Il Violino was established in 1993 by the Mariani family. They are from Villa Santa Maria, a little town in the heart of Italy (Abruzzo) known as La patria dei cuochi (chefs from this town have been executives at the Vatican, the White House, embassies and top restaurants and cruise lines around the world). Il Violino has been one of the original Lincoln Center Italian restaurants and, in these days, one of the few still in operation.
The chef Vincenzo Mariani, formerly the executive chef at Monsignore (one of the top restaurant in New York City in the 70’s and 80’s), leaded the kitchen with his international experience and created an original and innovative Italian menu.
In 2009 the owner, decided to write a new page. The restaurant has been renovated and transformed into a Trattoria: a warmer and cozier ambiance, one of those that you can easily find in any small town in Italy.

Dinner on April 21, 2018 was great. To begin my husband and I shared the tri-color salad. We followed with the seared scallops over spring vegetables which were delicious. The tartufo was a perfect end to a perfect meal expertly timed and served. We look forward to our next visit.

Main dishes were very good but accompanying vegetables appeared to be frozen, not fresh.

My wife and I found this spot on our honeymoon, and we fell in love right away! The food is excellent, the service is great, and the atmosphere is wonderful! Don't miss out on an espresso with dessert, this place has literally the best espresso I've ever had!

We were very happy with the food and the service. Our table was quite near the storm porch and every time the inner door was opened we got an icy blast of cold air. In cold weather why not keep both leaves of the outer door closed? Just a thought.

Great experience as always. We were going to the opera and had a wonderful meal early enough to make an 8 pm curtain. I had the Branzino. It was fresh and well prepared. My husband had the chicken piccata. It was also very tasty but could have been a little more lemony. Service was prompt and gracious. Great experience all around.

The waiter who recognizes me is absolutely terrific. Gracious and inviting. Even served lemoncello to my guests and me on the house. Food great. Menu very varied.

Everything was adequate, nothing was special. The prices are reasonable and it’s a good place for low key dining.

Glad to find a different restaurant for pre Lincoln Center performances. It was good, easy and not too noisy or crowded.

We chose the restaurant based on the reviews and proximity to Lincoln Center. Overall the experience was just ok, food was fresh but bland and prices were a on the higher end relative to he quality (as expected given the location). The service was very friendly and accommodating, we appreciated the attention our server Bianca provided.

Il Violino is consistently reliable for outstanding Italian food reasonably priced. Their seafood soup in tomato broth is great as is their braised lamb. Service great.

This is a cute neighborhood Italian joint that's a nice departure from the super swanky power broker restaurants a few blocks south. Love the starters and desserts especially. The tables are narrow, so it's not a great place to take a large group...but it's lovely for an intimate dinner and conversation.

Delicious traditional Italian food in a pleasant setting right near Lincoln Center. Perfect for before-theater or a long schmooze with friends over good Italian wine. We were so lucky to snag the table for four in the window! We certainly had that delightful schmooze and thank Il Violino for honoring our request for that spot. Lucky!

Gracious and efficient service, generous portions of delicious food attractively presented, a generous pour of wine for the price (and an excellent, reasonably-priced all-Italian wine list with enough choices to satisfy any taste). The prix fixe menu offers nice choices at excellent value (although we couldn't resist ordering from the full menu). The sidewalk-view tables are quiet, so you can enjoy your company as well as the food. All in all, an outstanding choice in the Lincoln Center neighborhood.

Had a delightful lunch before the ballet at Lincoln Center. The minestrone soup was an instant warming bowl of delicious. Our friends also enjoyed their frittata and salads. Love this place perfect for before or after anything.

Made post-half marathon reservations for brunch for 4. The restaurant is a perfect sunny spot for brunch or pre-theatre lunch or dinner. The prix-fixe was great - both sweet and savory options, great price and hearty portions. The staff was extremely nice.

Look forward to coming back before a concert at Lincoln Center.

I had one of my best meals in NYC here. Great food, wonderful service, and friendly staff. The food was perfect and delivered so quickly that I went to the restroom after we ordered and by the time I came back the food was ready! I have never been to a NYC restaurant that exceeded my expectations more than Il Violino.

As residents of the Upper West Side, we have a lot of options for Italian dining close by. None of them match Il Violino for the combination of outstanding food, friendly and professional service and neighborhood feel. Perfect for dinner Pre-Lincoln Center or before or after a movie. Always worth it to listen to the nightly specials . . . they have a seafood linguine in parchment paper that is to die for! Enjoy this local favoriate.
