This was my second time at Inovasi, and boy, was I disappointed. My husband and I went for date night, who’s as most parents know is hard to come by. The meal stated off well enough, but soon after our cocktails were served, our server dumped an entire glass of water on my lap. Other than a few napkins from the server, there was no assistance from other staff members. I sat the entire rest of my meal with my left side soaked. Fair enough, I assumed they’d “take care” of us later with a comped meal or drink. My cauliflower risotto, which we waited close to 45 mins AFTER appetizers, was cold, unseasoned, and cheeseless. Simply gross. My husband’s meal of duck was fine, although uninspired.
When the check came, I was shocked that there was nothing comped on the bill for my mishap with the water. No further apologies, for either the dumped water or the lateness of the meal. Terrible customer service.
And while it wasn’t the restaurant’s fault, we sat right next to the most obnoxious group of four people. Using derogatory homophobic terms, etc.
I will NEVER go back. Take your hard earned dollars and precious time elsewhere.
Date with my husband. Great food, nice environment and wonderful time
Excellent, fun and professional service from Ryan. Food lovely - whitefish and pork ribs - wonderful. Rustic bread, and butter with sea salt - yum!
4 course Tasting menu for 2 was great. Wine pairing was supurb.
Wonderful al fresco dinner -- superior service, food, and atmosphere.
I ordered the pike. It was dry, the side was dry and the little sauce had no flavor.
Great dinner. Food & service was superb.
We had a wonderful dinner. It was our first time and we can't wait to go back. The appetizers, imported burreta, wonderful pestos and salads and the bread is excellent. We had duck and pork main courses. All were well thought out and delicious. Their wine list gives lots of choices and the prices are right. A real find.
our of us had lunch the other day..lovely enough to be outside...each person chose the soup and salad/sandwich combo.....each thought her food was delicious!
Inovasi is a true hidden gem.
White wine was lukewarm at best and waiter was like”all our whites are that temperature. I can bring an ice bucket”. Then when we went to order he said they were out of 2 of 5 dinner entree dishes! Also it took forever to get the wine and cocktails
The burrata, which was imported from Italy, was amazing. I would question how a restaurant who goes to the trouble of importing burrata from Italy can miss on other entries. The lack of sauces was a concern. The Calamari was served without any dipping sauce. The sushi roll served without any dipping sauce, such as soy. The Walleye, what there was a it, again served without any lemon butter sauce. Perhaps this restaurant doesn't believe in saucing their foods? The Walleye was a 4 oz portion which should have been on the appetizer menu or should have been disclosed on the menu as being a very small portion. It was 4 bites! Service was great and the outdoor ambiance was very nice but, the dishes served need a little tender loving care to put them over the top.
Love inovasi and never get tired of going there. Staff is knowledgeable, professional and friendly.
We greatly appreciated the complimentary toasts -- very nice touch for a first visit. Service was exceptional. Liked the pasta, salmon, vegetable and bread. Not a fan of the fried calamari dish. Thought the meal was expensive for the offerings.
Overall a positive dining experience. Modest variety in their menu - would prefer some additional offerings with their small plates.
We were extremely disappointed that the manager would not open the second bottle of wine we brought. We were a table of 6. Everyone at the table ordered cocktails (except me) and several people ordered two cocktails. We ordered appetizers and dinner. We wanted dessert with our second bottle of wine. We were told by the manager your policy had changed and they would not open our second bottle. We paid our bill and walked across the street and ordered dessert, drank the bottle of wine that we brought, and ordered another bottle of wine from the restaurant. Your restaurant was not full at the time. I have been to your restaurant many times and enjoy your food. I have been with groups before and brought more than one bottle of wine to open. This “change in policy” is very disappointing and will impact our decision to dine here in the future. Additionally, it was disappointing that the manager was not accommodating regarding your change in policy. Clearly we were unaware of your change in policy. She could have offered to open the wine and explain that they would not do it again due to the policy change.
We were a group of 7. Two of us were drinking ice tea. The waiter came to refill our glasses and the pitcher was beer. Very strange. I was on a restricted diet. I apologized but said I just wanted a large bowl of mixed greens. The closes salad in the menu had nuts and cheese for $11. My large bowl of mixed greens was about 1c of wilted room temp lettuce. My charge was $14!!! Since we were with a group I kept my mouth shut but am now happy to vent in a review. Skip this place. You can do better.
Food was great. The happy hour specials provided excellent flavor and allowed us to try a few different things on the menu.
Great outside seating. Disappointed they got rid of happy hour as well as some changes to the menu. Bring back the grilled Romain salad and the old poke bowl. No need to make cha fed to good things. We all had fish, which was was fresh but lacked flavor. Ice cream, was delicious.
Stopped by for Happy Hour and had some of the best burgers in the area (along with some appetizers and drinks)!
Excellent server and outstanding food!
I'm considered the foodie in my group so during my recent business trip I booked a dinner reservation at Inovasi. The restaurant is located in a super cute Lake Bluff town square that looks like it should be in a Hallmark movie. We did the tasting menu which was excellent & highly recommended. The Chef chooses what is served that night on the tasting menu so each course in a 4 course menu was a wonderful surprise, creative & a true culinary labor of love. Go in with an open mind & you will be rewarded with a fantastic meal using locally sourced ingredients & top of the line imported ingredients. The wait staff was truly attentive to refilling our drinks & giving great detailed descriptions of the food preparation so it was fun to see what the next course will be. My other 2 work teammates who joined me for dinner were so impressed with the meal that the next day they had bragging rights to the poor souls that decided to eat in the Hotel or another restaurant. This restaurant is now on the radar for my co-workers as a must eat place while in the Lake Forest area!
Great food and service. Perfect place for any occasion! Would highly recommend
Inovasi is located at a great spot for outdoor summer dining. The food is interesting and well-prepared. I had the Nashville Shrimp sandwich. I'm not a sandwich person, but this was great -- good mix of bread and filling, and interesting flavors.
Our server, Juan Carlos, was extremely attentive and the food, especially the duck, was superb!
Creativity simply did not bring some choices into a unified whole. For example, rigatoni with truffled grilled peaches....and sauteed translucent onions with mascarpone...reads well on paper, but just did not come together. Another choice, lamb riblets with fingerlings...lamb was much too fatty, balsamic reduction was excellent, but you cannot make a meal. The best of the lot was the ala carte bread and butter. When that is the best I can say about dinner, there is not much else to say...very surprised...would have expected something better from Chef des Rosiers
I am so sorry to hear of your disappointment with us, and that our dishes did not meet your expectations. We show great respect to local farmers and ranchers and showcase their efforts in flavorful and inventive border-crossing cuisine. We wished we had the opportunity to address any issues while you were dining with us & we understand that not everyone understands our approach to cuisine We are always looking for ways to improve, but sometimes not every restaurant is for every guest.
Absolutely fantastic dinner! Lovely atmosphere. Lucky to be there just after they had a wine tasting to enjoy a high end Chardonnay - will definitely be back!
Food was excellent and the server was outstanding.
We will go again and bring friends.
Service was WAY TOO RUSHED. It was a Sat nite and we were in and out in an hour....much too fast.
Having dined at Inovasi from the beginning, the ten year trip-down-memory-lane menu was a delight. The Jackson Pollock Pike, the beet salad and the Scarborough Fair ice cream took us back to so many wonderful dinners that we have enjoyed here.
Lisa and Juan are excellent! We love eating at Inovasi.
It was delicious! The whole experience was delightful!
We typically love Inovasi, but I guess we popped in too early on a Friday night. We ended up being there for their Happy Hour and had a limited menu compared to what we normally experience. Perhaps also, the restaurant's 10th anniversary factored into the equation. The other items listed on our menu were tasting menu items may have been a part of that celebration.
My wife and I both enjoyed our selections (Walleye and Tri Tip Steak), and the service, as always, was very good. It's just that I didn't care for the bulk of the menu items on the combined Happy Hour/Tasting Menu. I like the option of ordering sushi ala-carte, which has always been possible with the regular dinner menu. In fairness, I didn't ask if it would be possible last Friday.
If you've never been to Inovasi, come and give the restaurant a try. The menu is eclectic but the alfresco dining is a huge attraction, weather permitting. Unlike other locations in and around Lake Bluff and Lake Forest, the outdoor vibe is serene. You're not sitting on a busy street or across from the railroad tracks. Especially nice is lunch outside. You have the option of sitting in the shade of the building, which for me is a huge benefit.
We had the tasting menu with beverage pairing. The food was great, service was excellent. Will definitely go back!
It was heir 10 yr anniversary so they brought back the most popular dishes over 10 yr period, found it very difficult to find something I wanted to eat. Menue very limited. Also extremely noisy could not hear our friends sitting at same table. The food arrived cold, the burger was undercooked when I asked for medium. Server not very attentive. Couldn't wait to leave very uncomfortable experience won't be going back.
We were there to celebrate my birthday. The food was outstanding as usual, but our server was really out of character for Inovasi. Totally blasé attitude, truly disappointing.
Excellent and creative food offerings and so many gluten free options! Fabulous service.
Small portions of the Rabbit & Cod. Burgers are good. Over priced..... Good for a special occasion, but would not dine there on a regular basis (sorry....).
I understand the need for change after 10 years but I miss the old menu. Cocktail was perfect, so I was keeping an open mind while waiting for the meal. Salad came with main meal, server was flat and unenthusiastic. I went there for Inovasi food, expressed my disappointment that something I loved before wasn’t on the menu anymore, got a curt “no,” tried something else and it was all just fine but I don’t need to return if old menu items don’t.
Had simple lunch and both of us had the lamb rib which was excellent. Crispy on the outside served with a succulent Orange savory sauce over mixed colored potatoes. Was really enjoyable.
