Il Posto - Toronto Ratings and Reviews
On an evening when businesses were closing their doors due to freezing rain, we were delighted that this quaint Italian restaurant was open and honoured our Open Table reservation. The owner was a delight - friendly and spot on with his recommendations. I started with the Beef Carpaccio generously sprinkled with fresh grated Parmesan and my spouse had the colourful and flavourful Caprese Salad. For my entree we had the veal medallions Il Posto and veal chop. The portions were perfect and accompaniments were fresh, flavourful presented with creative flair. We didn’t have room for dessert but that didn’t stop us from ordering the chocolate banana meringue cake and a bowl of Amaretto ice cream. We are big fans of restaurants that can serve up traditional recipes with creativity and we were not disappointed. Thank you Sokol and chef for sticking around!
I came here with my family on a Friday evening just as the restaurant opened. The restaurant is set in a very cute area and is quite stylish inside. For starters, we ordered the antipasto and were also provided with complimentary warm bread. We also took advantage of the specials and ordered the carrot/ginger soup, lobster pasta and veal chop dishes. I ordered the spinach and ricotta ravioli, which I thought were good but over-stuffed. Everything was very tasty. The only thing I will say was the waiter was a little odd. He kind of questioned the things we were ordering and two people ordered 3 dishes to share with each other which he found odd.
I’d almost forgotten this restaurant existed but it’s there and still very much the same! Amazing Italian food. Wait staff were very good and then gone! All had different food and it was delicious! Not crowed in fact barely frequented which is an error on diners choices! Come on back to a great dining experience
Il Posto is tucked back into a brick building. The interior is like stepping back into the 80s. I guess it was quite a place then. We were there on a Saturday night and there was only 5-6 tables total. It was a bit depressing. They have a huge patio and I imagine it's popular for outdoor dining. Our waiter was great. He had a good sense of humor and has been there almost since the restaurant opened. I had the veal scaloppini and my husband had pasta. Prices were a bit high considering the atmosphere and food quality.
Our Waiter Pedro was very amicable and a great server, service was very good. Lunch special of pasta with lobster very nice. One piece of lobster was tough but edible.
We ordered veal samba which they made and it is not on menu, they did a great job.
We shall miss the restaurant when they close due to construction.
a quiet gem in Yorkville, under the canopy.
We went as a family with a Groupon just to check it out. The food was okay, nothing special but not bad. Could be a really cute place to eat, especially with the amazing location, it is Yorkville after all. But the decor and ambiance really need updating, the restaurant is so dark and outdated. We were really disappointed. In the end, it is not a lovely place to enjoy a night out, but with some updating it could be.
No thank you - not again. Service was rude. Food was only average - nothing to write home about. A question about Gluten free options for main course and entree was practically spat upon by the waiter/owner even though there was a clearly labeled Gluten free dessert on the menu which belied that the restaurant understood the concept.
But the worst was the pricing. Given one menu as we entered, then charged from another menu - which, when queried, the 'waiter' (as a former owner in the restaurant business I can smell out an owner when I see one)put on the big eyes "Oh, I will have to pay the difference out of my own pocket". Not buying it. From the get go, this place was suspect. Then this? Don't recommend it.
We visited at 8:00 on a Saturday. There were only two other tables occupied, and they left within the first 30 minutes, leaving us to dine along for the remainder of the evening. The staff watched a soccer game in an adjoining room. Service was poor. Food was good, but not a very good value at the high price point. There are many, many better dinner options for fine dining in Yorkville.
Surprises: My friend requested a banana daiquiri; that was not a possibility. The word "vegetarian" is misspelled the three times it is used on the menu, a failing which always devalues the appeal of a restaurant in my estimation. We were not offered a top-up of our coffee, which surprised me, and the coffee itself was nothing special. The most tasty item I had was the dessert. The restaurant has a beautiful setting! It was a pleasant Summerlicious experience.
The ambiance is quite nice. That's what we loved the most and caught our attention right away. We really liked our table and it was not busy at all so we could have our pick.
The service was just so so. We found that he was somewhat informative but was not doing 100%. We had to call him over to take our meal choices even though the menus were closed and sitting at the edge of the table(a universal sign that we are ready to order).
The food was just so so and we were not impressed for this level of restaurant and for an Italian restaurant at that. My partner had the veal which came our cold and I had the mushroom risotto which came out et
We had 2 french martinis which were probably the best things off the menu. We ordered a bottle of red wine, a Malwhich
We have never eaten here before and have always enjoyed other Italian restaurants in the Yorkville area but this was exceptionally good...from the menu to the wine list...to the quality of the food and the exemplary service...all in all a great evening! We will be back.
We were allowed only one time slot through open table but when we arrived it was empty except for another family! The service was attentive, even though our waiter lacked any warmth or personality. We enjoyed our Cesar salad, caprese salads , and salmon and risotto dishes. My pasta w seafood was frustratingly bland however, while my tartufo had cherry sherbet instead of vanilla. All in all , pricey 3.5 star meals .
While I had read a lot of the reviews here to make my decision to book a table for myself and my wife, I really wasn't prepared for how good the food was ! This is a great little find of a resteraunt, slightly off the beaten track through a laneway but well worth the visit.
