At Imperial, Chef/Owner Vitaly Paley and the culinary team will re-imagine and re-present Pacific Northwest culinary pathways. Exemplifying Oregon’s own James Beard's culinary philosophy, Chef/Owner Vitaly Paley and his culinary team will explore menu ideas that have historic significance while exploring cooking methods and ingredients from the diverse bounty of our region. The most prominent feature of Imperial's kitchen is an impressive wood fire grill and rotisserie that will incorporate the use of native hard and fruitwoods. Inspired by warm, primitive, burning campfires and the big open spaces of the Pacific Northwest, Imperial will concentrate on natural and uncomplicated preparations, serving the community by celebrating its past and providing a welcoming and generous place to eat.

Imperial Ratings and Reviews
This place delivers every time. My boyfriend and I went for an anniversary but every time we have been the service is just great, they're personable and know all of the ins and outs of the restaurant and menu. The food is impeccable some of the best cuisine in Portland. All I have to say is try the hot sauce and the duck meatballs (duck meatballs with the rolls, to die for).
I have always liked Imperial, but the last two visits are making me question whether I will ever go back. We went for drinks a few weeks ago and the bar tender was awful. Zero personality and snobby. We went back for brunch on Sunday and that wasn't great either. The lattes we ordered were lukewarm. I ordered the crab omelette, and that wasn't hot either. I complained about the lattes (they got replaced and taken off the check), but I didn't say anything about the omelette as I didn't want to ruin the meal for everyone else. We also ordered the Classic Breakfast with scrambled eggs and the Imperial French Toast and those were fine. Not sure what's going on here, but something is definitely off.
I've eaten at Imperial before and was ho hum about it. However, this visit was a whole different story. The steak, sprouts and poke were all outstanding. The wines by the glass and cocktails were delish and matched the food nicely. Staff was cool and professional, but not particularly friendly.
I will go back again soon.
Enjoyed a tasty dinner while traveling solo in Portland. Comfortable restaurant, but a little loud at dinner.
Food was delicious and I enjoyed the must have duck meatballs with a garden salad topped with sunflower seed brittle.
Accompanied by a nice affordable wine list--I would recommend dining at the Imperial.
Special shout out to my waitress Allie who was efficient and friendly.
Tried the impossible burger here. Love their combo on it. Not very vegan friendly even though the patty itself is vegan. Though for those who don't eat red meats/eat less red meats, it's a great treat. I don't eat burgers with beef patties so it was my intention to try the impossible burger at Imperial. Their non-alcoholic drinks were also very creative/interesting.
My husband really wanted to try the Impossible burger. He’s a vegan and had heard great things about it. Our server Maggie was great. She helped “veganize “ it for him (shout out to the kitchen!) and I had it how it was listed on the menu. It was amazing! My son ordered the clams and I may or may not have tried to eat half of his as well. The broth was ridiculously good.
Loved the music they were played and did I mention our sever Maggie was great?! Highly recommend. Oh, I’ve had the fried chicken here before and it’s slap ya mama good!
Dinner with a friend Black Friday. We had roasted chicken which was a good sized portion and good flavors. Had scallops which I think there where 3 on a giant plate. They were said to be good. Had the fancy beef burger. Certainly large enough with good flavors. Came with inedible cold soggy beef tallow fries. $24 for a burger should come with decent fries IMHO. A couple of very nice kale salads. Otherwise beyond being very expensive, a decent place. Dinner with no adult beverages was $115. I would go again, but, wouldn’t rush to do it.
I made reservations for 8:15pm on a Friday night. The scene was busy and loud. Huge concrete pillars gave the restaurant an unfinished vibe with antique-looking chandeliers and modern abstract paintings. The bar was bustling and looked fun but we could not find a seat so we waited in the vestibule for our window table (as requested) to become available. It took longer than expected due to the fact that the wait staff had been slammed with two large parties seated at the same time right before us. The hostess/wait staff was nice enough to comp us two drinks for the wait.
Dinner was delicious!
Duck meatballs..YUM! *
Parker House rolls..YUM! *
Roasted chicken. Average.**
Potatoes. Yum. (smokey-tasting and just a little crispy).***
That morning, the head chef had cut up a steer which had been aged 50 days and Imperial had a special menu just for those cuts of meat.
Very impressive, but we passed for lighter fare.
All in all, we thought the food was delicious and the menu was very good for all types of palates.
I wish the restaurant was a bit quieter, as it was hard to hear over other conversations near our table.
I was hoping for a romantic dinner with my husband but Imperial is set up for larger parties who don’t mind a noisy venue.
I thought for the increased price, food was mediocre. I expected more from reading other reviews. Hostess wasn’t super friendly, and our waitress didn’t know what seasoning was on one of our breakfast items. And didn’t seem to care or want to find out. I would not recommend this place to others for breakfast. However, I haven’t been for lunch or dinner. Also, the lightning was very bright and directly overhead, and it was loud.
We had a Saturday night dinner reservation at 6:15. We were a bit early and they seated us promptly. All of the staff was super friendly. The food is outstanding with a number of unique, unusual choices which is exactly what we were looking for. The drinks were super and the wine list was robust. We felt well taken care of, were able to enjoy our special occasion with lots of energy around us, yet we could still have an intimate conversation. Well done!!!
I’ve had a nice dinner here previously, so I looked at their lunch menu and thought there were enough offerings to be interesting. However, we ate on Saturday with no warning they only serve brunch which wasn’t at all what we wanted. It was mediocre; (no English muffins )?
Too many great options in Portland for us to go back
We enjoyed our brunch at Imperial — the signature fried chicken was excellent but the gravy and biscuits that accompanied it were a little greasy for my taste. My friend enjoyed his crab omelette. The side dish of collard greens in a tomato sauce was wonderful.
AMAZING. Our meal was so tasty! Everything came out quickly and was delicious. Only thing to note here was that we needed to adjust our reservation and so we called the restaurant directly and no one ever got back to us so we just did it through open table. Other than that, this place was busy, accommodated groups of all sizes and was overall just a fun ambiance.
