Indian
This elegantly attired restaurant, named after one of the oldest civilizations in the world, offers a menu that features many classic dishes from the Indian subcontinent like an assortment of kebabs, curries and biryanisslow cooked rice dishes which feature vegetables or meat and many aromatic spices. However, the menu at Indus Valley / Manhattan Valley also has some unusual offerings like chicken chat and chicken samosas, which do not normally feature on menus of Indian restaurants. Also, instead of the weekend buffet which is considered to be de rigueur at an Indian eatery, Indus Valley / Manhattan Valley offers a 'lunch special' which can be had in various permutations and combinations at different prices.

I met a friend for lunch and we each had a delicious meal and enjoyed great conversation. Our server was very attentive.

Ambience was good. The starters were tasty but not the chicken kadai and chicken kali mirch. Chicken kadai almost tasted like an Indian version of chicken manchurian and chicken kali mirch had so much whole mustards in it that spoilt the whole taste of the curry. Desserts were tasty and nice. The waiter neither introduced himself nor was he courteous. Felt like he was doing a favor taking our order. Heard him behave same way with people on other tables.

this was our second time here and again we enjoyed it very much. brought friends with us as we did last time with other friends and they all liked it as well. very attentive, professional staff, extensive menu with many choices and good wine by the glass list. we will return and perhaps with new people yet again.

Maybe the best Indian restaurant in New York these days. Great service, feels family style, and wonderful on beyonce's. Utterly un-hip.

Good service and yummy food. We were able to order a vegetable curry off the menu which was nice.

They sent out an extra vegetable appetiser by accident instead of the curry but they gave it to us anyway and had the vegetable curry come out soon after. That’s a bonus and great hospitality.

It was a mainly enjoyable evening. The service was great, and most of the dishes were very tasty. My only complaint relates to the lamb vindoloo, or rather to the lamb itself, because the vindoloo sauce was also excellent. Because I enjoy lamb when I dine out, I often order it, and I noticed that in this restaurant quality of the lamb time and again not the best. Maybe the individual who does the purchasing should pay more attention to this

This used to be a great Indian place in the neighborhood - what happened?! Ordered rosemary naan, raita, sea bass, and mulligatawny soup — all dependable basics in the past — and only the naan was decent. Raita was soupy and sweet, thinned with some questionable substance. Sea bass was possibly a cheaper fish, over slathered with greasy paste of something salty (the vegetables and he lemon wedge on the side looked pathetically wilted and lifeless), the mulligatawny soup was mostly salty. UGH!
The waitstaff gives off a less than friendly vibe, could not explain what what a certain drink was composed from. Should have taken a hint from the fact that there were only two other people besides us in the restaurant, although apparently they are quite busy with takeout and delivery orders.
Will not return.

All good but most dishes (lentils, chicken dishes, curries) are now far “hotter” as in more highly seasoned with green chilies than in the past at Indus Valley. . A problem for its older clientele. Probably a new chef. I wish people could assume lower level (very mild) hotness and then request IF they want it hotter.

lOVELY INDIAN FOOD: ALLOW THE WAITER TO CHOOSE A VARIETY, AND YOU WILL BE VERY HAPPY. ONE OF THE FEW PLACES ON THE UPPER WEST SIDE WHERE YOU CAN TALK AND ACTUALLY HEAR EACH OTHER.

food was delicious. service was attentive and friendly. when we arrived we were concerned because there were mostly empty tables...restaurant did not fill up, but there were a number of other diners and we could see the delivery orders going out in a constant stream, so clearly a popular place.

Even though the name changes, the great Indian cuisine remains the same....excellent. I had dinner with a friend on a Friday night at 5:30, and at first we were alone in the restaurant, and then it filled up with several parties and groups, including one with small children. Everyone seemed to have a good time. I had Malai Kafta, and my friend had a chicken curry dish, with vegetable samosa and shrimp as appetizers. Also had yummy potato-stuffed bread...delicious. We thought we were too full for dessert, but somehow we managed to scarf up the rice pudding they brought us as a little "extra". Love this place.

It was a special occasion / Date night. It was a movie theme night. Watched "Victoria & Abdul". Since it had an Indian theme - we went to Indus Valley.

The food is always good. But this time it was exceptional. The service is always friendly

I had asked for a window seat and we got it .

We will definitely go back. It's a neighbourhood gem

The food was superb, and the mulligatawny soup was especially delicious. The place, however, was, all three of us agreed, overheated. We asked for air-conditioning, and they turned it on but only briefly. The same thing happened when we requested it a second time on that humid summer evening.

Very good weekend buffet but have reservations about continued striking employees outside location due to their unfair treatment of workers. Felt guilt eating there , strikers weren't present on Sunday afternoon otherwise I'd have honored striking employees.

The food, service, and ambiance were very good. However, we dined on a Wednesday evening and discovered that former employees are picketing the restaurant. The information flier we received explained that these people had been cheated by the owner, who changed the name of the restaurant from Indus Valley to avoid payments (we had wondered about the name change). We will not dine at the restaurant again as long as there is an ongoing labor dispute

Fresh, delicious food. Not a super modern ambiance, but for an "everyday" kind of place, not at all necessary--in fact, rather refreshing not to be in a restaurant that is trying really hard to be "hip"...

We had a lovely dinner at Manhattan Valley (FKA Indus Valley). The food was excellent, the service friendly and efficient, and the ginger pepper martini was great. I like to order extra spicy and here the level was kicked up while still preserving the balance of the dish's flavor. I recommend this restaurant highly.

The food here is always delicious and we come very often as it is in our neighborhood. While the portions don't look large, they really are bigger than you think. I'm usually stuffed when I leave! Favorites include Lamb Sagwalla, Malai Tikka Lasooni and Chicken Tikka Masala. Their mulligatawny soup is amazing as well....also very filling as they give you an ample bowlful. I think this is the best Indian restaurant on the upper west side!
