Great, low-lit, intimate place with some of the best sushi I've ever had!
Tan Tan Udon Noodle soup
Great food and very helpfull waitress
Everything was so good, but especially spicy tuna on crispy rice in the course menu was sooooo delicious❤️
Although the food was delicious, we were seated over 35 minutes after our reservation, with the hostess telling us: "About ten minutes" continuously! Once we were seated, everything: the food and the service were excellent.
I went there 2 years ago for their pf menu. We had great experience. We came here again today also for their pf menu. However, we felt the food and the service weren’t as good as when we were here 2 years ago. For example, we haven’t finished our 3rd course but they already served us our 4th course. By the time I finished my 3rd course, the 4th course’s cold.
What is usually such a fun experience was sort of ruined when my friend spilled her miso soup all on her lap and no one came over to help or ask if she was ok. We ordered a new soup and I had to make sure to ask for it on the house. We used all of our napkins to clean the spill and they took those but didn’t bring us new ones until we asked. I felt like they really didn’t care about the customer.
Flipping fantastic! Did sushi bar seating and was entertained all night viewing a large bustling and authentic Japanese kitchen. Food was hot off the grill fresh, served to us over the wall on long pizza oven type “planks”. Go for the prix fixe, well worth it, as it can include lobster, MASSIVE prawn and oysters and amazing tuna. Friendly and attentive service. Heavily Japanese crowd, which is a good sign. Would definitely go back again and again. My fiancée absolutely loved this place.
Our first visit, we (2) had the 6-course meal on a Living Social half-price deal; with tipping on the full value, came to about $50 per person. We had a great time sitting at the counter and felt it was an excellent value. It felt really friendly in there, not hurried, not snooty, not crowded. We liked all of the food, the restaurant was not too noisy (a rarity in nyc!), our wait staff was polite and efficient; the portion sizes were good; no complaints whatsoever! I would definitely go back. The location right next to Port Authority is very convenient. Next time I will order a la carte to try something we did not already have. Inakaya could easily become my regular go-to place.
is great food and great service, have fun in restaurant also.
We loved it. From the food to the experience and birthday ceremony they had for my friend.the drinks not so much but every thing else was on point
Great fun to sit at the Robata bar. Very fresh ingredients. Authentic old world Japanese cooking.
Very disappointed in the food. Service wasn't that great. Food looks like it's cooked by ametur. Tasteless and burned. My kids will not go back again
It was my baby girl's 14th birthday dinner. We had so much fun. Birthday girl love it.
Will come back and recommend . Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Sashimi: higher quality tuna was not available by 8 pm. Regular tuna tasted “processed “. Eel, salmon and roe were good not great.
Waygu beef skewers were amazing. Maybe 4 oz for $34, a third skewer would have made it reasonable. Sake was reasonably priced and complex.
We came for our 30th anniversary for the 6 course tasting menu. The staff was extraordinary pleasant and professional and the decor was well done. We sat at the robata bar which we were told was very unique. It was interesting but not amazing. Most of all however, the food, which was plentiful and nicely presented, was just OK - nothing special. We did have a Living Social deal which made the evening very reasonable. This is probably a fun spot for a large group, if you have show tickets nearby or if you are not very familiar with Japanese food.
We came here because of a groupon coupon promising half off for a 6 course tasting menu.
We left hungry. Went home and had some pizza on the way.
Our waiter was charming and attentive but the portions were tiny and we have much better Japanese food on the upper westside.
Would never return.
There is some chanting and costumes but even that bit of drama doesn't change the experience or give it any authenticity.
Excellent service, setting, and food. Sushi was excellent.
Sat at the cocktail bar for a drink and some raw oysters. Then was seated at Sushi bar. Food was delicious and service was very friendly. Awesome experience.
This was the fourth or fifth time we ate at Inakaya. We arrived 10 minutes early but although there were many open tables they asked us to wait. They kept us waiting for 40 minutes and would not let us sit at an any of the five open tables because we were only a party of two and these table were for four people. They wanted us to wait for a table at the bar. When asked, they replied that they were waiting for a party of eight. This was simply untrue as no party of eight arrived when we were there. Eventually we were allowed to sit at a table but at that point the mood was ruined. Inakaya does not honour reservations if it thinks it can do better with walk-up customers. That is a terrible indictment of their approach to their customers.
Food was great! If you have a friend whose birthday is coming, visit Inakaya and tell someone it’s your friend’s birthday! They will offer you one free dessert.
Inakaya is a rarity, a Japanese robatayaki place that also serves excellent sushi and other dishes. From the well-chosen sake list to the sashimi and duck skewers, Inakaya really delivers a lot. A plus, at least for me, is that all the servers speak Japanese.
Great Japanese delights. We order a few starters and can recommend the squid. The sushi combo was delicious. The service was impeccable and we loved how you get served by the chefs directly with the paddles over the bar. Highly recommend for a date night or out with your mates.
Fantastic. We had a great time and the food was excellent. We ordered one of the sushi platters and it was such a good experience. Our waitress was amazing!! Funny, attentive, and charismatic. She made sure the birthday dessert was a special surprise. It was a little pricey but fine for a special occasion.
I've heard of this place several months ago and finally got a chance to pay a visit. The ambiance is great and the waiters are really friendly. We booked through Opentable and could only get counter seat which actually something I prefer. Around 8pm there is a mochi pounding ceremony where you can jump in and try some pounding and of course there is free mochi for all afterward. The place is very entertaining and I recommend to get a 6-course-meal deal from Groupon/Living Social. We will definitely be back with family and more friends soon !!
Good food and great service. Every time my husband and I travel to NYC we make sure to stop by Inakaya to enjoy a delicious meal.
Diverse menu. Reasonable prices for food categories. Enjoyable ambiance. Delicious food.
INAKAYA never fails. Their service, food and drinks are consistently great!
Trang is awesome! I made a reservation, as I always do. However, when my friend and I got to the restaurant, there were no tables available so she offered us seats at the bar until a table opened up which took only less than 10 minutes. She nicely explained to us the situation. She handled the situation pretty well. Trang is very professional and friendly. My family and friends actually look forward to seeing her each time we go for dinner at INAKAYA.
The food was very tasty and the sushi was fresh! Tried a couple things off the menu and we pretty much loved them all. Would definitely recommend giving it a try if you haven't already!
Have been here many times. Very interesting and creative choices of Japanese cuisine (far beyond just sushi, etc..) Also, good vegetarian selections as well. Great Sake selection and some fun cocktails.
Lovely staff and good service. Go here for pre-theater often since it's right in theater district.
I'm a regular at this outpost. Usually for business dinner but this time I was with family. Party of six was seated in the corner next to busy bar. Server rarely came by to check on our order or refill tea. An hour and half later, two main courses have yet to arrive or forgotten. We cancelled the order and finished with desserts. The food was fine just lackluster service. I don't recommend sitting near the bar. Ask for seats at the counter or tables .
I took a client out for dinner and when we arrived, the entire restaurant was empty except for one table. We were brought over to sit at the sushi bar. I asked instead if we could sit at one of the open tables and we were told since the reservation was booked on open table, I could not have an actual table. Only those who make phone reservations could sit at the tables. The entire restaurant was empty and this to me was quite unacceptable. I told her I would then cancel my open table reservation and call the phone, in which she told me she couldn't seat me until 9:30. Ridiculous.
It should be noted somewhere on open table that you will only get seated at the sushi bar and not get a regular table unless you call and book over the phone.
Good service and good food!
We had the preset menu. Six course meal for my wife and seven course for myself but we shared. Very good choices. Lots of food for the two of us. Everything was delicious.
First Time I was there - always looking for something delicious in the theatre district that is not touristy - this was I it!
It's my second time at Inakaya and it was fabulous. Food was even better this time around and was great the previous time. Service is impeccable and just a wonderful atmosphere all the way around. Thank you Inakaya.
Everything was delicious but the desserts.
Service been great except when My fiancé finished his tempura don, I haven't gotten a glimpse of my tuna rice.
Wonderful experience, sit at the bar!
