Iron Gate Ratings and Reviews
It was an unwelcome surprise to discover that the receptionist could not locate my reservation on the computer. As I had loaned my iPhone to an associate I was meeting with after lunch, I could not produce the confirmation number as shown on my phone. Fortunately, as we were slightly after the lunch rush. she was able to seat us. But I must confess this eroded somewhat my confidence in Open Table's system. (However, this has never happened to me before.)
This was a mixed experience, especially compared with previous visits. The food was mostly good, not so the service.
1) Took super long to get our waiter at any chance
2) My wife's steak was overcooked and the waiter laughed it off when we told him
3) We had to make do with a single serving of water, we never got a refill.
Excellent as always.
We always ask ourselves after eating at the Iron Gate why it has been so long since the last time and the only answer is there are so many great choices on the peninsula. The food is always dependably terrific and never disappoints. The wait staff are in some ways from a bygone era. The service is impeccable.
If there is any fault to be found it is that the dining room itself does not allow for any real ambiance and without losing seating it never will. That aside it is a wonderful place for a business dinner, romantic outing or special occasion
My husband and I were celebrating our 55th wedding anniversary, and the wait staff made it a pleasant evening by being attentive. We both ordered from the special meals that were offered for that evening. We were careless and didn't ask about the price and were shocked at the price of my husband's steak and lobster dinner. However, he said it was delicious, so it was worth the price. Perhaps, when a meal cost $74, the waiter might relay this information in a polite way.
Was told the server that had worked there the shortest amount of time was a novice of 17 years! Tells me why our service was so fantastic. They enjoy working there. Food was good. Timing was good. Atmosphere good. My server picked up that I needed my Caesar salad w/o croutons because it had to be gluten free. I didn't think to mention my g-f need again when ordering the grilled salmon, because grilled fish usually has no gluten. But my server remembered what I said and made sure the kitchen did not dust the fish with flour before grilling, which was their normal practice. Staff there gets 5 stars from me.
The four of us totally enjoyed our meal and the staff. The steak Diane was super and the Caesar salad was amazing. The staff was very attentive and made sure plates and silverware were added and removed as needed. The wine list was extensive. Don’t forget to order the chocolate soufflé. My observation of the ambiance was that this restaurant has been around for a long time and could use some newer decorating on the inside. I would definitely put it on my lists of favorites because of the food and staff.
The Iron Gate is one of our very favorite restaurants. Always have a wonderful dining experience. Food is always fabulous. Have never had a bad meal there. Always superb!! Waiters excellent, Food Excellent, Owners always acknowledge you when entering. All in all, its a 10++++++ for us. We highly recommend the Iron Gate to family and friends.
We were there Sat. 10/14/17. Unfortunately we did not get into the "petite room", which is our fav, but that's OK. We were at a table in the back against the wall. Again, no complaints. However, it was our daughter's 24th birthday, and her brother (who is disabled), and this is the ultimate restaurant for him, ordered the Steak Dianne, and they had to prepare it very far from our table - that was the highlight that our children were waiting for. That was disappointing, and I mentioned the birthday, etc., to our waiter, and he did not seem phased by it.
It still was a lovely meal, but hopefully next time we don't have to be so far from the Steak Dianne flames!
Always love the Iron Gate! Kaveh was not there that night, so missed him.
Colleen & Aaron Avila Big Fans!
Calamari steak was Under cooked they offered to give me another one and it was overcooked and tough. Caesar salad was overdressed, they call a table side preparation but all the ingredients were pre-mixed in the bowl and they just threw the lettuce in. This place is going downhill They depend on old clientele, need more quality control and bring more flavors in to their food again.!
as a 30 year customer, this was not up to the usual standards. The Vongolie was disappointing, and my chicken Marsala was a half a baked chicken, and not the usual sliced chicken breast I usually order. Before the food was served, the waiter came by the table 4 times to confirm our order. It took a long time before it was served and the waiter, unsolicited, apologized and said that the "baked chicken" took a long time to cook.
on the plus side, my date said her scallops were excellent.
Old School Dining - but could use a face-lift. Don't like the $40 per person minimum - not necessary. Plates with Iron Gate Logo are faded. Atmosphere needs to be updated. Loud with talking.
Loved the flaming dishes, staff is AMAZING, food is good, but not a lot of choices for non-fish or non-red meat eaters. Portions are good sized.
I cannot begin to say enough good things about The Iron Gate. Our meal was perfect in
every way. The Food was absolutely immeasurable to any restaurant we have been to
in years and we go out to dinner a lot so that is saying something. The only thing that was
better then the food was the service. I have never been so pampered and there were about
four people attending to our table.
In a nutshell - I really liked the place !!! :):):)
The Iron Gate is my favorite restaurant especially for special occasions. The food is very good and the atmosphere is fun with flaming dishes going off periodically. The deserts are fabulous. The ambience is old world with friendly, helpful waiters dressed in black. A great place to just get dressed up and have a great evening.
Wow I just cant believe all of the four stars! We were so disappointed. This was definitely NOT fine dining to us. It was so 'cheesy.'
1. started with the hostess casually dressed putting the napkin on my lap. really.so many little things like this.. like they want to be fine dining..but miss the mark.
2. five waiters all over 65 shushing each other and arguing... one even saying to the other"you are such a child",about five feet away.
3. Caesar salad.. loaded with dressing. was bit tasty.. but for 24.00? in such a crappy cheap wood bowl.. not a beautiful table side service.
4. One steak au poivre ordered medium rare came well done. The lamb chops ok.. but the sides on both so lacking no imagination, just cheap vegetables and mass produced scallop potatoes.
5. The ambiance.. or lack thereof. It looks like a Chinese Dim Sum banquet hall. The chairs are all banquet chairs, there are no cosy booths, or dimmed lighting, it is so bright in there and just a sea of tables, with two side rooms with just tables. Nothing to separate the room or any design. Then there is the constant freeway traffic of the carts going by you and bumping each other as the waiters are annoyed with each other. This is definitely not a romantic spot.
6. Two entrees, salad and a bottle of wine. total $250.00.. There are seriously better places to go.
oh wait! for that price we got a very cheesy plastic bag with a smiley face on it for our leftovers! It seriously looks like we went to Subway.
