We celebrated our 35th anniversary and the staff was fantastic! Even brought us a beautiful dessert and sang to us, very special
Just like in Capri, the food is wonderful, delicious and light. This might be the best Italian food in town - hidden gem. Elisabeth, our hostess, Arnie, Dario and Giovanni our waiters were very attentive. Alfio Rocco, the host and owner - also of Scalinatella - a real Caprese truly knows how to do it - "Come a Capri.."
Great food as always.
Amazing service in this darling neighborhood restaurant. The gnocchi, which the chef made special for us were like little potato pillows. Absolutely delicious. I would for sure go back next time we are in New York!!
You can never go wrong with II Postino. The food is always great, the service is always friendly and knowledgeable. The restaurant has a great vibe and the hostess is friendly and inviting.
We got there and the staff asked us for our order almost before we took our seats. We were trying to make a romantic evening but felt rushed and not welcomed by the wait staff, almost as if we were an inconvenience. I enjoyed the food, though everything was overpriced. The kitchen did a supurb job but the front of the house was full of a wait staff that seemed like they were ready to go home.
Enjoyed the service and staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. The food was excellent and well prepared.
Loveeeee this place Food is great and service wonderful. The kitchen will make you anything you want.
What ruined the experience for me was the service. Service was overlooked, when acknowledged it was poorly timed and rushed, and lastly left me with a very impersonal experience. Should they had stronger service, it would be a great place. The pasta special was delicious, but due to the service, I was eager to leave and did not stay for dessert. I would not recommend this location; prices are high and with high prices come higher expectations. They don't hit the mark for me, no matter how tasty their food may be.
Excellent food!! Wine list was rather pricey.
Best authentic Italian restaurant in NYC. Great food, nice atmosphere, friendly staff.
In general I think that the food in this restaurant is amazing, but their prices are outrages.
As much as I love eating there, we go there only on a very very special occasions.
Stupendous food. Spectacular service.
A bit pricey but well worth it.
Only 1 issue. We were seated directly above a prep area which was not ideal.
Il Postino is a hidden gem in Midtown East. Exquisite Italian cuisine and a wonderful atmosphere for anyone wishing to go to Rome without having to hop on an airplane. The salmon ravioli with pink sauce was some of the best ravioli I've ever eaten, and their tiramisu is divine. This spot is perfect for a date night or just to indulge. I will definitely be back!
We reserved this for restaurant week lunch. We were greeted with a friendly hello and promptly seated. The waiter was friendly and efficient. We had the black spaghetti with seafood it was delicious . I highly recommend this restaurant.
There are some restaurants that should sit out Restaurant Week; their heart isn't in it. When even the breadbasket is downgraded you know that you are being tolerated, not welcomed. My friend found her pasta not quite al dente, my portion of veal was rather small, and the octopus appetizer was so so. Our bill was miscalculated to our disadvantage, and that pretty much sums up the experience. If Restaurant Week is something of an audition for people who are new to the venue, this experience did not impress.
Attended the restaurant for lunch during restaurant week. Portion sizes were fine but food itself was not great. My colleague had the gazpacho which she described as “greasy”. I understood what she meant when I got my entree which was the black linguini with seafood. There was some sort of ingredient used which tasted the same. We both barely touched our meals.
My husband and I went to Il Postino for Restaurant Week qnd really enjoyed the food. I had the Bolognese and it was delicious. My husband tried the black linguini and ittoo was great.
We went to the restaurant to try the Restaurant Week Menu. The food was great. I had the goat cheese ravioli with lamb ragu. I wish there was more food on the plate but it was great. The grilled risotto was wonderful but the cabbage was bitter.
We visited II Postino during restaurant week and I was a little underwhelmed. The dinner portions were extremely small (granted it was restaurant week, but this was more of taste testing sized portion). I had the mozzarella carrozza for my appetizer and the salmon ravioli for my entree. The flavor of both were pretty good, but again, the portions were ridiculously small. The appetizer was one triangle (think grilled cheese sandwich cut into 4 triangles, this had ONE triangle) and the ravioli came with four in the plate and no they were not large. they were barely medium sized. So by the time I started to enjoy the flavors of each course, they were finished and the meal ended up feeling incomplete.
Th servers were quite annoying as they were rushing every course. The restaurant was empty so there was no need for the haste. We actually had to ask them to wait for us to request dessert as they were asking to bring it out as soon as they picked up the 'dinner' plates.
The only thing that saved this dining experience was the atmosphere/decor which is beyond adorable and welcoming. It is like a cute little secret hideaway tucked away in the NYC. I would love to give this place another chance because as I mentioned, the flavor of the food was pretty decent. But I am not in a rush to return in the near future.
The best food. The best ambience. My wife and I will certainly be back again!
We were trying the restaurant during Restaurant Week. The waiter did not bring the special Restaurant Week menu, and when I asked for it, the service became very perfunctory. Hmmmm... I mention this as it impressed me. The food was good and we overall enjoyed.
A nice restaurant with friendly service, but the food was bland and, like so many other restaurants that participate in Restaurant Week, we were treated like a second class citizens after asking for the prefix menu. Why bother participating if you’re not going to treat your guests the same, then serve sub par food and rush them out the door? The whole idea is to draw in new diners who will rave about their experience and come back to spend real dollars. I will not.
The food was good, but the service so brusque that it detracted from the experience.
Went for NYC Restaurant week. Food was good, portion was very small and service was abrupt and a bit rude. Would not go back.
This is a very dated restaurant - the decor and building is not very inviting. The server had stains on his vest, and plates were from the 90s and overall really underwhelming experience.
Went for Restaurant Week 2019 and it felt like we were an inconvenience from the start. We had to request menus after sitting there for 10 minutes watching the staff walk by. One server on quite nice, but the other made his disdain persistently clear despite our being polite and undemanding.
We ordered the eggplant parmigiana and calamari fradiavolo to start, the scaloppini and tagliolini ragu, and the cheesecake and tiramisu. None of the food was terrible, but nothing was great either. Quite lackluster and bland across the board. It felt like the restaurant did not desire to, but was instead obligated to partake in restaurant week and really phoned it in as a result. We won’t be returning and hopefully our other experiences with restaurant week will be far better.
Went for restaurant week....menu choice was good, portions a bit small and deserts really small. Overall a good experience.
Friendly place with lively ambience. Specials are so extensive that there is no point in looking at the menu! Great fish and pasta dishes. Portions are very generous.
Just amazing all around
We had a spectacular meal! The food is fresh with many choices and made to order! Lovely staff and fun environment that is spacious.
Outstanding restaurant! Food and service were top notch!
Lovely service very accommodating - love ELiZABETH
She makes our evening special.
We usually have a much better time at Il Postino. We were expecting quiet night as it was during July 4th holiday. The restaurant had a big party a few tables away. The captain and most waiters focused on the large party, not us. That said, the food was delicious as always. We've had great service before so will try again.
This is about our fourth visit to Il Postino. This trip was just as great as all the others. Simply amazing--service is some of the best I have ever had. We tried several of the specials for the night and all were excellent. We brought friends who had not visited before and they were very impressed. We started with the caprese salad and prosciutto wrapped fig and melon, then had the branzino fish, dessert was the gelato. Highly recommend.
Best Italian I’ve had in New York City, hands down! Feels like you’re in Italy.
Overall good food and service, but ABSURDLY priced everything ($28 tuna tartare was good...but really guys? $28?).
If you are someone who is value conscious, the price is far too high relative to the quality, and it’s high quality. We are not likely to be back.
Excellent food, we both had specials. Servers were great and fun to interact with. Nice ambiance, with front glass wall of the restaurant opened to the sidewalk on a nice summer evening. Only negative might have been the prices, although, given everything else, I didn't mind, as once in a while event. event.
Excellent food - agreeable professional staff -always a pleasure
I travel to NYC a few times a year and make it a point to have dinner at Il Postino. Always great.
