About Il Terrazzo Carmine
Il Terrazzo Carmine, owned and operated by Carmine Smeraldo, is one of Seattle's true dining anomalies - a highly successful restaurant with unfailingly high standards and a loyal, sophisticated clientele. The cuisine has been acclaimed as Seattle's best by the media and more importantly, by local diners.
Il Terrazzo Carmine is located in historic Pioneer Square - nestled in an urban-renewed alley with entrances through the vintage lobby on First Avenue or through the delightful courtyard in the back. Since 1984, Carmine Smeraldo's classic Italian restaurant has been where the locals have chosen to return over and over again. From the Carpaccio Di Bue and Spaghettini Dell 'Ortolano for lunch to the Suprema Di Pollo Farcita and Zuppa Di Pesce for dinner you will know you have gone to a place where excellence is a way of life. Arguably the best Italian restaurant in Seattle, Il Terrazzo serves classical Italian cuisine with an atmosphere you may want to call home and never leave

Il Terrazzo Carmine Ratings and Reviews
The veal was outstanding, but the clam pasta was bland with no real flavor of garlic or clams. Further, the house pinot grigio had turned bad, although the waiter replaced it with a nice chardonnay. The desserts were excellent. Overall, I was disappointed with a poor pasta which is so easy to make.
Delicious describes this restaurant. The veal ravioli is perfect, the food is beautifully presented and cooked, the ambiance is excellent, the service great. Pricey but very decent Italian food. The wine prices are too high for the quality of wine, but if you get the some of the staff recommend great bottles at decent prices, others lead you to crazy prices that are not worth it. Call it the luck of the draw. Great valet service. Charming ambiance.
Had a great meal. The selections were numerous, the preparation spot on. The service was perfect and the wine options plentiful. While not cheap, it is reasonable for this level of dining experience. This is an excellent place and I will return next time I'm in Seattle.
This was a very nice evening to celebrate a family birthday. The space is very comfortable and attractive in a way that feels old-fashioned. They still bring a tray with all their dessert options on it (fair warning, though, the portion size of the tiramisu on the display tray was significantly larger than the portion they served us. Based upon the display size, we decided to share the dessert. Oh well, probably didn't need the extra calories. Also, while we ate every bite, the waiter had called it "the best in the city" and we would not agree. It was too strongly saturated with rum so that was really the only flavor you could taste, even the coffee flavor was over-powered. But my sister's cheesecake was divine).
We were well taken care of, with bread and water being refilled effortlessly.
The food was mostly amazing, with a few perfectly middle-of-the-road options. The venison/mushroom ravioli was DIVINE! I wanted to lick the plate. Amazing. As was the butternut squash soup. The surf and turf special was amazing, the veal scallopini was excellent, too. The side dishes (mixed vegetables and a herb risotto) were both uninspired and not great. I mean, they weren't terrible either, but none of us bothered with more than a bite or two of each. And the starter of melon and prosciutto was also underwhelming. Still, all of the "not great" items were still edible. And the items that were great were AMAZING!! It was a nice night out.
Went to Il Terrazzo Carmine for the first time and we weren’t disappointed. Food was awesome as was the atmosphere and the service was perfect, attentive and helpful without being overbearing.
Can’t wait to go back because there were so many good menu items that decision making was a challenge. Just need to go and try some different choices.
Superb service by pleasing and knowledgeable staff. Fantastic tender New York Steak, delicious pray chop in fruit reduction, tenderest green beans in the entire universe, cheesecake to die for. 1 PM lunch with excellent wine list, really good Italian wines by the glass (try them all!). Convenient by bus or streetcar for those who hate to drive downtown.
Il Terrazzo is an Italian restaurant specializing in food from the Naples region. My wife and I had two different pasta dishes, crab & shrimp and venison, and both were excellent. In addition, the service was excellent and our waitress was outstanding. The wine list consisted of a good selection of both European and West Coast American wines.
Multiple visits have each had excellent food, often with healthy additions to the sauce, the soup, and the salads. They also have excellent service to alter the specifics if the guest needs it. And the coffee cups or water glasses stay full. A quiet environment is so respected as my friends and I catch up with each of our activities.
Travel to Pioneer Square and parking nearby can be difficult, but the restaurant is well worth it.
This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Seattle. We celebrated my birthday here earlier in the year. When it was time to celebrate our anniversary, I could have picked any restaurant in the city, but chose to come back here. My favorite dish is the rack of lamb, which I had on both occasions. The menu has quite a selection and the service is perfect! I love the ambience and will continue to keep coming here for many more special dinners.
This is a great uptown lunch spot. Great food close to everything. We dined at night this time, and the food and service were excellent. I am probably a little old fashioned but the unilitarian ambiance that feels good for lunch , doesn't quite provide the warmth needed at night.
Had a really nice dinner in a very busy restaurant. We parked valet at Carmine's and went to a show at Safeco. No charge for the parking! We, of course, tipped the valet well for being there at 1130pm. There were other people who had learned this trick and the restaurant was slammed with a full house at 5pm, so our entrees were slow arriving. The food was worth waiting for! Very nice Osso Bucco. Wonderful bean soup and excellent salad to match. We skipped desert in the interest of time.
Il Terrazzo Carmine remains a dependably great Italian meal, the best in Seattle for a very long time. Seattleites miss founder Carmine, but the restaurant has certainly not lost the attention to detail and staff training. The abundant choice of small and large, tasty appetizer portions contributes to the enjoyment of traditional multi-course Italian meals. Veal, fish, and game dishes are excellent, as are the many pasta features. Carmine's special wine list remains, along with a wide choice of other quality wines.
