Imperial Koi Asian Bistro Sushi Bar Ratings and Reviews
I was really excited to go for a date with my husband here, but the experience was disappointing. The food was alright, but definitely not the best in town. The decorations and ambiance were wonderful but we got seated next to an obnoxious table even though there was plenty of space in the restaurant. We left as soon as we could.
My wife met at Imperial Koi for lunch a week ago and now wanted us to both experience it. An excellent well-appointed restaurant, a courteous and helpful waiter, a real find for us (not sure why it took us so long). A minor complaint is that my wife had liked the sweet potato tempura roll and wanted me to try it. Instead the waiter brought us shrimp tempura, and when we pointed out this wasn't what we ordered, he smiled and said he was sure we would like this instead. Which we did, but still, a bit odd. Despite that, an excellent restaurant, and we'll return.
I REALLY wanted to like this place! I am of Japanese heritage and I was craving sushi. We went on the recommendation of a friend. The restaurant itself has a very nice atmosphere but, unfortunately, the sushi was terrible. They specialize in a variety of "new" rolls which simply have too much "stuff" in them. We ordered only nigiri; the fish had either been frozen or it was several days old. Nothing tasted fresh. This place was a true disappointment!
We've eaten here many times before and it is one of our favorites. The four of us were celebrating my birthday and because we are regulars we were taking advantage of the 10% off birthday coupon. My son and I each chose one of the featured specials and were very pleased. My wife got her usual Pad Thai and my other son got the Hibachi Steak. We all shared the crab rangoon appetizer which was different from other restaurants' version of the same thing but much better! My wife also ordered one of the featured drink specials.
Great Father's Day lunch--- the girls began with a Sparkling Sugarplum & a Raspberry Bellini--- Delish -- for starters we tried the Calamari,
Duck Confit Spring Rolls, & the Summer Rolls -- all devoured! -- Husband had the most beautiful plate of there different sushi rolls see picture- my son & I had traditional Chinese dishes, Chicken & Broccoli & Crispy Honey Chicken, the honey sauce was outstanding, superior honey flavor. But not syrup-y or overly sweet. All entrees came w/soup or house salad that consisted of a nice spring mix--- not the cheap watery lettuce -and choice of 4 rice varieties. All meals were thoroughly enjoyed. We skipped dessert this time, & look forward to our next visit.
The food and presentation were excellent as usual. However, our entrees were brought to our table before we even finished our appetizers. The waitress quickly apologised and took back the food until we were done with our first course. This happened despite asking her to make sure that they wouldn't bring our entrees too soon. We have dinners there many times. This was a first. I still would return in a heartbeat.
The sushi was great. Although pricey, it was delicious. They have great combinations, great options for sushi and entrees, and good specials too. However our service was some of the worst I've experienced. We were there in a Sunday evening, and there were more than enough servers to go around for the amount of tables that were full. Our server only checked on us once plates & glasses were empty. We wanted to order a series of sushi rolls but not all at once. In two hours we only were able to order three rolls because of the lack of service. It was at least 20 minutes between the time our server would drop off a roll and come back to check on us and anyone that eats sushi knows that it doesn't take two people nearly 20 minutes to eat 6-8 pieces of sushi. Would I go back? Maybe. If I wanted the quality sushi, yes but I would make sure I was in no rush and would be hesitant because of service.
I took my boyfriend there to expand his palate some and he enjoyed it. Our server Jessica was wonderful and provided great recommendations and answered any questions we had. They also have a rewards program. This is my third time there and I was not disappointed. They have a nice variety of sushi and even if you don't like sushi they have something for everyone. Do try the BBQ spare ribs (the sauce was incredible) and the tempura cheesecake. It is moderately priced and for our Sunday Funday dinner our bill was $50.49 and I got a cocktail too. So check it out the atmosphere was very low key which is nice when going out so you can hear the person your talking to. Great experience :-)
Oh Myyyy!!! What a mistake to come here. Where to begin? Had early reservations, which we clearly didn't need....there was no one in the place at 6 pm. Our server had the personality of an eggplant. Sat and waited 10 or more minutes constantly waiting for water and drink refills. For the price it was right up there with the worst Asian food myself and my partner has ever had. It was a special occasion as we were meeting my partners son and his new fiance for what we thought would be a great dinner. Had gotten a recommendation from a friend at work, but it hardly lived up to the hype I was told about. My partner and I both ordered the Hibachi steak (supposedly ribeye) and chicken. It was pricey at $26.95 but to add an additional $1.50 for overcooked fried rice was just a rip off. We both ordered it medium-rare but when it came out it was like shoe leather. The chicken was so over cooked it was actually hard and crispy in spots. I have previously worked in steak houses before and I can guarantee you the steak was not ribeye. Besides being overcooked to within an inch of its life, it was not marbled like a ribeye and we both had gristle and a huge fat line running through every piece. All the vegetables were overcooked and mushy. My partners son had a sushi roll that could have been bought at Harris Teeter for a third of the price. His fiance had the General Tso's chicken. It was such a small portion that we all laughed. We didn't complain because it was a special occasion and we didn't want to ruin our evening. Dropped almost $120 for food that could be gotten at our local Hibach Epress for about $40. Will never recommend or go back again. Go to PF Changs and don't waste your time or money.
We loved Imperial Koi. It was our first time and we were celebrating out anniversary. The food was great, but the best part was the service. Shalom was our server and she was incredibly knowledgeable and hospitable. We'll be back to see Shalom with our new VIP card. Thanks again!!!!
Service - extremely poor! Food - just okay! We had to request EVERY SINGLE drink refill, which included us having to ask another waitress to please let our waitress know we need drink refills. We literally watched her at the bar area standing and laughing with other staff instead of waiting on her only table. General Tao's chicken and sushi were just okay! Beautiful atmosphere but lacking in the other categories. Disappointed patron.
Imperial Koi has excellent food. It is creative and delicious. There is something for everyone. We try to eat there every time we are in town to visit my daughter and her family. The entire family loves Imperial Koi. The ambiance is relaxing and peaceful and the service is excellent.
