About Il Terrazzo Carmine
Il Terrazzo Carmine, owned and operated by Carmine Smeraldo, is one of Seattle's true dining anomalies - a highly successful restaurant with unfailingly high standards and a loyal, sophisticated clientele. The cuisine has been acclaimed as Seattle's best by the media and more importantly, by local diners.
Il Terrazzo Carmine is located in historic Pioneer Square - nestled in an urban-renewed alley with entrances through the vintage lobby on First Avenue or through the delightful courtyard in the back. Since 1984, Carmine Smeraldo's classic Italian restaurant has been where the locals have chosen to return over and over again. From the Carpaccio Di Bue and Spaghettini Dell 'Ortolano for lunch to the Suprema Di Pollo Farcita and Zuppa Di Pesce for dinner you will know you have gone to a place where excellence is a way of life. Arguably the best Italian restaurant in Seattle, Il Terrazzo serves classical Italian cuisine with an atmosphere you may want to call home and never leave

Il Terrazzo Carmine Ratings and Reviews
Cioppino was highlight and worth coming back for....wife's double cut pork chop filled with
apples was incredible..(well she shared one small bite)....of 8 people celebrating our annual
Valentine's dinner....all of us raved about what we had (6 different main courses)
This restaurant was disappointing. Our appetizer and main courses were all pretty bland and mediocre. My fiance got the duck as a main course, and it was so dry, and didn't really taste like duck. There have to be way better restaurants at this price point.
We are long time patrons of Carmine's Seattle for special occasions, out of town guests, special treat, but this will probably be our last time there. Our favorite appetizer seemed to lack key ingredients, food was served luke-warm and fish of the day wasn't fresh; Duck was severely fatty and undercooked. Hostess offered to make $ amends but manager overrode her with his business card and an offer to "take care of us next time". This isn't the same Carmine's since his death, so we are in the market for a new special place.
We were in the same location as a year ago, celebrating our wedding anniversary.
We had the same waiter, and that was such a delightful bonus to us. Not certain
that was random, or planned.
The bread is outstanding, and our meals were excellent. You could be the best Italian restaurant in Seattle. Thank you for asking for our feedback!
Il Terrazzo has been one of our favorite restaurants for special occasions and has never disappointed us. We were greeted by a very gracious hostess, seated at a lovely table and served promptly. The Caesar salad and special soup were fabulous. However the Cannelloni and Risotto were not as special as we have experienced in the past. The dessert on the house was very good. We'll definitely dine there again.
Long-time I’ll Terrazo customer but hadn’t eaten there in a year. Disappointed by the haphazard service and so-so food. Waited 15 minutes before we could round up a server for a drink order, long wait for the drinks and one had to be returned. Caesar salad largely bland with no hint of anchovies. $50 pepper stake had a tasty sauce but the meat was tough and tasteless. Tri-colored desert cake had little color and was dried out.
In addition, tables and chairs in our area were jammed together and a waiter persisted in bumping the back of my chair (without apology) to wait on adjoining tables. Sorry to pan a once-favorite restaurant but I can’t think of a reason to return.
Service was outstanding I have to say .
I used to come here when carmine was running the Restaurant , I have not been here since he passed .
The food was not what I remember it was when Carmine was in charge , seemed like the food was underwhelming , not very tasteful almost bland in a way. Sad to say but true .
The Restaurant is very beautiful and the ambiance is wonderful.
If they could just get a Chef that knows Carmines food I would say 5 stars but for now 3 1/2 stars .
We have been coming here for decades, and this last year (they opened a new branch in Bellevue) the quality of the food is very significantly and sadly negatively impacted. The standard enormous veal chop is no longer enormous, it is middling in size and no longer mouth watering, but tough and somewhat flavorless. The calamari which for years was full of spice, tender and delicious is tough and thin (taste wise just a tomato sauce nothing...and we have been on three separate occasions to test this out), the bread is still great in Seattle, the waiters are great, the service is great...its just the food....I could go on about the eggplant starter (no, it should be melt in your mouth delicious not under cooked and not pulled together as a dish), the ravioli is still good, the salad and dressing is ... well, save your money and don't order it. The pork chop was tasteless and tough....really disappointed and third time not happy...we are done. Go elsewhere unless you want pasta...then you are in good hands.
I took two out of town friends here for an after business meeting dinner. Both are Italian, and they both thought the food was outstanding and authentic. Il Terrazzo Carmine is one of my go to spots when I have out-of-town guests that are staying in the downtown area.
The service here is impeccable. You feel special from the moment you enter the dining room. The antipasti sampler is a must! Each dish is carefully prepared and delicious. The wine list is notable -- we enjoyed a lovely Barolo that the waiter expertly decanted for us. The osso buco was tender and delicious. The side of fettuccine, less so (was cold and stuck together). The rabbit special was also delightful, but again, the side was not impressive. Overall an enjoyable evening in a lovely dining room.
