At Imperial, Chef/Owner Vitaly Paley and the culinary team will re-imagine and re-present Pacific Northwest culinary pathways. Exemplifying Oregon’s own James Beard's culinary philosophy, Chef/Owner Vitaly Paley and his culinary team will explore menu ideas that have historic significance while exploring cooking methods and ingredients from the diverse bounty of our region. The most prominent feature of Imperial's kitchen is an impressive wood fire grill and rotisserie that will incorporate the use of native hard and fruitwoods. Inspired by warm, primitive, burning campfires and the big open spaces of the Pacific Northwest, Imperial will concentrate on natural and uncomplicated preparations, serving the community by celebrating its past and providing a welcoming and generous place to eat.

A slightly eclectic menu with excellent options. Our chicken pate appetizer fed three easily. Lots of nice, affordable wine options. Excellent and friendly service.

The portions were very small and there was no complimentary bread. We had to place three orders of bread. Also, it took a long time for the food to come out. The food was tasty, but very salty and rich. It was good but honestly I expected more.

Great food. Two Vegetarian dishes were loved by my guests. Steak is amazing. I had the fried chicken hot sauces SO GOOD. GREAT DECOR - check out the Lucia hotel is also amazing. Lively, I could still hear all conversation. Drinks are extraordinary too. Really great food and in Portland that is saying something.

only downside was there was a blazer game on at the bar on Mother's Day so it was a bit loud. if I weren't with my family I would have been at the bar myself. great place for a special dinner.

I made a reservation for Mother’s Day for just my mom and I. We were seated immediately, service was GREAT, dining room was low key but is a really nice atmosphere. The food was stellar too. Definitely worth the price, although it was pretty average/comparable pricing for brunch food.

Went here for a special
Birthday dinner and the staff and server barely acknowledged this occasion. It was incredibly noisy and service a bit slow.
The burger , fries and mushrooms are excellent but the pricey steak was very tough. Worth a try if you love burgers

The ambiance and energy was great for our group. The drinks were excellent, servers were nice. The burgers were cooked well done not medium rare like we asked. If not for the fact that these were premium grade beef that cost $24 a piece it wouldn’t have been that big of a deal. Manager ended up comping for the burgers so we felt they made it right on that side. Other food was great.

The service was mot a pleasant experience, took 15 min to get our wine order than another 10 min to receive it. Order rib eye steak for $40 and there was so much fat that only half of it was eatable.
Our server had no personality. Extremely loud in the restaurant

When you go out to eat at a nice restaurant the service can really make or break it. Now the food is amazing however our waitress was by far the worst waitress ever. My dad took my sister and I out for a mothers day dinner. Very special night. This Karen I believe was her name (short dark hair) was so rude she acted like us asking her any question about anything was bothering her. She was very short with us and really ruined the whole experience for us. From the very beginning to the end she was rude even needed to inform us she has been there 5 years so what she says goes. Sad to say because of her we will not be returning ever again. $300 dinner I expect my service to be better!!!

Sadly disappointing. I've heard so much about Paley's restaurants and found Imperial to look like the kind of place we liked. Nice design location and ambiance. However, the food was disappointing, especially for the price. I had a half roasted chicken and it was dry and barely warm. My wife had a burger which was overcooked. Our guest had halibut which she liked but I tasted it and it didn't come close to what I typically get here in the Northwest. Staff was nice and friendly but we won't be going back.

Overall experience left slightly bad taste in my mouth in regards of food preparation and serving.
Out of 5 people, 4 got the food at the same time and 5th had to wait 10 minutes to get hers.
We ordered 2 x T&T Barrel Planked Pork, which was served in time, was lukewarm but very tasty.
2 x Brandt Beef Flat Iron (1 rare, 1 medium) - rare was served as ordered, medium was served rare. Server was absent so we didn't have a chance to mention this to her, we were hungry and we ate the beef since it was tasty. (The guy who likes raw beef ate it, not the person who ordered medium beef.)
Roasted chicken arrived 10 minutes later, it was dry but tasty. At this point we were able to tell our waiter of the beef being rare. She offered us bread rolls as a compensation, which we declined. All main course plates were cold arriving from the kitchen. We paid our bill in full.
We did enjoy our evening but in my opinion in a place where prices are what yours are, mistakes like this should not happen.

The steak I ordered was not very good, it was so fatty that I couldn't cut it with a serrated knife. The other steak my friend ordered was ok, not as good as the price. The sweet potato was so ashy there was no other flavor except ash. The turnip appetizer was outstanding. Service was also very good.

I love this restaurant! The food is delicious, especially the fried chicken. I'm originally from New Orleans and I refer to chicken as the "sacred bird" so this is a great compliment to Imperial! We have eaten at the restaurant at least four or five times over the past few months. Great job, great restaurant. I dig the crazy wallpaper too.

Near perfect late night dining experience. Steaks and chops are front and center but sides were given just as much attention - our radish on toast appetizer and simply dressed green salad nearly stole the show. Service was unstuffy and attentive and far exceeded my ever-diminishing expectations for swank Portland dining.

Great recommendations from our server, Elana. The rib eye was incredible. The smoked mushrooms....mana from heaven! Duck meatballs! Wow.

Loud, energetic restaurant with friendly, energetic service. Food is creative, boldly conceived and flavored, some misses but certainly some hits. Great fries, salad, soup. Other courses (e.g., fried chicken) are bold rather than sophisticated—but no one promised sophistication. Wine list is very good, if a bit pricey, and cocktails are great. Servers were busy but nonetheless terrific.

Light and busy. On a Friday at lunch service was efficient and the food was great. Recommend the pickle plate! Guy at the next table had the chicken and it looked fabulous-next time. Desserts were perfect.

We came here for the first time to celebrate a birthday. Food was excellent. Service was slower than we like - to start - and got better and more responsive throughout the meal.

We had the duck meatballs and Parker rolls to start. The duck meatballs are totally worth it. As a Bostonian, I can tell you the Parker House rolls are close - a little too dried out to be considered authentic.

We had two beef dishes and the asparagus. Both were cooked to the right temperature and quite tasty.

Desserts were interesting and different from other restaurants. I enjoyed the strawberry rhubarb eclair and my partner enjoyed the fruit pie.

We would recommend and would come back for the food. We noticed some tables are family style so you might be sitting close to strangers. We had a booth and that was perfect for us.

One of our Portland favorites, the last couple of visits have been disappointing. On this past visit, the main courses were extremely salty, with unusual flavor pairings that just didn’t work with our palates and there was a huge disparity between portion sizes. The pork was too much and the halibut was appetizer-sized. The staff was wonderful and pleasant as always though.

First, the issue with service. We were seated, given a jug of water and left to poor it ourselves. No server approached us to take our our within 10 minutes so I had to get someone. That person acted as if they had to go out of their way to take our order. Then when the food came out a different server became our server. She was kind enough. The food was good but less than the hype given around town. I get the feeling that the employees aren’t happy, or that’s what it shows as. A top restaurant has employees that work as a team. This place seems to be a collective of independent persons. Good location and the decor is interesting.

Our New York strip did not come back, in our eyes and agreed by our server, as medium rare. She took it back and then to our surprise, brought the plate back with the message that the steak was done and it was a resting medium rare. We took that as the chef obviously disagreed and sent the plate back out to us. Luckily the server offered to still have a new steak cooked for us. The next one honestly came back very rare. We weren’t about to send it again. Frustrating. The servers tried and they took a couple of dishes off our bill - one appetizer and one side. Nice restaurant. Just never had the meat come back to me...

The food was fantastic and our server was incredible. I wasn't sure what I wanted for dinner but saw others eating what appeared to be a really popular dish. I asked the waitress what it was and she mentioned it was daily special and that there was a chance that they may be out but was willing to check for me just to make sure. Turns out I got the last one and it was DELICIOUS. Thanks for a wonderful time.

Every was impeccable. The service was professional and warm. The food was delicious. The wait staff was very well informed and able to discuss food and wine pairings. It is not a cheap place to eat but we left delighted.

Imperial was a disappointment, knowing this is owned by Paley Vitale; we love Paley's Place. My firiend and I dined for dinner prior to a concert. The menu is served a la carte: the flat iron steak $29 was just that-a flat iron steak. Add a small dinner salad for $10, and so on. We shared the burger which was on the special list and came with fries and we each ordered a dinner salad. The salad was tasted good but very basic - greens with hazelnuts sprinkled and champagne dressing. We were asked how we would like the burger cooked; we ordered it medium. Not only did the burger arrive well done, but there were several pieces of inedible chunks of gristle, bone or ? we had to spit out. Not good for a $24 burger! We order the strawberry eclair for dessert. This was an embarrassing dish that would never pass the Vitale test! A soggy, flat eclair that was likely in the fridge for days, or the baker's first try. Completely sub standard.
The drinks we had, however, were awesome-the No Poblano was savory and extremely tasty. I would recommend Imperial for drinks and ambiance. The food was not their strong point.

Super noisy, slow service. The food finally came and I had ordered beef carpaccio and it was frozen to the plate. They brought me anew one but it was disappointing.
