About Imperial

At Imperial, Chef/Owner Vitaly Paley and the culinary team will re-imagine and re-present Pacific Northwest culinary pathways. Exemplifying Oregon’s own James Beard's culinary philosophy, Chef/Owner Vitaly Paley and his culinary team will explore menu ideas that have historic significance while exploring cooking methods and ingredients from the diverse bounty of our region. The most prominent feature of Imperial's kitchen is an impressive wood fire grill and rotisserie that will incorporate the use of native hard and fruitwoods. Inspired by warm, primitive, burning campfires and the big open spaces of the Pacific Northwest, Imperial will concentrate on natural and uncomplicated preparations, serving the community by celebrating its past and providing a welcoming and generous place to eat.

I took customers here for dinner, we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal! The service was excellent, we started with the Parker house rolls (SO yummy!), and shared the Brussels sprouts (with lardons, apples, and Dijon) they were perfectly cooked. There were four of us in total, two people ordered the fried chicken (a specialty of Imperial), myself and one other person ordered the Wagyu Spinella, which was perfectly seasoned and cooked. It was honestly one of the best beef dishes I’ve ever had!! Hope to eat here again next time I’m in Portland!

This restaurant is my go to in Portland! I know I can always count on great food to impress my friends and out of town guests. I also love going with my husband for unforgettable food.

This place delivers every time. My boyfriend and I went for an anniversary but every time we have been the service is just great, they're personable and know all of the ins and outs of the restaurant and menu. The food is impeccable some of the best cuisine in Portland. All I have to say is try the hot sauce and the duck meatballs (duck meatballs with the rolls, to die for).

Looking forward to our anniversary celebration, and things were great until our entrée arrived. My husband"s Waygu Beef was not cooked to medium rare, it was way over on half of it. Our server was wonderful, apologized and returned it for a redo. Unfortunately that took 45 minutes, meaning he watched me eat, and then I watched him eat. They graciously brought him an order of duck meatballs while he was waiting, and because it was obvious our dining experience was affected, they comped us the entire meal. Good for them, because it left us feeling like they "got it" and cared about us as customers. Of course we left a generous tip.

We started with the mushroom soup, which was really excellent. For entrees, we had the mushroom stroganoff and the Impossible burger. Both were exactly as described, and the Impossible burger really is something special for those that don't eat meat.

I did enjoy the experience being my first time dining there. Food tasted good, server was on point. I did think my two scallops, and some puree weren't worth $21.

I have always liked Imperial, but the last two visits are making me question whether I will ever go back. We went for drinks a few weeks ago and the bar tender was awful. Zero personality and snobby. We went back for brunch on Sunday and that wasn't great either. The lattes we ordered were lukewarm. I ordered the crab omelette, and that wasn't hot either. I complained about the lattes (they got replaced and taken off the check), but I didn't say anything about the omelette as I didn't want to ruin the meal for everyone else. We also ordered the Classic Breakfast with scrambled eggs and the Imperial French Toast and those were fine. Not sure what's going on here, but something is definitely off.

As usual, Imperial delivered delicious food and cocktails to our group. It's our "go to" for out of town guests, though for older people it can be noisy. The fried chicken is a go to, but everything is great, with perfect sized portions.

good energy for party crowd but failed to meet my prior request for a booth, too loud for enjoyable conversation, waited long time for initial drink order, some entrees lacked any garnishment and menu with little vegetarian options and no organics

We were a table of five, all which had different drinks and food. Nevertheless, every single course was great ) mmm... 28 day aged beef). A real surprise. Service was excellent as well. We will definitely return.

I've eaten at Imperial before and was ho hum about it. However, this visit was a whole different story. The steak, sprouts and poke were all outstanding. The wines by the glass and cocktails were delish and matched the food nicely. Staff was cool and professional, but not particularly friendly.

I will go back again soon.

Enjoyed a tasty dinner while traveling solo in Portland. Comfortable restaurant, but a little loud at dinner.

Food was delicious and I enjoyed the must have duck meatballs with a garden salad topped with sunflower seed brittle.

Accompanied by a nice affordable wine list--I would recommend dining at the Imperial.

Special shout out to my waitress Allie who was efficient and friendly.

Tried the impossible burger here. Love their combo on it. Not very vegan friendly even though the patty itself is vegan. Though for those who don't eat red meats/eat less red meats, it's a great treat. I don't eat burgers with beef patties so it was my intention to try the impossible burger at Imperial. Their non-alcoholic drinks were also very creative/interesting.

My husband really wanted to try the Impossible burger. He’s a vegan and had heard great things about it. Our server Maggie was great. She helped “veganize “ it for him (shout out to the kitchen!) and I had it how it was listed on the menu. It was amazing! My son ordered the clams and I may or may not have tried to eat half of his as well. The broth was ridiculously good.
Loved the music they were played and did I mention our sever Maggie was great?! Highly recommend. Oh, I’ve had the fried chicken here before and it’s slap ya mama good!

Dinner with a friend Black Friday. We had roasted chicken which was a good sized portion and good flavors. Had scallops which I think there where 3 on a giant plate. They were said to be good. Had the fancy beef burger. Certainly large enough with good flavors. Came with inedible cold soggy beef tallow fries. $24 for a burger should come with decent fries IMHO. A couple of very nice kale salads. Otherwise beyond being very expensive, a decent place. Dinner with no adult beverages was $115. I would go again, but, wouldn’t rush to do it.

Special meat cuts. Had a turn on a ribeye cut and it was one of the best steaks I've ever had, period. You can pay for waygu, but this cut was as tender and flavorful, though the texture doesn't compare to the more expensive Japanese beef.

I made reservations for 8:15pm on a Friday night. The scene was busy and loud. Huge concrete pillars gave the restaurant an unfinished vibe with antique-looking chandeliers and modern abstract paintings. The bar was bustling and looked fun but we could not find a seat so we waited in the vestibule for our window table (as requested) to become available. It took longer than expected due to the fact that the wait staff had been slammed with two large parties seated at the same time right before us. The hostess/wait staff was nice enough to comp us two drinks for the wait.
Dinner was delicious!
Duck meatballs..YUM! *
Parker House rolls..YUM! *
Scallops. Tasty.***
Roasted chicken. Average.**
Potatoes. Yum. (smokey-tasting and just a little crispy).***
That morning, the head chef had cut up a steer which had been aged 50 days and Imperial had a special menu just for those cuts of meat.
Very impressive, but we passed for lighter fare.
All in all, we thought the food was delicious and the menu was very good for all types of palates.
I wish the restaurant was a bit quieter, as it was hard to hear over other conversations near our table.
I was hoping for a romantic dinner with my husband but Imperial is set up for larger parties who don’t mind a noisy venue.
