Always enjoy going there for Brunch, lunch or dinner prior to the Opera, Ballet or a show. The food and service are excellent. They make you feel so comfortable whether you are alone or with family or friends.
I had one of my best meals in NYC here. Great food, wonderful service, and friendly staff. The food was perfect and delivered so quickly that I went to the restroom after we ordered and by the time I came back the food was ready! I have never been to a NYC restaurant that exceeded my expectations more than Il Violino.
We enjoyed a delicious dinner. I had the parpadelle with lamb ragu, with a great Sicilian wine. Salad was also exceptional. Others enjoyed the scallops and branzino
Service was warm and friendly!! Will come back
Great menu and service. Located very near Lincoln Center for a great before event dinner.
Delicious homemade pasta
Il Violino has a very nice menu and I will definitely go back. The food was nicely prepared and presented, and the service was excellent. I enjoyed the minestrone soup and the salmon with a mustard sauce. The tiramisu was delicious and the biscotti were wonderful with a cup of espresso.
Went for lunch and had the prix fixe lunch. Ordered salad and chicken marsala. Both were fresh and tasty. I would go back again.
As residents of the Upper West Side, we have a lot of options for Italian dining close by. None of them match Il Violino for the combination of outstanding food, friendly and professional service and neighborhood feel. Perfect for dinner Pre-Lincoln Center or before or after a movie. Always worth it to listen to the nightly specials . . . they have a seafood linguine in parchment paper that is to die for! Enjoy this local favoriate.
Really good dinner before Lincoln Center. Excellent service. Delicious pastas.
Our first time, but we will definitely return.
Very lovely place with good service. The pre-fixe lunch menu is a good value. Food is good. Close to Lincoln Center.
The food was excellent. We all had the prix fixe menu and all four of us enjoyed our choices. We would definitely go back.
Very good food at a reasonable price for the Lincoln Center area.
Great pre and post theater place. Great service, wonderful food. Highly recommend!!!!
The food was OK but certainly not worth the price. Very quiet seating on the covered patio next to the street. Good service
Il Violino is a neighborhood gem. Cozy and warm the food is always top notch at very reasonable prices. The service is excellent also. If you have a show to catch you'll always be on time!
I've dined in some of the best restaurants world wide. I don't mind paying premium dollar for quality food. The portions were skimped if not halved. Chillian Sea Bass looked like veal scallopine, very thin and dried out, not tall and succulent. It was served over an entire plate full of broccoli. The lamb chops were equally thin. You could see the chef splitting a single portion into two. Not impressed at all. The seating is extremely, extremely close, even for NY.
Very crowded table layout, good but not very good food.
I've only gone here for brunch. But each of the several times I've been it's been great. They're very amenable to any requests, it's a quiet, calm atmosphere and very good food.
It’s in our neighborhood, always good; I even go by myself!
great local place for good food, great fresh pasta and salads
I highly recommend Il Violino…consistently great food, service and you never know who will be sitting at the table next to you, this evening it was Loretta Swit from MASH! I was so excited…just love her!! We had the Stinco di agnello (lamb chops) yummy yummy! The indivia salad was just delish and then of course the Lemon Ricotta Cheesecake was the perfect ending to a wonderful dinner. They also have a great wine list that is reasonably priced. Oh and they have a great prix fixe dinner for Valentines day..we already have our reservations!!
We had an 11:30 am Sunday brunch and were the first ones there.
Quiet at first but then the restaurant quickly became busy. The food was great and the Bloody Mary is excellent.
this is a nice steady dependable restaurant that honestly handles gluten free and other reasonable requests. have gone there for years when in the area and want a nice meal especially with friends as it is relatively quiet and nice decor etc.
My friend and I went to Il Violino for lunch. The food was very good. The restaurant was about half full, so it isn't clear why the service was so slow. The server kept our water glasses full and delivered our bread promptly. I ordered the daily frittata and my friend ordered the prix fixe lunch. The prix fixe was a good deal - soup or salad, glass of wine, entree and coffee or tea. It was probably 20 minutes before her soup arrived and another 10 or 15 for the entree. The frittata was excellent - fresh vegetables and cheese with an accompanying salad. They delivered chicken francese instead of the chicken Marsala that was ordered but the replacement arrived quickly and came with mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables.
Dinner specials looked interesting. I expect to return.
Good service and food
My daughter and I met for dinner before attending a lecture nearby. I was looking for an option with some healthy choices. We were both quite pleased with our selections. We shared prosciutto and melon to start. I had scallops served over sautéed vegetables and my daughter had a pasta dish; we shared asparagus as a side. Everything was excellent. Our food came out quickly but not too fast as to feel rushed. The waiter was attentive. I would go there again.
Once again , a very nice meal at Il Violino and so convenient for Lincoln Center events. And what fun to have a window seat and watch the people on Columbus Avenue!
Great neighborhood Italian restaurant. Decent to high quality, reasonable given location, enjoyable
Warm friendly greeting to a consistently excellent restaurant. It’s a meal you can count on and enjoy again and again. Lasagne, Broderick de pesce, branzino and happiness. ...an espresso and a cookie and it’s off to the show.
Although we have lived near Il Violino since its creation in 1993, I had never been there until this week, when it was convenient because we were going to a movie across the street. Clearly, the outside of the restaurant had not appealed to me. Although the service at lunch was good, I did not think much of the food. Pasteurized Parmesan sliced as if it were American cheese on top of my carpaccio of beef, with approximately one-third of a cup of arugula, was not my concept of this popular appetizer. My companion ordered the lunch special, which was reasonably priced but no more refined. Her portion of chicken Parmesan was generous, but
its presentation and accompanying boiled vegetables did not inspire me. The tiramisu was good, but dessert was not included in the lunch prix fixe. I think I will not go back.
good food, great service, nice ambiance, nice waitress
Great food and atmosphere! Will definitely go back when I’m back in the city.
I took two friends to their Saturday brunch ($20). It is a great bargain and the selections for brunch are all excellent. Plus a choice of several drinks (Bloody Mary, Mimosa. etc.) makes it a real bargain. Friendly and efficient staff. Reservation recommended for week end brunch.
IL Violino is consistently very good. We particularly like the friendly and efficient staff. The appetizers and pasta are great, and the steak is a big hit, too. It also has a very convenient location.
Had a quick drink at the bar while waiting for our families to arrive. Maria, the bartender was very engaging and served a great drink.
Once our families arrived we were promptly seated. Also, the place really started to get filled.
Our server was wonderful and accommodated our request to bring our my daughter lasagna with our appetizers. The mozzarella and anti pasta we were served was amazing as was my daughters lasagna.
Our main courses were incredible. I don’t know the name of what I ordered but it was cooked in a pastry and it was a pasta covered with seafood. It was also, outside of my wife’s cooking, the best meal I’ve ever had. My wife’s risotto was superb.
Overall, a phenomenal meal in a gem of a corner spot in NYC.
The branzino with a large serving of sautéed fresh mixed vegetables was beautifully prepared. The bread was fresh and tasty. Gelato flavors are limited to vanilla and chocolate.
Il Violino has an excellent menu with an excellent variety of nicer Italian dishes. The restaurant is tight on space as you would imagine for that part of NYC, but the service was excellent - attentive without being overbearing. The noise level was vibrant but not overbearing. Our family of five enjoyed entrees and dessert (no alcohol) for $221 (before tip).
Everything was ok except the meatballs which had no real taste. My lil doggie enjoyed them later. Salad with avocado had 3 tiny pieces of Avo. Olive oil dispenser was very small... enough for one person when there were 3 of us. $185 plus tip for 3 is a little excessive. Good wine selections.
Went here before going to the symphony. Arrived early and were seated right away. Food was excellent and plenty. Service was attentive but not rushed. Highly recommend.
