The food here is wonderful, service usually exemplary. My complaint is the wine list. I have a problem with not finding a reasonably priced bottle. We eat out and entertain in the city frequently. Even at some high end restaurants you should be able to find a reasonably priced bottle of red in the $65 - $85 range, not $120 -$150 as a beginning level.

Met my niece here as it was close to my hotel. I'm used to NY (and other major city) prices, but this one was off the chart. A bottle of Proseco, a shared appetizer, pasta and main for 2 = $277. BEFORE Tip. The appetizer was OK, the pasta quite good and the main I didn't taste....sent it home with my niece.

Service was good if a bit aggressive. When I asked the price of a bottle of Proseco (only by the glass was on the menu) there seemed to be quite a bit of confusion. "About $100?"

Not surprised the place was pretty empty - at those prices, who can afford it.

I only expect to pay that price for a Michelin star dinner.

Once again we had a great meal/experience at Il Postino. The little touches of a complimentary small bite before the meal, complimentary biscotti and especially their house-made limoncello after dinner make an excellent meal even better! We were celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary and it was a wonderful evening!

This is one of my frequents, the food is nice, with the newly added fix prize lunch, it become more value sensitive.
However, the service is going down. the waiter just literally drops down knife and fork, no time to put them properly.
That is very bad.

We are from out of town, and this was our second annual visit to Il Postino. The food was great, the service very attentive and the ambiance, while "active," was a delight for out-of-towners.

I have been to many loud restaurants in New York but Il Postino st new standards the other night. Two or three large tables of loud businessmen dominated the place and made it quite unpleasant. I left after a cocktail and management, in fairness to them, was very understanding.

A great evening all around. The Service is very attentive, the food is delicious with appropriately sized portions. We sat near by the opened doors/windows, which made a small space seem much more large and comfortable. It was quiet enough to have good conversation.

The services was impeccable: the waiters truly competent, friendly but not obtrusive. There were some gems on the menu and we'd recommend especially the grilled quid which was about the best I have found in Manhattan. The smoked salmon was completely satisfactory, but nothing special. For mains, the roast veal came in an intriging sauces with delicious musrooms but the meat itself was a bit tough and not tasty. The mussels were whooly acceptable but not on a par with, say, Jubilee, the mussel specialists don the street. The desserts were all wholly acceptable, although the "special" tiramisu disappointed after a build-up from the waiter. We ordered wine by the glass; suitable but expensive.
We came on a Saturday, late lunchtime and were the only diners. We are happy to pay for high quality, innovative food and atmosphere. Il Postino just did not make it this time in that regard.

The restaurant is pretty and open onto the street, so nice for warmer evenings. However, the prices are rather high, albeit the food was good.
It just wasn't sufficiently good enough at those prices to warrant another visit too soon.

We visit Il Postino every time we are in NY. Never fails us as having exceptional food, with attentive staff and a neighborhood environment. The Veal Milanese was probably the best we have ever had a restaurant in NY or anywhere else. We also had branzino cooked in wine, tomatoes and artichoke hearts. A "must" if you enjoy this type of fish.

We were there on a Sunday at 7:00. The service was glacial, the gazpacho was awful (we sent it back), the room was too hot (they had the front open and were not adequately cooling the back). We have been there before and really enjoyed it. After this - and at top dollar- we will not go back.

Unfortunately somewhat disappointed. We are new to the neighborhood and wanted to try the restaurant which has a charming street presence and interior. We went during restaurant week; the food was just OK, for the normal price point I would have assumed quality on par with Il Mulino or similar. Service too was lacking. The restaurant was less than 1/2 full as it was later Fri evening in summer and the staff just did not seem coordinated or attentive. We are glad we tried Il Postino as it had been on our list to explore and agin enchanting dining room and almost al fresco dining yet the food and service we felt were somewhat lacking. May have been an off night, it happens.

A friend and I like to have a celebratory birthday lunch at this time of year, and we are lucky that Restaurant Week is in full swing. I had never been to Il Postino before. Frankly, it's too costly for me, but that's what RW is for, right?

The service was prompt, pleasant and attentive, in no way intrusive. The place was quiet, but I am told it does get a big crowd from the nearby UN, so best to reserve.

For Restaurant Week, we indulged in a three-course lunch. Turned out we wanted to share the first two courses, and they could not have been nicer.

First, sauteed calamari (tender and full of garlic flavor that mysteriously did NOT linger) and a light-as-air-seeming vitello tonnato. Both delicious.

Second, poached salmon (cooked to order) and veal cutlets in a fresh tomato sauce. Both first rate.

I have to mention the grissini and a RW glass of wine for $10.

Nice dessert choices too. In fact, the Restaurant Week selections are outstanding. Really excellent. Not usually my neighborhood (49th and First), but if it's convenient, give it a try.

I rated this restaurant poorly for several reasons. The first reason is the table the hostess picked for my party. The table was next to the bathroom where I notice a peculiar odor that only comes from restrooms. I made a reasonable request for another table and was rejected,. The reason was because it was towards the end of lunch, so most of the tables were getting prepared for dinner. No wonder the place was empty, if the employees can not accommodate new patrons. Then the server was not pleasant, he threw the menus and left without saying a word. Then he came back a few minutes later to take our order, and we asked him for a few more minutes. He showed up about 15 minutes later, it seemed like an eternity. The food came out and it was not tasty, it lack flavor and presentation. It tasted as if it came out of a can or package and that's giving it to much credit. The presentation of the food looked like it was thrown together by a 2 year old boy on our plates. We mentioned our dissatisfaction to the server, but to no avail. He looked confused, like we were speaking in another language . Then for the grand finale, we asked if the dessert had alcohol, and he said no. What do you think happened, the dessert had alcohol. I asked for the check and he took his sweet time. Then we waited about 10 minutes and he did not pick up the check, so I took it to the hostess, because he was too busy on his cell phone. Then I learned a few days later that the restaurant did not notify Open Table that I had eaten there. So i will never recommend this establishment to anyone in their right mind, unless a public apology is made.

Had the pleasure of dining here for a restaurant week lunch and was very pleased by the offerings and preparation of the dishes. Portions were not skimpy at all and there were nice touches like the pasta main course being prepared in the dining room and the wait staff offering complimentary limoncello with dessert. Items like Vitello tonnato and the goat cheese and lamb ragu pasta were superb. There is an extensive wine list with plenty of reasonably priced wines as well as lots on the higher end as well. I'll remember this place the next time I'm looking for a place to dine on the east side in mid town. A true neighborhood find.

We were pleasantly surprised by Il Postino. Most Italian eateries feel pedestrian at this point. Il Postino serves a wide variety of dishes and we were impressed by the flavor, the presentation, the choices and most of all the service. Exemplary and we'll be going back for sure. And take advantage of the Limoncello!!!
