are you kidding me?? open table cancelled my reservation, left message at indigo, and no answer and no info until one day before with answering machine saying restaurant closed and "sorry for the inconvenience." you really need a better web master ! ! ! !
Imagine our surprise when we arrived to the restaurant at 6:30 to find it dark and locked up. Deserted. As in closed without warning. Too bad. We enjoyed this place and had dined there many times over the years. If there was confusion about a vacation or some other issue we weren't told about, it won't matter.
We were warned by Open Table at Indigo had canceled it's subscription and that Open Table couldn't guarantee our reservation. I phoned Indigo and left a message requesting a phone call back. When we got to the restaurant, it was obvious that it had recently closed -- there was still linen and tableware on the tables -- but no sign on the door. I was impressed that Indigo had the presence of mind to cancel it's Open Table subscription and thus save itself money. I was much less impressed that the message from OpenTable couldn't explain that the restaurant has closed and I couldn't believe that Indigo couldn't change it's outgoing phone message to reflect that fact. Or, to have the decency to return my phone call.
Indigo is sometimes a forgotten treasure but each time I go I wonder why I don't go more often. The food is sublime especially the Salmon and sole. And they divided our shared meal without us having to ask. The decor includes a plaster cast the entire length of the room that is beautiful!
A fine place to dine before the theater/symphony/opera/ballet. Nothing special, but nothing objectionable either.
Excellent food andQuick service in theatre district
I took my friend here for her birthday. Food was delicious. Tomato soup, pork loin, and blueberry almond dessert were all so delicious. We cleaned out our plates! Waitstaff were accommodating and friendly. They checked up on us at good intervals to make sure we were good. The restaurant was busy when we got in at 7pm, but were seated right away. I would recommend Indigo to friends who are looking for good food in the area.
Struggled with service. Pre theater rush seemed under staffed and overstressed. food was good once it arrived. made it to the theater on time.
Great service
Great location and wonderful foods. Close to the Opera House and Symphony with parking close by. Walking to and from events was easy and our time dining was enjoyable.
The service was poor. Wait person was unfamiliar with the restaurant , unqualified and over extended. And was wearing stained clothes. The restaurant is in shabby condition. At the very least they could wash the front windows.
Food was good, though prices are on the high end for what you get.
Excellent food, atmosphere and service. We would definitely recommend Indigo to symphony attenders and anyone out for a fun evening!
We chose this one because it's only a few blocks from the theaters in the civic center. We did the price fix dinner and enjoyed all of the offerings. We had the salmon and the chicken and liked them both. The chicken had a rather odd sauce but it was around the outside of the dish and not over the chicken which was otherwise tasty and didn't need it anyway. Prices were pretty reasonable for an upscale SF place. We thought the service as attentive and kept things moving without feeling rushed. We'd go back if we needed a meal before a concert.
We have been dining at Indigo for years. The decor is great and it's not too noisy for conversation. Nice ambiance. The food is excellent, though we almost always have the salmon with the wonderful coconut/curry sauce. Only complaint: the portions could be a bit larger.
If Indigo were not convenient to the Opera and Symphony I don't think it could survive.
We got poor, inattentive service. My chicken was very mediocre. They were inflexible in ordering. The wine was overpriced. I was really disappointed and it was a pricey dinner.
We left after no table service for 20 min they did not have enough help
Not enough help
Cook played host
2 servers played bartenders
There were no busboys
Second visit...(Hard to judge on a single visit.) Good high quality dinner/bar.
First visit, chicken dinner a 'bit' overdone, slightly dry on edges. Second visit Seared Pork, 'excellent', juicy through-out even cooked 'medium'.
Partner ordered beef steak both time, because the wine sauce was 'superb'. However, this second visit "...the sauce didn't taste the same..." steak was (again) excellently prepared. Wonder if there is some 'quality' control issues.
Overall, enjoyable, pleasant and above average food. Relative quite, but were there both times on non-performance evenings, said to be very busy with performances. (Close to Opera, and performance theaters.) However, neither visit during busy periods, and could over-hear conversations of neighboring tables... Didn't want or choose to 'eves-drop' yet, unavoidable if restaurant is 'quite', and don't know situation, (didn't experience) if busy....
Would I recommend to friends?..., I guess it would depend on who I was talking to. Some places I recommend to any/all my friends. I very well might 'reserve' recommending Indigo, depending on who I know I was talking to and their own personal 'preferences'.
We enjoyed the fixed price and vegetarian fixed price options and wine recoomendations served in time to get to the symphony lecture at 7 pm.
Our dinner was Delicious - but the service SUCKED, we were comped a couple of drinks (party of 6), but was not happy with our server, he was not accommodating at all. We have eaten here several times, very disappointed this time.
Exceptional service to a table with a late guest. Each dish was excellent, from vegetarian to steak.
My wife and I chose Indigo for a pre-concert dinner, as we have done previously, for its convenient location, ambience and food. The service is always excellent. We expect to return next symphony season.
For the second time, the restaurant was short staffed. The one waiter did his best to meet everyone's needs, but he was pretty frazzled. Dinners were very good.
Long a favorite, this restaurant seems to be under new management, not a good thing. Menu more limited, food saltier, portions smaller than before. Prices seemed too high for lower quality food. Service was disorganized, although it was clear they were trying hard. From my table I looked directly into a yellow-sh not so clean kitchen that was not made to be looked at. Will not return.
Indigo never fails to deliver, good food, good service, pleasant interior, close to ballet, symphony, and opera...
I love this restaurant for pre ballet/symphony. The soup is great ( though I wish they would always have the butternut squash soup) and combined with the ahi tartare is perfect before going to an event. Service has always been prompt and friendly. It hasn't disappointed after many visits.
Decent menu - great soup and dessert course. The chicken chardony reduction was too alcoholic and the polenta too sweet.
Menu has changed and no longer features prix- fixe dinners. Surprised with $20 corkage after many years of going to Indigo offering free corkage for the first bottle. The quality of the food seem to be much improved however.
Nice dinner/meal pre-ballet and close to the SF War Memorial Opera House. I had the petrale sole special which was excellent and my friend had the beef tenderloin which was prepared very well (medium rare) as requested and very tasty. Flourless chocolate cake for dessert was yummy. Good cocktails and wine! Good place for conversation- not noisy.
We made our reservation several weeks in advance, and were there on a Sunday night at 5 pm. We later found out that when there isn't an opera or ballet on a Sunday, they are rarely open, yet they were gracious, attentive, and made us feel really welcome. I had made the reservation based on a picture of a filet mignon, but the salmon on a bed of Thai curry and potatoes sounded too good to pass up -- and it was! Delicious! I would definitely recommend Indigo.
In general our meals were pretty good. The salmon was underdone. Waiter had to ask for instructions on making the simplest of mixed drinks - all of which were subpar.
Totally a PLEASANT SURPRISE!!!
Plan to return SOON!~
Come early as this place is close to Opera ad Symphony and gets packed close to performance times. Service can be slow sometimes so be sure to let server know you have a performance to get to (they usually ask). Standard menu usually better than the specials.
Always a pleasant place to dine, attentive service, nice portions, comfortable.
I have had the salmon with curry sauce many times before which is always delicious , disappointed this time that the salmon pc was SO small 😞
Other 3 enjoyed their meals , pork, sole and pasta 😊
I remember little about this place, having been there only a few days ago, other than it being freezing cold. The waiter kept saying that he would close the front door and turn off the overhead fans but never did. The food was cold which wasn't surprising considering the temperature. All diners had coats on while eating so it was not just me. It was all very unimpressive and I would not recommend it to anyone.
Great place to go before a performance at the Civic Center. Good, innovative cuisine without being too precious. Friendly, efficient service.
Very good ambiance, great food. Wait staff seemed too small and we had to wait for dessert and coffe and the bill. But overall, would return.
