India's - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
My wife loves Indian food and we were new to the area, so found this spot for our Anniversary Dinner and it was GREAT! Obvious local clientele that knew the staff and were all pleased with the food and service. My wife had Lamb Saag and I enjoyed the Salmon from the Tandoori grill. Needless to say, we'll be back!!
My wife and I went on a theater date at Maryland Hall and decided to eat at India's before. Great choice. Personal service by the owner/manager, food was good and served hot and in a timely manner after each prior course. Had not been there in several years. We will be back soon.
Despite the restaurant being nearly empty when we arrived early (5:15pm), we waited over 45 minutes for our entrees. The proprietor sat down next to a table near us and proceeded to discuss spices at length, completely ignoring us. When we went to leave, the printer for their credit card machine ran out of paper and it took 15 minutes for them to fix it and print our bill. On top of all of that, the food quality was mediocre. We will not be going back.
We usually get together with another couple for a pre-concert meal here. The husband of the other couple has dietary restrictions that an Indian diet meets. And we enjoy the dishes here, which we usually share. The restaurant does its best to meet their patrons' spice level. The service is always friendly. Unfortunately on this visit a child was in the next booth who kept kicking the back of the seat shared with our booth. We've never had a problem before and probably won't in the future.
Food, service and restaurant décor was good! I would have given this restaurant "very good" over all if the owner/manager would not have asked for us to pay for the meal in cash at the end. He first said that his machine was broken, but then said if we didn't have the cash then he would take the credit card. Coming up with 187.00 for four dinners plus tip wasn't easy since none of us ever really carry cash anymore. We were all empting out our wallets to come up with his request. This was a little off putting and unexpected. If he does this with other customers then that would explain why he only had at most 8 tables filled during peak dinner time on a Saturday night in Annapolis. At least we know in the future that this restaurant prefers cash.
We always enjoy returning to this Annapolis gem. India's serves well-prepared Indian food that appeals to a range of palates from very hot to moderately spicy to mild - something for everyone. The complimentary papadum and condiments are nice to munch w/ a cocktail, beer or wine. The dal (lentil) soup is especially tasty; also the samosa appetizer. Three of us shared chicken tikka masala, braised lamb in a traditional spinach sauce, and a vegetarian dish of chick peas, tomatoes & onions -- all equally tasty and accompanied by a large platter of basmati rice. A complimentary American-style rounded out our meal. We especially like the fact that India's is a quiet venue that makes you feel transported as soon as you enter. Long-time owner Mr. Kumar is a pleasure to chat with and the service is always excellent!
A wonderful restaurant with great food and outstanding service. Owner very welcoming, greeting every guest. Makes one feel so comfortable. Will prepare food according to individual tastes and will even provide items not listed on the menu. Highly recommend.
This was not a great night at India's. We were the only customers during the large proportion of the meeting; one other table was occupied briefly before the customers left.
I am not sure that all items on the menu were available.we were pretty strongly steered to the the front page of the menu.
The service was absolutely awesome. I couldn't actually eat my entree because it was way too spicy, but that was my fault. The servers/owners warned me that the dish was very spicy, but said they could tone it down. I decided to keep it as is because I eat really spicy foods, but began sweating after bite three (my boyfriend at it for lunch the next day and said it was delicious). The server also brought out a free salad for the table and another, unsolicited entree for the child at our table. The server thought she wouldn't like the meal we ordered for her, so they did it as a precaution. To their surprise, she loved her dish. There were six of total and no complaints!
This is the best Indian restaurant in the Annapolis area, and would compare or exceed all but one or two in the DC area. The décor is elegant but the crowd was fairly casually dressed. All the standard dishes you would expect are on the menu, but they are executed very carefully. Portions are generous and the prices are quite reasonable. Parking is available in a public garage just around the corner and seems to be adequate, but we'll see as this end of West Street continues to develop.
Great food. We have enjoyed dinner at India's but this time we came for lunch. They have a buffet weekly and the variety gave us a chance to try other items we hadn't before. We enjoyed it so much we will be back later this week. Ask the maitre d' for suggestions. He is excellent in making selections.
This long time local restaurant is a delight to visit to dine inside or at the modest outdoor seating. The owner is welcoming and friendly. He makes our visit feel valued and appreciated. The aroma upon entrance sets the mood for the appetite. The linen table cloths and napkins, decor, quiet ambiance and the Eastern Indian music playing softly in the background make this restaurant feel posh and upscale while allowing diners to enjoy conversation and the food without the undesirable cacophony experienced in other restaurants. Vegetarian/vegan options available. Validated garage and street parking available.
This was our second visit to India's. We really enjoy it. On this occasion, we had an early reservation due to a concert we were attending, so the restaurant only had a few other guests. The owner was there to greet us and he also waited on us. He is a very friendly man who will take the time to answer any questions and make recommendations.
My wife was trying to decide between three entrees and the owner asked me what I was having. When I told him, he recommended a particular dish to her because the sauce that came with mine would complement her selection.
Four our entrees, I had the Chicken Makhani, which was chicken pieces cooked in the oven and then cooked with tomatoes, onions, butter and cream. It had a very good flavor. My wife had the Lamb Biryani, which was chunks of lamb, cooked with rice. She enjoyed it and had enough left over to bring home for another meal.
India's is a place that you could go to for a variety of occasions. Easily a casual dining destination, you could also dress up and make it a place to celebrate a special occasion.
There is a large parking garage right behind the restaurant and there is a parking lot that customers can also park in once the businesses around the restaurant close.
I have driven past India's probably 1000 times and never stopped! I am so glad that we decided to go in. The food was amazing, the server was great making suggestions to us and helping us choose the right spice level for our liking. It was very quiet (because we were ever 2 of 4 people in the restaurant) but they should be packed every night for the quality of the food and the cost!!
Our family thoroughly enjoyed the lunch buffet during the USNA's Commisioning Week. Annapolis was mobbed with the families and friends of midshipman and India's offered a fabulous brunch for $11.95 per person with a great variety of offerings. The nan was replenished without request for the duration of the meal and being within walking distance of the Yard but not downtown made for a quite respite from the crowds,
I've been to India's a few times, and have never been disappointed. We had made a reservation for 8 people as a get together with friends. Honestly, we probably wouldn't have needed a reservation, as there was only one other occupied table on a Friday night, which blows my mind! Do people just now know this place is here? I hear they've got a great lunch buffet, but I've never had the chance to check that out. But seriously, it amazes me that the places right across the street are packed with people waiting for a table, but this place is practically empty. Get the word out! Check them out!
