About Il Terrazzo Carmine
Il Terrazzo Carmine, owned and operated by Carmine Smeraldo, is one of Seattle's true dining anomalies - a highly successful restaurant with unfailingly high standards and a loyal, sophisticated clientele. The cuisine has been acclaimed as Seattle's best by the media and more importantly, by local diners.
Il Terrazzo Carmine is located in historic Pioneer Square - nestled in an urban-renewed alley with entrances through the vintage lobby on First Avenue or through the delightful courtyard in the back. Since 1984, Carmine Smeraldo's classic Italian restaurant has been where the locals have chosen to return over and over again. From the Carpaccio Di Bue and Spaghettini Dell 'Ortolano for lunch to the Suprema Di Pollo Farcita and Zuppa Di Pesce for dinner you will know you have gone to a place where excellence is a way of life. Arguably the best Italian restaurant in Seattle, Il Terrazzo serves classical Italian cuisine with an atmosphere you may want to call home and never leave

Il Terrazzo Carmine Ratings and Reviews
Service and Food were awesome! Babysitter canceled last minute so me and my wife had a +1. Our waiter recommended a great cauliflower soup that my son loved. Our food was out of this world good. Waiter was very attentive constantly insuring everything was to our liking. Will definitely be coming back.
Best Italian restaurant in Seattle, hands down! We love coming here and every dish we've ever ordered is phenomenal! Ryan has been our server the last two times and he is a gem, request him! The cauliflower soup is to die for and you can't go wrong with any of the pasta dishes or daily specials. Their wine list by the glass is short, so order a bottle!
Il Terrazzo continues, after several decades, to be consistent, delicious, and elegant ... without being pretentious. The pasta, the specials, the veal ... all beautifully presented and delicious. My only "complaint"? Don't go starving. The portions aren't meant for growing boys!
Always delicious. Staff pays special attention to detail - food is exceptional, service excellent, and ambience is enjoyable. They always have specials along with their comprehensive menu. They really know food at this restaurant and cook it in a healthy not "oversauced or overdone" . Every aspect of the meal is that good!!!!! Servers are knowledgeable, helpful, and very attentive without being in your face. We have eaten here many times and never disappointed!!
We dined at Il Terrazzo Carmine this past Saturday evening. It was my partner's birthday and we usually celebrate special occasions or evenings there. Why? Although it is excellent in every regard,it is in not way pretentious. The staff are uniformly friendly and accommodating. What makes this restaurant special is : 1) its longevity -still going strong after I've been in Seattle 27 years. 2) creative preparations of fresh fish, pasta and all type of meat 3)a European sensibility which is hard to capture in words 4) a convenient garage next door where the restaurant validates parking 5) the quality of the cooking -nothing is over or under cooked and every morsel is absolutely delicious.
The osso bucco and the veal scallopine were fantastic, and the appetizer of wild mushrooms with polenta very tasty. Minestrone zuppa was beautifully done thick and with vegetables textured great. Nothing mushy. We were too full for dessert but a complimentary tiramisu (anniversary celebration) was too good to leave unbeaten. Excellent Italian wine list. Great service. Validated parking. What more could you want?
This place is a gem -- tucked away and easy to miss, but DON'T MISS IT! It's a beautiful upscale room with white table clothes, yet warm, well lit, and inviting (not stuffy). Servers are top notch career wait staff, charming and professional. And the food is marvelous classic Italian cuisine -- delicious, fresh, large portions, but light and tasty. Perfect for a celebratory business lunch or dinner.
We’ve been coming here for many years. Every single time, we get the same delicious food. On this particluar night, we had the most gracious server we’ve ever had. He was very patient with us, and made everything sound delicious. Save room for dessert! The dessert tray is hard to choose from. With enough people, you might be able to order one of each!
One of the all time best in Seattle for authentic Italian food and one of the only Italian restaurants that still has eggplant parmesan on the menu. Lots of choices and I have actually NEVER had a bad meal. We miss Carmine, but the food has stayed consistently excellent. Most of the wait staff has been around a long time, too, and enjoy working there.
As usual, the food was incredible. I was less than impressed with our waitress. She seemed put off by us and not interested in serving us. We were just a table of two, so possibly she felt that larger groups warranted more attention because the gratuity would be greater? I would not let this one experience stop me from going back. Maybe next time we will have the service that we are used to at this restaurant.
Second time here..... We had dinner reservations at 7:30, decided to show up early (before doors opened) to sit at bar to watch the Apple Cup. We were greeted by very friendly staff that were willing and accepting of our change in plans..... The bartender, Graham was amazing! Definitely will come back.
I love Il Terrazzo! Whether a casual drink and nibbles with a friend, or a celebration dinner, I am always delighted - the food is excellent, the service is awesome an the ambience is the perfect blend of cozy and festive. Worth the visit for the bread alone - it is the best sourdough around!
