Among the panoramic skyline views include a fire pit, shimmering water elements, a video wall, retractable roof and more. I|O Godfrey has more space and unique amenities to offer than any venue in the city.
Get started at the indoor bar with plush banquettes and a VIP area. Breeze through the sliding glass wall and you’ll find yourself sipping drinks at the outdoor bar during the day, after work, at night or on weekends in front of the commanding views of Chicago.
Experience I|O Godfrey, where you can enjoy the day and dress the night.
The food wasn't that great but everything else was nice.
On Mother's Day, we had reservations for a party of 4. At first they seated us at a high top table and you couldn't get in and out to go to the buffet without interrupting someone else's meal by bumping into them. Plus my mother (who is a senior citizen) had trouble seating herself at the high top. We asked the waitress if we could be seated elsewhere and the high top issue for my mother was rectified. The next table was in back where you again couldn't get through to the buffet without bumping and sliding up against other guest. We ended up sitting by the door on metal patio chairs. I've never been in the restaurant business so I do not know what the root cause could of been but I'm sure there a better ways that this could of been handled. Maybe if the hostess would of told us that they are aware of the reservation but if we could wait for 30 minutes we would enjoy the Godfrey experience so much more. At least until tables cleared causing the aisles to free up. Why did they set up the tables so close to one another? We didn't have this issue during Thanksgiving. The wait staff seem calm under pressure but in the three times that I've been to the Godfrey the hostess staff always seems to struggle. And where was management - ensuring everything that everything runs smoothly. I understand Mother's Day is prime time but this experience has definitely had an impact on my view of the Godfrey. The food was good.
I would not recommend for mothers day. I was telling my mom about the view and how nice the roof top was leading up to Mother's Day and we were put in a side room with a tiny window. We were not even in the restaurant. It was very disappointing!
We had to wait for the 1 hour to get a high chair for our child. We we also sat in the conference room instead of the roof top. The service was also bad to a point where we left an hour later. This was not a good Mother’s Day for my wife and mother in law.
One of the best places to visit! Tasty food, great ambiance and awesome service!
The only thing I would suggest for next year is that we the face painter maybe moved to a better location. She was near the waffle bar and near the food which was a tight space, maybe by the easter bunny or the back room which I think was a hangout area? She did paint my daughter and it was wonderful !!! Great time!
Yes, I would recommend I|O Godfrey to a friend, but maybe not for Easter Brunch. It was very chaotic, which is to be expected when you have an event geared towards families with small children. That was not the issue. It seems the staff was just not prepared. The Easter Brunch menu for the event sounded amazing and the price ($39/adult & $15/child) was fantastic. However, the reality was not what was advertised. I never found the pasta station. They ran out of vanilla ice cream for the waffle ice cream tacos. The pancakes were burnt. The people working the waffle maker were consistently surprised when the waffles were burnt every time in a row, even after ignoring myself and other customers in line waiting who kept telling them its burning because we can smell it burning. The wait staff was very nice, but they seemed frenzied. We ordered a bottle of prosecco which they did not provide an ice bucket for until we asked for the 2nd time while ordering the second bottle. It was a hot day. At least we got it for the second bottle. It was very crowded as well, so it required a lot of climbing over/under things to get in and out of the chair at the table in between trips to the buffet. I get they were trying to maximize the number of tables to accommodate more people, but maybe just a few less tables would have made it more comfortable. I love I|O Godfrey on any other day, but maybe I will pass for Easter brunch next time. I'm not sure how the normal weekend brunch is, and I am still willing to try it out.
Venue was amazing, food was delicious, service—— HORRIBLE.
We went for Easter Brunch and it was a terrific experience. Beautiful setting in the city with the rooftop rolled back. The food was served buffet style and was good. We enjoyed the mimosa package as well. The service was exceptional.
Packed, alotta young families w children. Easter brunch on 4th floor roof top. Good was tasty.
I went to the IO Godfrey for its Easter Brunch. Despite a few operational issues - check-in process, the overall service from our waitress was top-notch. The ambiance of the rooftop for Easter Brunch was also top-notch. My party and I enjoyed having gazebo seating containing a sectional. The food was absolutely delicious and succulent from the steak carving station the omelette station and the waffle station. The unobstructed views of the Chicago skyline were breath taking! My daughter and I felt like we were in HEAVEN on Easter Sunday!
Great view and ambience.
I/O has a great view of Chicago's southern skyline, and while it's only on the 4th floor and therefore not in competition with the expansive view some of the higher rooftop bars, the view is still borderline stunning. The retractable roof, the small fountains and the fire pit all add to the ambience. The Happy Hour drink and food menu is solid although not extensive, with prices that are surprisingly low. We ordered some choices from the HH menu and some from the regular menu and they were all delicious. Every one of them. I'd return to I/O in a heartbeat. My only complaints are (1) that service is stellar in the early evening but as more people arrive, it takes a serious (serious) nosedive and (2) the server uniforms are really bad and imho rather demeaning. I get that those might be a conscious decision in order to serve more drinks but I think they'd do just fine if they upgraded the uniforms to something more tasteful for a River North bar. Just my two cents.
The food and waitresses were so very absolutely excellent!
Although I appreciate the ambiance of this restaurant, the brunch was very disappointing. The offerings were sub par and every time we thought the carving bar may be available, the "carvers" were no where to be found. We then had to put a order in for pasta, that took 25 minutes to arrive, and the portion size, although I am not a big eater, was at best a tasting for each of us. We were told that potato's (french fries) were offered at the carving station, but that, like the pasta, was not coming out in a timely fashion.. We asked the server/waitress if she could bring us some, and after 20 minutes, she arrived with the fries, and she was equally frustrated because I guess they were being scooped up as soon as they were put out. Overall, I would not recommend this place for a special occasion.
I come here for brunch often and the food is always great and the staff is so friendly and courteous... But in my opinion, I think the girls’ uniform should be a little more appropriate for family events... and perhaps more comfortable for them wear so they don’t have to keep pulling their shorts and skirts down.
I was very intentional in picking the IO Godfrey for the ambiance and “roof top dining” experience. I was a little disappointed to not be uninformed about our table being away from the roof top portion. Although the taste and quality of the food was very good, our seats were cramped in tight spaces.
Good view and pretty good happy hour special - 6 to 7 dollar drinks and food. Our waitress was also super attentive. Definitely Instagram worthy!
Food was good, but horrible service. Almost impossible to get the food as well as drinks. The staff was absolutely awful - would not recommend dining here. This is the third time I’ve gone here and it’s been horrible service every time.
This was for Easter brunch and it was a distaster. They were out of food and space even though with reservation. Service was awful and was incl. at 21% in the check.
My boyfriend and I went for the Easter brunch, and were so happy with the whole experience. The brunch buffet was delicious, and the rooftop is so cute. Highly recommend IO Godfrey for future events!
Reservation was for 6. Sat at a table for 4. Had to ask three times for 2 more chairs and then we were crammed in to a small space. No place settings or salt/pepper. Bloody mary was spilled on the chair by waitress, not cleaned up, and then guest sat in it. Waitress rarely came to table and then we were charged a 21% gratuity fee.
Loved the Easter Brunch but for $40, I expected a dessert table too. No desserts whatsoever!
What a place! Great view, cool vibe, outstanding brunch, awesome service and yummy cocktails. Anytime i can sit outside in the winter...in the sun...with a great view...count me in!! Great find!
I thought this would be fun for my friend’s 30th birthday. We went for Boy Band Brunch, which was advertised to start at 11. We showed up on time for our reservation and were told they were still setting up and to wait in the lounge area.
We were seated around 11:15 and only some of the food had been set out. The food was just okay- it definitely felt like hotel food. The boy band music didn’t start until 12:30, which was extremely disappointing. There was no karaoke and no dessert table as advertised. I would not recommend coming here for any time of special event they advertise, because we were extremely disappointed. Come for the view only.
Stopped in for brunch on Sunday after church and to see if the space would be appropriate for my husband’s birthday bash this year. Once you step off the elevator, the space looks warm and inviting for light conversation, cocktails and appetizers. The decor was beautiful and I was greeted promptly and courteously. The bar area on the way to the main seating was quaint and seemed like the perfect spot.
Once seated in the indoor/ outdoor dining area, I noticed the contrast between the two spaces. The furniture in the main dining area (cream sofa style seating and white iron backed cushioned chairs was poorly maintained. The sofa was stained and torn and the chairs were discolored and stained. The white table clothes did not compliment the space and unfortunately, I had to move from my original table because of the crumb lined seat and hair on the tablecloth. After examining several other tables, I was led to one with sofa cushions less stained than the others but with tears and holes in the upholstery.
The avocado toast with smoked salmon and the strawberry mojito were a welcomed distraction from the disappointing decor. The toast was delicious and the mojito amazing. This may be a preppy spot for millennials but the 30 and over crowd may want to stick to the indoor seating area
Great experience and service. Highly recxomend
We had a table booked for Friday evening to enjoy happy hour. When we arrived it turned out that the restaurant was in fact booked out for a corporate party and we were unable to get our reserved table. The host was very kind and apologetic and reserved us an igloo for the following day but we were quite disappointed that we had to leave on Friday night.
Super nice atmosphere. Love the view that was going on. Josh was an awesome bartender; coming from another bartender, he really knew his stuff and flowed around the bar. Was in town for a couple days; and still in town for another day, so I might make another visit. Drinks were great and the truffle fries are to die for.
Sushi was amazing and service was great! Definitely a place to have drinks after work or with friends. Not sure about the club scene.
We unfortunately had a not so great experience for our first time at IO Godfrey. We had reservations for Christmas night -- when we arrived the menu offered was not the one on the website, the kitchen was closed, so they had us order from the downstairs restaurant's menu, Dolce. I was a bit disappointed because I chose the restaurant based on what I saw on the menu...but I quickly got over it. My guest and I ordered our appetizers and meals; 40+ minutes later -- no food had arrived, no waitress checking on us -- yet people who came in 30+ minutes after us had their appetizers and were eating. I was confused and again disappointed. We decided to leave and find another restaurant open on that Christmas night.
Went for thanksgiving buffet. Most of the dishes were excellent. The two carving station items, Turkey and prime rib, were moist, flavorful and well prepared. Similarly, most of the sides were very good. The only noticeable exception was the stuffing; mostly bread and bland. However, for downtown Chicago, the value was outstanding. We’d go back n
Perfect thanksgiving spot with equal parts casual and nice. Reservation was helpful and staff and accommodations were ready. Everyone left very satisfied!
A bargain at Thanksgiving timeThe food was delicious. Make sure you make a reservation They call to confirm and text Enjoyed the Brusselsprouts
Thanksgiving day buffet.Packed in very tightly-difficult to just get to buffet. The carving station had prime rib and Turkey both of which were hard to get a decent piece- Turkey too dry, beef too fat.
2 soups, tomato basil and butternut squash were good even if you had to eat out of a paper cup. Salads were very minimal. All the sides were mediocre at best. Dessert bar nothing special but they did keep those restocked well. All this for $39 plus $3 for coffee that was thought to be included.
Had a fantastic time, great food, and professional service. The view is nice, and parking nearby was very affordable. Will definitely go back soon.
Great Thanksgiving Buffet! The food was delicious, service was great, and the ambience was even better than expected.
Typical hotel restaurant. Overpriced, small servings, decent food but nothing special.
I had a blast at the Godfrey for my birthday!
6 of us were seated in couches which was fine. The table for eating was knee high and 24 x 24. I told the girl we were there to each brunch not just have drinks. She said that was all they had. We had reservations and there was no way 6 people could eat off such a small table. We ended up leaving. We told her we were going to leave because there was no room to put all our plates and drinks down. She just said OK.
