Iron Rooster Ratings and Reviews
I love Iron Rooster! They're famous for their home-made pop tarts, which are a must-have starter to share before your meal. This is an all-day breakfast joint so if you're in a breakfast food mood, this is the place for you. The front didn't know we had a reservation which kind of sucked but other than that, everything went pretty well.
Food portions were small, too way to long for food to arrive at table. Average taste at best. Dining room is looking old. Stained ceiling tiles need to be replaced. I had high hopes, as this being the original Iron Rooster location. It’s become the worst of the 3 locations. A real shame.
Seated quickly after we arrived and within minutes of our reservation time. Service was good and prompt (and friendly). Everyone in our group seemed satisfied with what they had. I should have gone with the fruit instead of the Grit Cakes:) but that was my fault. The corned beef hash with over easy eggs was terrific by itself.
Something for the whole family. Just four salads on their supper menu, but they're tasty ones like the crab stuffed avocado salad. Entree prices are not exactly family-friendly (average is $18), but not outrageous. No side salads offered on the menu, but can probably ask for one. Good beer selection, and fun mixed drinks menu. Shrimp & grits is something they're known for, and it's good! They're also known for their house made "pop tart" which they call a roostart and it is always a hit, and very tasty. It comes in different flavors of the day. We have had them all and they're all delicious especially if you're one who likes pie crust. You can order "breakfast all day." My 11 year old son had the crab hash and almost licked his plate!
Sad to say we had to get up to leave before we even got the chance to eat. I organized this dinner outing for my older siblings and I to go out and celebrate the holiday. My girlfriend had never been to Annapolis so we spent all morning looking at menus and were excited when we stumbled upon your menu. We had a party of 7 and when we went to order drinks my girlfriend and I were denied service. My girlfriend is 23 and I am 22 years old. We had our valid state-issued licenses with us but were denied because they were vertical? Why in the world would I pay $75 for a new license just to change it to horizontal when my current license is still valid for another 2 years... No where in the reservation process was this policy stated, and I tried to find an alternative method for proof of age but was denied. The waitress brought over a manager and he didn't say a word. Grabbed our IDs, looked at them, grunted and put them down and walked away. He then had the waitress come back over to tell us no. We were extremely disappointed. Our party walked across the street and posted a $540 tab, just so you know what you lost out on. I was really looking forward to trying the rooster bites too. Could not have been more disappointed.
Made a reservation but still had to wait a while for our table. It was xmas week so they should of planned for crowds but they did not bc they were out of a lot of stuff- including wines and specialty drinks. We ordered the rooster chix app but had to send it back bc the chix was raw- pink and gummy. Meatloaf used to be amazing but was really dry this time. Burger was good, but not outstanding like it used to be. Ordered it medium and it was pretty rare. Chix noodle soup was flavorful but served warm/cold. Server was ok but not very accomodating with all the issues- was just kind of like deal with it which we did wo complaint. Its a shame, used to really like it here. I think this group has grown too big too fast and is letting its charm and attention to details slide. Feels like just another chain restaurant now.
The food here is always very good, service is fine and the energy is usually high. We've visited when the sun is up but I would guess it's even more lively in the evenings. All day breakfast is my favorite option; salads and sandwiches are also really good.
First time and unfortunately the last time we eat at the Annapolis Md. Iron Rooster. After checking in ( had a reservation) at 11:30 Monday we were seated in upstairs which was nice. The hostess was not welcoming but not a big deal with that really. Our waitress must have been having a bad day because she seemed to be struggling being cordial. Believe me , I understand that they can have bad days. Our son was a waiter during college and I realize it is a hard job. But , this is an honest review of our experience . The oreo pop tart was ok . Not as yummy as I had hoped. Kind of dry . I ordered the fried tomato and egg sandwich and it was mediocre . Not enough garlic aioli spread and thrown together on the plate, so I asked for more and I was half way done the sandwich when she brought more. My husband ordered an omelette and hash potatoes and he enjoyed his meal. I am not sure of what all the hype over this restaurant is and was disappointed in our experience. Took a while for the waitress to come back to get our payment. We weren't in a hurry so it wasn't an issue though. Being a monday it wasn't crowded so the staff shouldn't have been stressed. Unfortunately overall it wasn't a very enjoyable experience as hoped for.
My husband and I visited Annapolis and were excited to try the Iron Rooster. We were seated at a high top table in the bar area. From the start, our server was inattentive and dismissive. Our food order arrived from a different server as a "carry out" order. We stated that we did not order our food to-go, and assumed it was a mix-up with a different table. Our food came out a few minutes later, and had clearly been dumped from carry out containers. My husband's food was lukewarm and he flagged down our server to tell him. The server was defensive, argumentative and unapologetic. He brought his food back a few minutes later; it has clearly been microwaved. After this, our server never returned to our table, though he did walk by multiple times which was uncomfortable and awkward. The bartender (who was wonderful) stepped in and gave us our check and cleared our plates. The food was fine. It was nothing special, nor did it meet our expectations. The service was unacceptable. We would not return, nor we would recommend the Iron Rooster to a friend.
I went to Iron Rooster because someone recommended it. I was excited to go and went the day after Thanksgiving. The restaurant was fairly empty. The food was really tasty but what ruined it for me was this other customer who was talking so loudly it was obnoxious. We didn’t complain we just ate our dinner quickly and left. The food was good but it wasn’t a menu that I would return for again.
They changed their cocktail list and eliminated certain drinks, which was disappointing. They also changed some of their recipes and executed both the shrimp and grits and the fried green tomatoes poorly. It was a Saturday night too, so a little surprised they didn't have a better chef that evening. Quite disappointed as they are usually great.
I actually made the reservation for Saturday morning at 8:30am. I received a confirmation email, but when we arrived at the restaurant, we were told that they do not accept reservations on the weekends. The host informed us that our reservation would automatically be 'bumped' to the next day when reservations were accepted - for us Monday at 8:30am. We had to wait 30 minutes for a table, and they wouldn't cancelled the reservation for Monday. This experience makes me wonder why they accept reservations at all. Our waiter was great and the mixed berry pop tart was delicious. The waffle was very heavy however and did not make up for the frustrating reservation nonsense.
I was kinda disappointed this time, i always get the same delish shrimp and grits and convinced the rest of the table to do the same, it was very soupy and looked like it was rushed out before it had time to cook in the spices and get a thicker gravy as is what makes this dish so great! I hope this was a one time miss..
Despite a reservation for one person, I was seated 10-15 minutes late and after larger parties that walked in (without reservations) arrived (I was seated at a table for 4, so it's unlikely they were waiting for a smaller table).
Ordered a martini and specified the three ingredients; bartender took the liberty of adding green olives. When I declined the drink, the server was gracious, but the bartender was mad (I viewed him arguing with the server; he was specifically mad about the high end vodka used and having to discard it). After several minutes of watching him rant and the server returning to my table empty handed, I asked her to cancel the martini. While she assured me it was no trouble, I told her I witnessed the bartender and his drama and was canceling the drink.
The entree portions are small for the price. Two pieces of asparagus as the vegetable? The food is below average. It's unclear why this place is so popular. After three days, I still have not received my open table points; my points are generally added the next day from the other restaurants I have booked through open table. Go elsewhere; there are much better dining establishments in Annapolis.
The food was amazing and I would go back in a heart beat. Our server on the other hand could use some lessons in how to be friendly. Our table decided he was definitely in the wrong field of employment. I would have happily given our experience all 5 stars except for the server. he was a downer.
Iron Rooster has really gone downhill over the last year. Cursing by staff members in a room with children, waiters going MIA after being told that we were in a rush (after 1.5 hours of also being MIA), ridiculous waits for food (which then came with a nice long black hair) and flagging down people to pay (which trust me after that 1.5 hour mess, I was very tempted to just to get up and walk away).
Once seated I noticed that the upstairs host was constantly circling and talking, my husband heard him cursing, which isn't good for a kid friendly restaurant. The entire production of him seating people upstairs was really distracting and loud. This had never been noticed the other half dozen time I had come here.
The host realized that we had been waiting 45 minutes for our food - salad and tacos, heard me complain about it being ridiculous that everyone that came after us was served dinner and even grabbed our server to ask her what was going on, but didn't come over to talk to us or help the situation. Salad and tacos - I could understand the wait if the food had actually required cooking, but both items were assembly mainly, purposefully ordered because we under a 1.5 hour time crunch and wanted coffee.
Our server who was absolutely horrendous, was constantly walking through the room, but not stopping at any of her tables. Other staff brought out all of the meals including out own. I had to flag her over at least twice to let her know that there was hair in my food, once it did show up.
The highlight of the night was telling her after a 1.5 hour dinner, we were in a hurry to leave. This was the time that our all of a sudden, friendly and chatty waitress decided to go chum it up with another table, we waited 5 minutes and then flagged someone else down for the check. . I'm not entirely sure what her role was, besides being a speedbump in our attempt to have a nice dinner before going to the colonial players.
If you can snag one of the few outside tables, I highly recommend it! We started with the gravy fries - Excellent! I ended with one of the home made pop tarts - Fabulous! But, I have to say that the food in the middle was just okay. I had biscuits and sausage gravy - very little sausage and rather bland. Biscuits were dry. My companion had catfish and also said it was a bit dry.
Reservation made and confirmed by Open Table. Special request for a table on the first floor to accommodate guest on crutches. Greeted with a friendly hello and recognized (crutches probably helped) for our request.
Great chicken and waffles, and new discovery fried green tomatoe appetizer. Thanks for being our best stop during the boat show.
I’ve been here many times. It is usually pretty good. Great spot for comfort food. This time, tho, we were in the dark far back corner. The restaurant was understaffed and it took way too long for service. I will go back but the gold has lost its luster a little bit.
We had a reservation and arrived early. We went into the bar for a drink while we waited for the right time. First we sat at a table in the bar and when the waitress gave us menus we said we only wanted a drink while waiting for our table. She scowled at us sending the clear message that we were not welcome at a table. We got up and sat at the bar. The bartender tossed menus at us without asking us if we new what we wanted (we did). When he came back 5 minutes later we ordered drinks. He asked to see IDs and when my wife explained she left her wallet at the hotel, he refused to serve us. I'm 63 and my wife is 46. Seriously? We left, never to return. Lots of good restaurants in Annapolis with good and polite service to chose from.
