About Il Terrazzo Carmine
Il Terrazzo Carmine, owned and operated by Carmine Smeraldo, is one of Seattle's true dining anomalies - a highly successful restaurant with unfailingly high standards and a loyal, sophisticated clientele. The cuisine has been acclaimed as Seattle's best by the media and more importantly, by local diners.
Il Terrazzo Carmine is located in historic Pioneer Square - nestled in an urban-renewed alley with entrances through the vintage lobby on First Avenue or through the delightful courtyard in the back. Since 1984, Carmine Smeraldo's classic Italian restaurant has been where the locals have chosen to return over and over again. From the Carpaccio Di Bue and Spaghettini Dell 'Ortolano for lunch to the Suprema Di Pollo Farcita and Zuppa Di Pesce for dinner you will know you have gone to a place where excellence is a way of life. Arguably the best Italian restaurant in Seattle, Il Terrazzo serves classical Italian cuisine with an atmosphere you may want to call home and never leave

Il Terrazzo Carmine Ratings and Reviews
Second time here..... We had dinner reservations at 7:30, decided to show up early (before doors opened) to sit at bar to watch the Apple Cup. We were greeted by very friendly staff that were willing and accepting of our change in plans..... The bartender, Graham was amazing! Definitely will come back.
I love Il Terrazzo! Whether a casual drink and nibbles with a friend, or a celebration dinner, I am always delighted - the food is excellent, the service is awesome an the ambience is the perfect blend of cozy and festive. Worth the visit for the bread alone - it is the best sourdough around!
Parking was a major challenge as the valet service has been discontinued at least temporarily and because of a football game that night, local parking lots were charging $40 to $70. We managed to find street parking after quite a search. I had counted on the valet service which has been so good in the past. Construction apparently has suspended it out of control of the restaurant.
Service always has been attentive and courteous here. And the food is good.
My wife and I are experienced diners of many years, including the SF dining options. So we are pretty discerning. Bruschetta with Dungenes Crab. Crab was flavorless; seemed like canned crab. Only real flavor was from the overtoasted crusts. The only real flop of the meal. My wife's oysters were very good. My prawn and red pepper bisque was good if with a bit too much tomato flavor. Wife's heart of romaine salad very fresh and flavorful. Our Chilean Sea Bass entres were very well prepared with enough residual moisture thanks in part to a crushed pumpkin seed crust (i would prefer and recommend more flavorful nuts). Velvet cake and Tiramisu were journeyman quality. Wtih one coffee and a glass of wine each, $240 with $40 tip. Maybe not quite as great as the Open Table reviews led me to expect, but still enjoyable for the price. And our server was dead on, there when needed but not annoying. Also knowledgeable. Overall, a solid option.
I went to this restaurant several times 10+ years ago when it first opened. The food, service and ambiance were all top notch. I was a bit disappointed to see that, to an extent, they've become victims of their success. The food and service are still outstanding, but they've packed in so many tables that it's lost a lot of its charm. Just my opinion, but at this price point, I expect a bit more quiet, the ability to easily reach the restroom without bumping into chairs, being drowned out by other conversations etc.
The veal was outstanding, but the clam pasta was bland with no real flavor of garlic or clams. Further, the house pinot grigio had turned bad, although the waiter replaced it with a nice chardonnay. The desserts were excellent. Overall, I was disappointed with a poor pasta which is so easy to make.
Delicious describes this restaurant. The veal ravioli is perfect, the food is beautifully presented and cooked, the ambiance is excellent, the service great. Pricey but very decent Italian food. The wine prices are too high for the quality of wine, but if you get the some of the staff recommend great bottles at decent prices, others lead you to crazy prices that are not worth it. Call it the luck of the draw. Great valet service. Charming ambiance.
Had a great meal. The selections were numerous, the preparation spot on. The service was perfect and the wine options plentiful. While not cheap, it is reasonable for this level of dining experience. This is an excellent place and I will return next time I'm in Seattle.
