptuous as we had imagined. Overall, the ambiance was nice and inviting.
It was mour 5th time to go to thos restaurant, this time our waitress was not friendly at all! When we ask for our cork! She gave up with attitude!
I am surprised to see this kis of people in this very good place!
Limited menu, noisy. Small portions and expensive
I really like the decor and the feel of the place. I was disappointed that the cocktail menu that there were no vodka drinks. I settled for a split of Prosecco. My cousin really enjoyed his martini. I tried mussels for the first time and I loved the broth and the bread. The entrees ( swordfish and shark) were good, but not special. I would return for happy hour, but not for dinner.
Beautiful restaurant, however, parking is difficult even on a Sunday night. The sauv blanc was wonderful and the craft beer list is impressive. Shared the branziano, a bit too garlicky for my taste, had the delicious roasted shishito peppers, which were a generous portion, the Japanese sweet potatoes, all good. Perfect for a birthday celebration. Service was excellent. Only complaint was that the octopus el plancho was not sizzling .
Our third time there and we both struggled to find something on the menu we would like. Probably just not the right place for us.
Amazing bday experience for my boyfriend!
I didn’t think the food was great.
Lobster roll was greasy-not enough lobster
Salad was tasteless
We went to Ironside at 5:00pm on a Friday with a reservation. Seated quickly. We did not know there was a happy hour menu, but it was hard to pass up because it was such a good deal.
It's hopping. Very loud. Tables very close. I mention this because a family of four with two screaming kids, too young to be in a restaurant like this at 5:00pm on a Friday, sat next to us. It wasn't really anybody's fault, but it dampened the experience.
5:00pm is, of course, a perfectly reasonable time to eat out with kids, but probably not at a place like this mostly filled with younger folks having after-work cocktails and oysters.
Food was very good but not spectacular. However, we ate from the Happy Hour menu so probably unfair to judge. Very good value.
We ordered the octopus, clam chowder, shishito peppers, half chicken and charred broccolini. It was all delicious. The wait staff was courteous and friendly.
Quite loud. Menu that day didn’t really speak to me. May be more on me than on them. Had a veg side, some oysters and bread. Carrots were quite good. Bread I could have lived without- tastes like orange essence?
Went during happy hour and had awful service even though there were very few people eating in the restaurant. The food was mediocre - clam chowder was just ok, lobster roll had more of a mayo taste than lobster taste, and the Bloody Mary was just tomato juice. After reading so many great reviews we were really disappointed.
The ambiance and noise level were fine. We were seated immediately. Service was good. The clam chowder was a bit salty but delicious. The mussels, broth and bread were very good. The Caesar salad did not taste like a Caesar salad. Why radishes? But the worst were the crab cakes. Mushy, and was there any crab? I don’t know. We had heard good things about this establishment. Not impressed. My guests, to be fair, are from Baltimore, with the best crab cakes in the world. They rated them 2/10. The worst they had ever had! Sad.
Once again, a great experience. The only blip on the radar was due to other guests. We were seated next to a large, loud party but that was partially our fault since we requested a specific waiter so I can't blame Ironside. (I'd give you his name but then other people might start requesting him and I might not be able to get him every time.)
We typically order the "big" with extra oysters and a bottle of bubbly and to be honest, our visit to San Diego doesn't "start" until we sit down at Ironside Fish & Oyster.
ARRIVED EARLY BY 10 MINUTES AND THERE WERE MANY EMPTY TABLES. WE WERE TOLD TO WAIT AT THE BAR ANYWAY AND IT TOOK ANOTHER 15 MINUTES TO GET SEATED. NOT SURE WHY WE WAITED WITH SO MANY OPEN TABLES?
WAY TOO NOISY FOR A CONVERSATION.
THERE ARE MANY OTHER RESTAURANTS WITH VERY GOOD FOOD AND BETTER AMBIANCE.
The food is absolutely AMAZING. We had the pleasure off sitting at the counter where they make all of the bread, donughnuts, biscuits ..etc. The staff was so friendly...we had a blast!
What a great place, delicious morsels. You can’t go wrong here, order the oyster and octopus dish.
Outstanding spot in Little Italy. We decided to eat a little of everything from the raw bar and small plates section. Nothing disappointed and the drinks were on point. Service was normal for a busy night, but we didn’t have any where to be so it was fine. Very kid friendly as well which is always a huge plus with two little ones.
Great food and value
The food was good to very good. The service was a little spotty. The atmosphere was very lively and a good bar scene. The wine list was not very interesting.
First time at the restaurant; had been recommended to me by other friends. Food was great; service poor. Had to continuously remind them of food and beverages we had ordered that weren’t served.
The is very nice upbeat place for drinks and share plates. Seafood is fresh everyday and the menu changes everyday as well! The portions are on small side so multiple share plates are needed. Service is very good and upbeat. Will go back again given the chance!
My wife and I went to Ironside Fish and Oyster for a date night having been here a few times and really enjoying the food and atmosphere. Our experience did not disappoint and we really liked our night out. The food was very good, from the appetizers to the main course, yet the desserts could use a little more creativity and focus. Our reservation was honored the moment we arrived and we were seated in spite of the crowded restaurant, which makes a big difference to me and is the reason to use open table. The service was great and even included the filleting if our whole fish table side. We were never left waiting for anything and the restaurant wasn’t too noisy even though so crowded. In all, a great experience and wonderful food.
The ambiance is amazing as well as their staffs, but for a restaurant with so many great reviews up to date, their quality of food has dropped and literally almost everything was way too salty.
This place has $1 oysters 🦪 for happy hour which was at 3-6pm when I went, and I believe this is why most people go. I don’t like oysters 😅, but other people enjoyed them. The other happy hour items I had were the gumbo, fries and an octopus taco which were all good, nothing to write home about. This is the place to be if you like oysters.
Good suggestions on wine and food. Generous portion and well cooked dishes.
The seafood is outstanding here, and the presentations are too. Waitstaff was attentive. Prices are good, and there are small plates which give you an opportunity to try several items at reasonable prices. Noise level, however, is LOUD.
The ambiance was nice enough. Service was nothing acceptable...not bad, but not outstanding either. Prices were reasonable. Octopus ala plancha was overdone. Fish was undercooked. Sides were okay.
