Il Tesoro-Sanibel Ratings and Reviews
The food was delicious. The waiter was very professional. We moved our table 3x until we got the perfect location within the restaurant. They were very accommodating about our seating preference. Authentic seafood cooked perfectly in delicious sauce. Salad a bit pricey but delicious and ample serving.
It was our anniversary, which they were advised of prior to our arrival but no special accommodations were provided.
All in all we enjoyed our dinner very much and will definitely return
A wonderful alternative to the more touristy places on Sanibel. Real authentic Italian cuisine. I enjoyed shrimp tempura in a sauce as my appetizer. Not sure how Italian, but it was most excellent. For my entree, the veal marsala did not disappoint. Its a small place... in an old Florida cottage, so make reservations.
In the past, we have had good experiences here but put latest visit this past week was disappointing!!! The service was good but the food was very disappointing. The food not only didn't taste good but the portions were too small. To pay the type of prices, get poor food and then walk away hungry is a shame.
Excellent date destination. Small place with an open kitchen where you smell the aroma of the food while your stomach rumbles in anticipation.
The drive up appeal on your first visit will be deceptive. So look closely, it is right there.
This has become one of the places on our "date night" list
Too small & tables too close. Our dinner was ruined by a couple next to us -he couldn't stop trying to "sell" the woman on vacations-then he started talking to everyone around him because the tables were WAY too close together. The "tempura " (odd term in an Italian Restaurant) appetizer with "sweet & sour" sauce was soggy -the only good part was the fried arugula. The sauce was nothing more than balsamic with red pepper flakes. The bread was stale & hard, my shrimp & crab ravioli were gummy & fishy and the short rib over gnocchi was way too hard to eat -plus it was very dry. The wines had no vintages on the menu (which is a pet peeve of mine). Wouldn't return. I am convinced after dining many places on Sanibel that the best food is on the mainland, (where we are at) & that most beach towns have food that is just so-so (since tourists are stuck there anyway) and not worth driving to.
Food was fantastic, especially the special fish of Sea Bass atop risotto and I had the Fettucine Mare Monte ... The pear and Gorgonzola on grilled bread atop green salad was also excellent. Service was phenomenal and all dishes cooked correctly and as explained on the menu and by the server. This is my second visit to the restaurant. We went early this time, so the noise was not an issue, but if the dining room is full it is a trifle loud.
We spent a week on Sanibel on vacation, eating dinner out most every night. Dinner at Il Tesoro was our favorite, hands down. It was a nice change from typical island seafood. We felt as if we were eating in a small restaurant in Italy. The food and service were terrific. I had the veal with lemon sauce, a traditional Italian meal. The veal was so tender I didn't need my knife. The lemon sauce was just right. Delicious. My husband had the short rib with gnocchi. It was flavorful and fell easily off the bone with the pull of his fork. Service was friendly, their recommendations were perfect. Next time we're on the island, we'll go back.
I've read reviews complaining about service. Something has changed! The service was excellent, staff warm and friendly. All of the food came out on time and was served hot and was delicious. The limoncello cake was superb! We need to remember that we are not in Chicago or Manhatten. This is one of 3 excellent restaurants on the island.
Was extremely pleased with alsolutly everything. Your waiter Dimetre was delightful and well informed on all dishes and understanding of my guest food allergies to allow options. Watched the chef display her skillls with each dish. Foodie dishes with great portions. We will return and thanks!
Very disappointing. We ordered from the menu with specials. I ordered the pork chop which the waiter said was terrific. My wife ordered the Tuscan salmon over risotto. The waiter had recommended it. They were both terribly ovecooked. I could not even cut into mine without an effort. I tried a piece and it was really over cooked. My wife's salmon was so over cooked that it was white, not pink. The waiter took them back. I ordered something else. My wife had them make the salmon again. It was slightly better. The waiter pretty much ignored us after that. He didn't seem interested in assisting us at all. After we gave them back the entrees I checked my email on my phone. Il Tessoro had cancelled my reservation which I had made on Open Table. I guess they figured that we would give them a bad review as Open Table emails diners after the dinner to write a review. I showed the server and he said nothing. I asked for my points and he said that he would take care of it. He never did. I called Open Table and the gentleman was nice and gave us our points. Stay away from this restaurant!!! It is also overpriced. That was so annoying about it. We threw away a lot of money.
The food was good. However, the service was indifferent at best. Others who were seated after us were served water drinks and meal before ours. They were asked if they wanted more wine. We were not. They were asked if there meal was good. No one came by after our meal was served. We were to get an extra bowl for clam shells that can way too late While the food was good the service made it an unpleasant experience that we would not care to repeat
We have been visiting Sanibel for over ten years. We found this incredible gem of a restaurant on our first visit and have returned each year. We dined there again on Friday March 18, 2017 for another excellent dinner. The food was superb - as always - the service was impeccable - as always - and the evening - memorable - as always. We will be back next year - as always.

The steak and veal were prepared to perfection. However, a couple of the side dishes not so much. The roasted potatoes were charred black on one side and the local organic snap peas (that our waiter was so proud of) were so tough, it was difficult to bite through the pod. Unfortunate, but I'd give it a second try if ever on the island again.
We have been here before and were pleased that it was every bit as good as last year. I would try the antipasto (too much for one)which greets you at the entrance. The fettuccine mare e monti is very tasty with a hint of truffle flavor. My wife had the gnocchi with Quattro formaggi which were also delicious. Don't forget desert. The limoncello cake is also very good.
Il Tesoro is a charming restaurant with a lovely ambiance. The aromas that greet you when you enter are rich and very Italian. The problem for us has always been the overall attitude of the hostess/host; the wait staff, (save a few who are always charming). But the overall, permeating attitude is of a snobbery and an indifference. Very unwelcoming and a coldness. This has been the issue for years. If they could improve that from the top down, this little restaurant could be a charm! The food is generally very good. The whole experience is all too often affected by the restaurants attitude toward the customers.
