At Imperial, Chef/Owner Vitaly Paley and the culinary team will re-imagine and re-present Pacific Northwest culinary pathways. Exemplifying Oregon’s own James Beard's culinary philosophy, Chef/Owner Vitaly Paley and his culinary team will explore menu ideas that have historic significance while exploring cooking methods and ingredients from the diverse bounty of our region. The most prominent feature of Imperial's kitchen is an impressive wood fire grill and rotisserie that will incorporate the use of native hard and fruitwoods. Inspired by warm, primitive, burning campfires and the big open spaces of the Pacific Northwest, Imperial will concentrate on natural and uncomplicated preparations, serving the community by celebrating its past and providing a welcoming and generous place to eat.

Drinks, pop tart and my husband's food were great. My omelette was really bad though. My plate was covered in water, omelette was overcooked and smelled very fishy which was not appealing. There was also a large piece of crab cartilage in my omelette. For $19, I was incredibly disappointed. I'm not sure I will come back for awhile unfortunately.

My wife and I wanted to go out and get some much needed time away from the littles. We occasionally like to try new places in and around Portland, we found the imperial on a list of best steakhouses in portland. I really enjoy a good steak and was excited to try this place out. We had been to the bar that is a spin off of the restaurant, it was very nice, cozy, good drinks, pleasant atmosphere. Imperial was a bit loud for our liking, but not crazy, let’s be real it was a Friday night at about 830 downtown. Not a deal breaker. We ordered drinks, my wife really liked hers. I wasn’t drinking that night. Ordered the 35 day aged meet York for $64 and was underwhelmed to say the least. We waited nearly an hour for our food, which can be somewhat understandable due to the busyness of the place. My steak was dry and crusty on the outside, the flavor was fair, but off. The Chimichurri had a film from sitting under the light. My wife’s hamburger had zero flavor and was way off with it being from the “special cuts” menu and being made with 35 day aged beef, for $24. They brought us Brussel spouts for the wait, a nice gesture, but no one ever mentioned being sorry for the wait or explained what was going on. Our waitress was busy the whole time running around our table but was not attentive to us in the least. She was nice and pleasant but just not attentive. I don’t believe we will return. Unfortunately because we liked the restaurant as far far as appearance.

The food was excellent and selection made available was very good. The servers was attendant to our needs. Our seating was near the bar but it was not noisy. The prices were good and the portions were generous.

We had a show at the Newmark and the staff were great at providing just the right amount of quiet time and encouragement so we could make our show.

The food was outstanding - we had the flank steak salad and the salmon. Both were delicious! The glazed carrots were amazing.

We will definitely be back to try other menu items!

Our table of 2 was legitimately forgotten about and no one seemed to care. After waiting 10 minutes after sitting down, I flagged down a server and asked to place our orders. After placing our orders and delivering drinks, that man never came back. About 40 minutes after getting our food (dropped by a food runner), a different server asked if we’d like our check (we had been trying to catch someone’s attention again. When we expressed our dismay at the lack of server we seemed to never have assigned, it fell on deaf ears. The food was delicious, but not good enough to warrant this behavior.

Service is always top notch and quietly attentive. Cocktails are excellent. The appetizers and salads are always good, especially their kale salad. Wood fired grill and steaks are their specialty and gives the food a great smoke flavor.

I try to visit Imperial whenever I'm in Portland and it's always enjoyable. Unfortunately, the restaurant had overbooked and they couldn't seat us until ~30 minutes after our reservation time. While this is something that would normally sour an evening, this hiccup was handled very well and we were extremely happy with the service. The food, as always, was great. In particular, I'd highly recommend the kale salad, peach and tomato salad, and the house rolls.

Been here 3 times. Each time the staff has been exceptionally friendly, service has been prompt, and the food delicious. Definitely recommend the seasonal Pop tarts if you are there for breakfast or brunch!

This place is good but not somewhere I would go out of my way to recommend. The bloody mary was good and the gin cocktail was decent, but the food didn't "wow" us. The portions were somewhat small and the presentation was not great. If you need to go somewhere with a reservation, check it out. Otherwise, skip brunch here and head elsewhere.

The Positives: great location and service provided by the staff. The atmosphere is decent, but wouldn’t consider it to be exciting, romantic or worthy of bringing me back here.

The disappointment: the food. Though the drink choices were good/interesting the food was very disappointing, especially considering the price. Fried chicken that had great texture but was very bland for $24? No thanks. Overall the food was very disappointing made even greater by the price and other amazing options in the city from brick and mortar restaurants to food trucks.

The Imperial doesn't disappoint as there is something for everyone and always prepared in a unique way.
It is good for sharing as well and has a menu that showcases the fresh and best of the Northwest.
When trying to visit with friends, it is very very noisy and that is my only complaint ......makes it hard to hear one another and I believe the acoustics issue can be solved.

Imperial is one of the few restaurants that can do a variety of cuisine styles not just well, but VERY well. The staff are always attentive and orders come out rather quickly, which is why this restaurant is one of my top picks for a business lunch.

Good ambiance.

Food quality was average.
Overpriced.

Preparation and delivery of food was suspect.
Never had a cold T-bone. This falls on chef, server or management.
A $69 T-bone should arrive the table hot or at worst warm.
Unfortunately, it arrived cold to the touch!

The manager (Aurei, sp?) came to the table about my lack of satisfaction with lots of attitude showing his dissatisfaction that a piece of meat had to be discarded. He then said “a medium rare steak is going to be cold, would you like it cooked medium so that it’s warm on the inside to please you”... Wow!
I told him I expected the T-bone to arrive hot in temperature. Not cold!

Once he brought another T-bone to the table he mentioned TWICE that “this ribeye came right off the grill”.
Pitiful customer service and a total lack of respect for his customer!

Management and waiter never offered to bring fresh sides of potatoes or vegetables after waiting 20 minutes for the steak.
Did not matter to them that my sides had to be eaten prior to the new steak or that my son had to eat his salmon on his own..
No offer or thought of “hey, sorry for the inconvenience. Can we get you fresh sides, a glass of wine or a dessert”.

Bar might be good. No lunch menu on Saturday, only brunch then they “were out of” what is likely a signature dish. Other stuff can be found elsewhere. Stadft was nice.

Compared to other Portland restaurants, this one was slow and overpriced. The steaks were also tough. We waited 45 minutes for our meal and 20 minutes for our check. It was a bit of a disappointing last night of our vacation.

From the time we walked in we were treated like old friends. Service and food were top notch. I don't drink and I really appreciate a hand built mocktail, a nice touch. Thank you for a lovely evening. The only thing better than the food was the service. Kirsten and Ari took great care of us.

The second Chef Vitaly Paley restaurant we visited during our short time in Portland. Rosa Rosa at Athens Dossier was outstanding but Imperial is good too.
