Involtini Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
We are regulars at Involtini and always enjoy the food and the friendly service . Gerry and Tammie are the owners and they make everyone feel welcome. We recommend Involtini to friends and we bring people visiting Calgary from out of town on business. We've organized business Christmas parties there and they've been successful both times.
We went to this restaurant for the first time on NYE. As such, the menu was a fixed 5 course dinner. The gnocchi appetizer was amazing as was the warm spinach salad! The Amuse Bouche was interesting as the flavours were unique but not very traditional. Beef tenderloin was slightly overlooked for our taste but still good. Desserts of chocolate cake and cassata were nice finishes. We were surprised by the flavours of all the courses as we were expecting a more traditional meal but we did enjoy this one. We will have to return to try the regular menu!
My wife and I ate here based on the good reviews. The service was incredibly slow. We were there for nearly 3 hours to have an appetizer dinner and dessert. The server was friendly enough but the slow service really killed that aspect. My beef was supposed to have blue cheese in it but really it was my blue cheese that had a little bit of beef. Blue cheese as an overpowering flavor and that's all I could taste in my entire meal. I couldn't even tell you what kind of meat was wrapped around the cheese because I couldn't taste it. My wife's dish was overly consumed by sauce to the point where you couldn't tell what was underneath it. She had the veal with lobster sauce and I had the beef involtini. The wine list was nice and that was probably the best part of our evening was sipping on that bottle of French wine. We ordered the baked brie which was absolutely drenched in a syrupy type sauce and it was all you could taste. It took away from all the flavor of the Brie. The tiramisu had some kind of a Berry sauce poured over it which really doesn't mix well with the coffee flavor that the tiramisu should have. My wife had some kind of wrap with ice cream in it and strawberries over top. It was so jammed with ice cream and was served so hot that the ice cream literally melted into a pool of Milky goo. At first glance the Ambiance in the restaurant is incredible and we were very excited. However the extremely slow service and the subpar food disappointed us and it was not worth the money. We had read that it was a Hidden Gem but perhaps it should stay hidden. Based on my first trip there I'm not sure I would spend my money to take a second trip there for dinner to see if maybe it was an off night.
My husband and I had another lovely meal at Involtini. I had the beef tenderloin and he had the salmon Involtini. Both meals were amazing. Service was a little slow as they were very busy but we didn’t mind as we were relaxed and enjoying our time to chat over drinks.
When the door from the waiting area to the restaurant opens, you walk into a comfortable space for dining and wine. Windows are heavily drapedand there is nothing of the oirside coming in. Is just yours and about 10 other tables. The specialty here is the scalopini, either veal, beef or pork. You have to try it. Mushroom risotto and Lamb shank are also very good.
We go to this restaurant often and always enjoy the food. More often than not, we eat from the light (seniors) menu, which includes a soup or salad plus main course. Favourite is the salmon with roasted potatoes and fresh vegetables! We often take business people from in town and out of town and they are always complimentary.
This was our second trip to Involtini's in the past year. The previous meal had been a really good food at a decent price with good service and also close to home so we thought we would give it another try with a family member from out of town.
This time however the service was substandard right from the start of the night. The server was erratic in his attention to our table of three. The restaurant was more than half empty but there was a table of 10 that took all of his attention.
Our appetizers took about 20 minutes to arrive which seemed fine with the pleasant conversation around the table but then it took another 50 minutes for our entrees to arrive and when they did, one of the entrees was completely wrong. The waiter seemed to think that since it took so long to come out that we should just accept the error and eat the wrong meal. When we refused and sent the meal back, it took another 20 minutes to get the right meal. The server never really apologized and offered a complimentary glass of house wine while our host ate his meal. Our meals having been eaten and cleared already.
In the end, the food was good but the service so bad that we don't think we would risk a meal there again. Unfortunate that a local restaurant would lose a chance to win regular business with service like this.
I ordered the special which was snapper with crab and a cream source. It was flavorless served with very cold vegetables that should have been hot.
They gave my father the wrong item and after saying so.ething 2 times offered to take it back.
This restaurant was definitely not worth the price and the service was average.
