Great food, reasonable prices. We got the empanadad to share - cheese and zucchini were good while black beans were a bit bland. The chicken sandwich was outstanding. It can get a bit noisy in the paio since it's right next to the blue line though.

The best dishes are the simple costa rican staples (Casado especially) great price, and the BYOB aspect is also a plus

The best part of our meal was the oatmeal shake. The yuka fries lacked seasoning, the steak (on both the sandwich and entree) was dry, and the fried pork was overcooked. We were in a party of 12 and this was a consistent theme (lack of flavoring and dry meats). Disappointing experience as we were really looking forward to it.

El Tico + Avena Oatmeal Shake. The food is so good here. I love that it's BYO so I can grab a bottle of wine and a few friends and indulge in some empanadas to start, the el tico for the main course and oatmeal shake to finish. The only negative thing I would have to say is that it's cash only...which is a little inconvenient, but is really pretty common in Chicago.

ordered the Guy Fieri special. That pepito sandwich is probably the best sandwich I've ever eaten. The oatmeal shake was also excellent. My only regret was forgetting to bring a bottle of wine.

The food was very good. We started with the Chifrijo, which was excellent. Great flavor. I was going to order the casado, but my fiancé did first, so I went with the chicken burrito. Not to be outdone, I also ordered a taco tico and we shared 3 empanadas, letting our waitress decide the flavors. The casado was a hodge-podge of items but very tasty. The burrito on the other hand was a bit bland and lacked significant flavor. The taco tico was a basic tacquito, covered in shredded cabbage, but with an excellent red sauce. The empanadas we were given were chorizo, beef and potato, and chicken. I thought they were very good, but my fiancé prefers them lighter and fluffier. The one down side was the sound of the train, it passed frequently and loudly.

The food here is delicious, service is fast/great and prices are so reasonable. Outdoor patio type seating in the summer is great. Chicken pepito sandwich on wheat is so delicious, ceviche is great and definitely leave some room for the oatmeal milkshake!

If you want a great place to eat and Byo, then look no further. Irazu has been a staple in my diet since moving to Chicago six years ago. Start with the empanadas and finish with a banana oatmeal shake.

My friends and I are obsessed with Irazu, it's almost embarrassing how often we dine in. BYOB is great - we just had a large group there for a bachelorette party and it was perfect! Everyone from out of town had a blast. It is no surprise that we will be dining again there soon!
