Il Violino was established in 1993 by the Mariani family. They are from Villa Santa Maria, a little town in the heart of Italy (Abruzzo) known as La patria dei cuochi (chefs from this town have been executives at the Vatican, the White House, embassies and top restaurants and cruise lines around the world). Il Violino has been one of the original Lincoln Center Italian restaurants and, in these days, one of the few still in operation.
The chef Vincenzo Mariani, formerly the executive chef at Monsignore (one of the top restaurant in New York City in the 70’s and 80’s), leaded the kitchen with his international experience and created an original and innovative Italian menu.
In 2009 the owner, decided to write a new page. The restaurant has been transformed into a Trattoria: a warmer and cozier ambiance, one of those that you can easily find in any small town in Italy.

Perfect for brunch before a matinee at Lincoln Center. Nice prix fixe menu options. We both had frittatas with home fries or salad. Service was excellent.

Great neighborhood spot. Wonderful if you are going to Lincoln Center,.The fish dish was delicious. Service gracious and attentive. Prix Fixe lunch super.

A treat for pre-theater dinner. The food wasn’t fancy, but very flavourful. The way you hope home cooking tastes. The pasta puttanesca, a special, was cooked to perfection letting the vegetables sing. The chicken special (with prosciutto and fresh tomato) was also noteworthy. The staff was terrific. A great first visit.

Top quality traditional Italian restaurant. Even the staff stay for years, sometimes decades. You can depend on having as fine a meal and dining experience a few years later as you had a few years before. My wife and I look forward to our next visit to this classic Italian.

Food is very good — well-prepared, perfect portions, good variety of Italian favorites and more. The service is also good, friendly, helpful, available but not hovering. Terrific choice for local UWS dining and close to Lincoln Center.

We were celebrating a 100th birthday. I had the chicken parm. It was delicious. One friend had a pasta dish and the other had fish. They both commented how good their selections were. The prefixed lunch was well worth the price. We each had soup or salad and a glass of wine in addition to our entrees. We each ordered dessert to.celebrate the birthday “girl.” We all left feeling very satisfied. I will definitely return.
