Insignia Prime Steak & Sushi Ratings and Reviews
We had fantastic meal with the family. For appetizers were had the bacon slab and calamari salad which were excellent. Also had a delicious fresh pasta with burrata cheese and white truffles that was a special app that night. For entrees, my wife and I split the Australian Waygu 16 oz rib eye and my two sons did the same. Our server, Glen, really sold us on it. And he was spot on. It was without a doubt one of the best steaks any of us we've ever had. This was melt in your mouth tender, and just a ridiculous amount of flavor. I would recommend this over a filet every time. A pricy cut for sure, but with appetizers and sides, two people can split it and be completely satisfied as all of us were. And my 17 and 14 year old sons can eat. Speaking of which, we had truffle mac and cheese and homemade fries on the side. Great choices. The fries were an odd texture, almost chewy, though completely addictive where you just kept going back for more. Dessert finished things off with a couple of praline stuffed warm chocolate chip cookies wit vanilla ice cream. Very good. Also had some coffee which was top notch. Also, kudos to the wine by the glass list. While many on the list were restaurant grade ones that you've never heard of, they had a "select" list which included easily recognized names including Jordan, Justin and Opus One. Plus a choice of 3 oz or 6 oz pours. Well done!
As always Insignia did not disappoint. From the beginning our very pleasant server Glenn made us feel very comfortable and welcome. The Rocky sushi roll was where we started and both my wife and I found it incredible. We each ordered a Rib Eye mine medium rare and hers medium. Both were charred to perfection with a melt in your mouth texture. We finished pur meal woth the housemate cinnamon donuts that were drizzled with raspberry sauce and white chocolate. Anyone who is looking for an incredible dining experience should make Insignia a must.
My girlfriend and I went there on Valentine's Day. I felt that since we didn't have a big order the waiter did not want to pay attention to us. He didn't even come back to check on us when we got our food and if we need anything else. We basically had to track him down to get our check.
The wait was concerning. We made reservations and still had to wait sometime to be seated. The wait staff service was great the service at reservations was long and standing room only. Food was excellent. Better to come on a non holiday if you don't want a long wait.
It was Valentines Day
The room was totally overcrowded, with no room to move ... table was so uncomfortable , couldn’t sit close because of the legs and the noise level was so bad I couldn’t hear my boyfriend across our table.
The service was terrible, asked for the bread to be toasted and his reply was the line is too long. The sushi was ordered wth brown rice but came out with white rice. They took my knife away after our Caesar salad (which was ordered light on the dressing but was served swimming in dressing, )and never replace the knife. I had to get up and take one from another table because the wait staff never returned . The shrimp stuffed with crabmeat tasted raw.. Every restaurant I’ve eaten at on Valentines Day always gives the lady a rose... for the prices you charge you should be ashamed . No class!
My husband took me to Insignia for Valentines Day this year. He had been with his fire department group and just raved about it. And now I see what all the fuss was about!! All I can say is WOW! From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly attentive, knowledgeable of the menu and specials, and so friendly. Then the food started to arrive at our table...my oh my. From the giant, fresh, creative sushi rolls to the incredibly delicious grilled octopus appetizer. Everything was spectacular. For dinner, I opted to go big with the surf and turf. And once again, they did not disappoint! The lobster tail was HUGE and perfectly cooked alongside a beautifully cooked filet. We also got a few sides to share. I strongly recommend the truffle Mac n cheese, the grilled artichokes and the hash browns. Those are a must!! We will definitely be repeat customers.
Just OK and definitely not worth the price. I've been to a good number of great steakhouses but unfortunately, I can't count this as one of them.
Food - On my most recent visit we shared an interesting burrata appetizer with black truffle, pretty good. My wife had the sea bass which was very good, but my 30 oz Ribeye was pretty disappointing. It was very thick so most of my medium rare steak was completely uncooked, but more importantly I didn't get any of that great crusty exterior that great steakhouses do so well. It was pretty much devoid of flavor. Grilled artichoke side was vinegared and charred in a good way.
Servers were pleasant however the timing was really bad. We ate our appetizer in no more than 5 minutes...probably more like three. After putting my final fork down I looked up and our main courses had arrived. No time to order wine, no time....it was just upon us.
The place is very nice, but it somehow just doesnt feel like it's a great place.
What really rubbed me the wrong way though, is that we went on a Tuesday night. The website has a big thing about the $59 Tuesday night special. Unfortunately, we did not get any special menu, and neither of the two servers mentioned the Tuesday night special. That told me a lot about the place.
Overall I found the place to be over priced and over rated.
Oysters the size of nickles, one of which was of very poor quality and should have been tossed by the chef. Cold dry stuffing on the stuffed shrimp.
Skirt steak was average and portion was slight as compared to many restaurants of lesser grandeur.
Extremely irritating to have my wife and I called "Ladies and Gentlemen" by the junior waiter on several occasions during the service.
Desserts were exceptionally good.
This years, early Valentines Day dinner was at Insignia. Just me and my valentine on a Saturday night. If you haven't been to Insignia, it is a traditional steakhouse, part of the Scotto restaurant family. The restaurant is huge and a nice addition to the Smithtown area. Open floor plan, huge bar area, floor to ceiling wine cellar. My husband has remarked more then once that it reminds him of a Las Vegas restaurant. It is beautiful.
Started off with some drinks. Mostly California wines by the glass, which are not my favorite. There has been one white French Sancerre on the menu for awhile. This is generally one of my favorites, but this particular one has more fruit tones, hoping next time this is updated with a new French white wine. We had the Empress signature roll, which was excellent. Couldn't wait to have the Filet Mignon, which was presented well done instead of medium. Glen our waiter was great, the Filet was replaced by a perfect medium one which was delicious. My husband had the veal chop with was good, and the mushrooms for a side were excellent.
Always look forward to dining at Insignia, but the best bet is the Sunday special dinner. You can't beat it.
We’ve been here several times but this last visit was the worst one to date. The service was extremely slow today. While the waitress and waiter were nice they were very slow. From the time we sat down it was subpar. We waited very long to be greeted, ordering a bottle of wine, actually getting the wine, ordering out food and then actually getting our food. And add that one of our steaks was undercooked. The waitress made up for it by giving us a free round of drinks though. Normally we always have a great time here , so I will chalk this up as a bad night for the Insignia staff.
6pm reservation. Got there a little early. Upon arrival we noticed parking was valet parking only. I mention this because when we left there was a long line and the line crawled at a snail's pace. I wouldn't be surprised if it took over 45 minutes just waiting for someone to take your vehicle.
Around 5:45 on a Friday night and we were the first table seated adjacent to the outdoor fireplace. A few people at the bar. Obviously this place catered to a later crowd, which was evident just before we left.
We ordered their special: 16oz Wagyu Ribeye. $95 per steak x 2. We both ordered it medium rare. We shared a side dish of mashed potatoes because the waiter assured us it would be more than adequate. Both steaks arrived and looked appetizing until we started eating. The very first thing we both noticed was how salty the food was. Now, I happen to love salt. However, this was so over salted it was overpowering. The next thing we noticed was how overcooked both steaks were. At first I ate a few pieces, hoping the rareness would appear closer to the middle. No, they were well done. We said something to the waiter and he agreed it was way overcooked and took both steaks and potatoes back to be replaced. The second steaks were cooked internally fairly properly but both were still REALLY salty. We didn't complain this time and just finished what we could and took the rest home to make sandwiches.
We got the bill. $320 after the tip for 2 steaks, 1 order of mashed potatoes, and 3 glasses of wine. They didn't comp for the steak blunder. A round of drinks would have given this review another star for service. The servers we nice, however.
We won't be returning to this establishment. Way overpriced, food underwhelming, ridiculous wait for valet parking.
I went there for several times with my friends for birthday and also with my parents. It was a really nice place with such aura inside the restaurant. Good for celebrations and also meeting friends. I love it. Moreover the coconut sushi is really good for appetizer and definatly choose steak for your meal, each steak is delicious. I love it
We were greeted warmly and shown to our booth in the bar area which we requested.
We started with cocktails which were made perfectly. The by the glass wine list has something for everyone even the person with the discerning taste. Appetizers were served consisting of delicious, fresh crab meat which we asked for honey mustard to dip - our request served without question. Shared a salad and porterhouse for two and grilled artichoke. The porterhouse was juicy and tasty. The grilled artichokes are excellent. Highly recommend.
Steady customer for all hoiliays and special occasions, bought 1200$ in gift cards in dec , got 4- 50.00 compementary gift cards . Were supposed to be like cash, when i purchased them i confirmed there were no strings attached. . Very embarrasing when trying to use them as cash. From 1st time around at christmas, to last time lst week . Have 2 left , cannot use them together, must use total of card. expires march 18th . If you read the small print you can find more reasons why i will not go back .
The room is great, Dorothy is great, food is very good , just felt ripped off.
PS, do not expect your Booth table to have a Table cloth , the regular cloths do not fit???
Loud & noisy. Very good food & wait staff, but managerial and hostess staff need training. We had to ASK if we could check our coats and ASK if someone could take our drink orders in the bar area. Additionally, the poor overworked chefs couldn't fry oysters; fresh oysters were available but when one person in our party asked for fried oysters as an appetizer, the manager told us the kitchen were too busy to cater to special orders! Sad & scary commentary for a restaurant that like to think of itself as a cut above the rest!
