The chef Vincenzo Mariani, formerly the executive chef at Monsignore (one of the top restaurant in New York City in the 70’s and 80’s), leaded the kitchen with his international experience and created an original and innovative Italian menu.
In 2009 the owner, decided to write a new page. The restaurant has been transformed into a Trattoria: a warmer and cozier ambiance, one of those that you can easily find in any small town in Italy.

They're consistently excellent. Glad they've weathered the pandemic!
Staff was very helpful. We changed our reservation last minute & the accommodated us.
Thank you for making it wonderful!
Our daughter and grandson were visiting from out town and this is our grandson’s favorite restaurant. They make him a fettuccine alfredo even though it is not on the menu. Every entree was great as was the service.
Good Italian dining very near Lincoln Center. Warm and caring staff.
Have been going here for years great food and service
Outdoor in a small structure. Was fine. Waiter was excellent. I think his name was Michael. Risotto frutte da mare was delicious as was the Gnocchi Bolonese. .
Loved the mussels this time and always enjoy the reasonable wines by the glass. Great value.
Everything tends to be quite perfect!
LOVE IT! Great Food, great neighborhood, great service!
It was very enjoyable…. Great food and service!!!!
Server was not around to check on us often and when we were checked on the server was then gone for very long periods of time(20+ minutes at a time). Our desserts were forgotten about. The live opera singing was also distracting from our meal. The food however was very good.
Food was simple but very good Wanted to support a local restaurant. They are a bit overpriced by a good 20% At their price point your entree should include more. For example they should include mashed potatoes AND vegetables, not either or. Food very good, value not so much
Enjoyable evening except for noisy table next to us… impossible to converse.
Fantastic service and high quality Italian food
we always have a great time and our usual table when we go there. Food is always on point and service is always excellent.
The best Italian restaurant on the UWS, maybe in all of Manhattan! I had their John Dory for lunch and it was the most delicious fish I’ve eaten in years! Polite and unobtrusive service, lovey ambience, and great for people-watching. I’m in love with this one!
I love Violino! The staff is friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious!
Staff was great. Carmen at the bar was terrific, and Daniela was an outstanding waitress.
We were seated promptly.
The food was excellent.
We went there right before our movie, and, we made it.
Definitely will be returning.
Great food as always! Service was a little slow but it was busy. The braised lamb was extraordinary.
Service is very slow. Food is good. So mixed bag.
Service was great. Restaurant has inside tables with windows looking out to avenue and side street. I felt as if I were in Europe.
They had too many tables to serve and not enough people to handle all of the customers. We left before they took our order.
Since one of my favorite Italian restaurants has closed, I have been looking for a restaurant that had excellent linguini with clams in a white wine sauce. Their version, along with added prawns, was excellent to my taste. The appetizer Caprese (fresh tomatoes with mozerella cheese) was also very good.
As always dining at Il Violino is a great experience. I've never been disappointed there.
A great way to ease back into restaurant dining, good food and service, people-watching if you're outside. A great neighborhood venue.
Food is pret. Reminded me of an episode of Kitchen Nightmares where everything is microwaved. Pretty outdoor space for Covid dining and no wait are the pluses
This is my husbands favourite Italian in the city. I’d made a reservation for our wedding anniversary and specifically requested outdoor seating. We got there on our exact reservation time to find we had to wait 40mis for our table. They tried to offer us a table inside or one that was in the middle of the sidewalk by the front door where the foot traffic was insane. The host didn’t apologise but just thanked us for our patience. Good will for putting a downer on our night would have been nice but no. We ate and drank and we’re almost the last ones to leave given our table was given to us so late. The food is great I’ll give them that, but what happened to service and hospitality? Yes people are dining out more so you’ve got business again, doesn’t mean you can mistreat people now.
Daughter and grandson were visiting and this is their favorite dinner place in town. The food was excellent and the ambiance at a window table is great.
Great prixe fix brunch deal which includes a cocktail.
Always a pleasure. Great, friendly restaurant with excellent food.
Had not been here in awhile. The food and wines by the glass were as always more than fine. The service was just adequate at best.
Wonderful outdoor setup. We went for brunch and the food was mediocre. The flourless chocolate cake on the other hand was REALLY good.
One of our favorite local spots, consistent in service and delicious meals.
Very delicious and the service was terrific!!
We had a lovely experience at Il Violino. The menu is broad, the food was tasty, the service was friendly, and there were even opera singers for entertainment. The outside setup is comfortable and feels safe. So glad we came!
nice lunch special--salad, john dory fish, great service. Solid place.
Good Experience, waitress was wonderful!
It was excellent. I want to go back!
