Thoroughly enjoyed meeting our friends at Il Postino. Our table was near the front which had an opened window (more like a panel) with a cool breeze which was perfect. Ambiance was nice and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend and look forward to returning to the restaurant.
A great place for lunch and dinner with great service and excellent food. The interior of the restaurant is very nice, friendly and fresh. They have a good selection of food, drinks and deserts with prices that are reasonable and gives a lot of value for money. I can really recommend this place for business and pleasure.
I went here with my son and we had a marvelous meal. We had to change our reservation time and the restaurant was very accommodating. They never rushed us. Our margaritas were terrific, not too sweet and fortified, the calamari was delicious as was the mussels and clams in sauce. The poached salmon was perfect, not overcooked. nicely seasoned and melt in your mouth delicious. Desserts were excellent. We can't wait to go again.
One of the best price fixe lunches in NYC. Great food with superb service.👌🏼
One of the best italian restaurant . Greatest food and service. On the expensive side
We did the prefix lunch special for $32. The calamari and Portabella mushrooms to start were pretty good. Bread was delicious. The main courses were a disaster. The pasta totally over cooked ,was like mush. The snapper, Maybe they gave you 4 oz and not very tasty. Accomplished by four string beans, small carrot, Small hard potatoe . gelato was tasteless.
I ate here several years ago and thought the food was delicious though very expensive. Today’s lunch was a total disappointment and Clearly the restaurant has gone downhill.
About as close as you can get to the UN and still find decent food. A 3 course lunch for $35 was excellent value. Good classical ITALIAN cooking. Well spaced tables. Oddly difficult to get a proper receipt they wanted to keep the itemised heavy card bill, and I was first offred only the credit card slip. Eventually they produced a poorly photocopied version of the detailed bill I needed. Frustrating after an otherwise good experience
We decided to try Il Postino during NY Resto Week, as it was more expensive than we normally spend for dinner out. It has to be the most delicious Italian food outside of Italy that I have ever eaten! It was a special birthday dinner for a cousin. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals.
As they say, there’s a first time for everything and unfortunately for me this was the first time I had a poor meal here. Maybe it’s my fault for ordering from the summer pre-fixe. Or maybe the restaurant just isn’t what it once was, whatever the case may be the roasted veal w/truffles was a disaster from beginning to end. First, the veal was tough and stringy add insult to injury there wasn’t any truffles in the dish. When I was asked if the meal was enjoyed, I shared my concerns and to my huge surprise nothing further was said or done!! Additionally, my wife’s pasta was good but not great as it once was, Carlo where are you when we need you. Not sure if this issues can be linked to Carlo’s departure but I have a very hard time believing this would have happened if he were still there. “Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!!”
This restaurant is great for a nice quiet romantic meal. The staff was very friendly and cordial. The food was really very tasty, the menu had a nice variety of food and wine.
I knew going in that it would be expensive and I don't have a budget when I come to a restaurant like this. I wanted to see just how good the restaurant was. The bill was absurdly high due to the incredible pricing for additional food/sides/drinks. Don't order "off" the menu and be careful about what drink you are asking for, they won't provide you with a price unless you ask.
We went there for Restaurant Week and had an unpleasant experience, primarily because of aggressive upselling. As we sit down, we are offered an appetizer special for the table before we ever see the menu. We politely declined until we could see the menu which yielded a look of disdain from the waiter. Then we were asked for our wine order, once again before menus. The Restaurant Week menu was actually more varied than many participating restaurants and the food was very good. However, when time for dessert came, once again poor service came to the fore. One of our party wanted fresh berries which turned out not to be on the Restaurant Week menu, so she said she did not want them. When the desserts came, there was a plate of berries. The check came and there was a charge of $26 for one coffee and the plate of berries. When we asked how much were the berries, the waiter said $18.50, maybe $20.50. There may have been 20 berries on the plate. I use Restaurant Week to try out new places to see if I want to return for the full menu. Il Postino was successful in convincing me that I never want to go back there.
The restaurant was great. Unfortunately, they opened the doors, which immediately vocalized the buses passing by, horns, etc. Bus stop is 1/4 block before the restaurant. They were kind enough to lower the very loud music in order to allow my guest and I to hear each other between passing buses. Better to leave doors closed on a hot summer day and be quiet. Lunch was delicious and as always, the waiters were lovely.
We were there for Restaurant Week. I thought the choices were great. Staff was very helpful- didn't rush us thru the meal. I had the veal which was tender and flavorful
Great ambience and friendly service. Menu offers a good choice but is supplemented by a large selection of daily specials. Fish is generally delicious.
We made a 10:00PM post theater reservation during restaurant week. An article on Thrilllist had suggested this restaurant as one of the better Restaurant Week venues. We were sat promptly at a lovely table. The ambiance is beautiful with fresh tomatoes displayed artistically and a cooking station were pasta is prepared and delivered to your table. I have worked in a few restaurants and realize that sometimes, late in the evening even a well oiled machine doesn't run well. The plentiful staff might work well when the restaurant is hopping but they slow down when there are three tables occupied. I feel that is what happened here. There was plenty of staff but we waited for our wine list, then our wine order to be taken. Everyone was very nice though. My friend and I both ordered the eggplant parmigiana and found it to have more cheese than eggplant. I ordered the Roasted Veal in Mushroom truffles sauce. The sauce was very good. The veal was stringy and tough. My friend enjoyed her Tagliolini al Pesto but didn't find it rave worthy. The hazelnut gelato and ricotta cheesecake were wonderful and a great way to end the meal.
"Like going home".
Went here for a business meal with a client and the service was very bad, food was not great, and it was hot inside. Don't recommend at all.
The food is nice, like good home cooking, but does not match the price at all. Place is expensive for what they serve. Service is good and it has a nice old school ambience, if it were a lot cheaper it would get a better rating from me
Excellent food - Excellent service - Overall WONDERFUL!
Great ambiance, attentive service, not too noisy, good food, gluten free pasta, a bit overpriced.
I’ll Postino is the place to lunch if you want to experience how the “other half” lives... leisurely dining in a comfortable and quiet setting slightly off the beaten path in Midtown Manhattan. The price fixe luncheon menu is a very good value offering a nice selection of dishes expertly prepared. The very attentive wait staff is first rate and is readily available to provide recommendations that are sure to please. Highly recommended for a wonderfully luxurious and relaxing dining experience during the day away from the normal Midtown hustle-and-bustle.
Have visited this neighborhood gem 5 or 6 times. Never disappointed. Menu us just a suggestion, they will expertly prepare anything you are in the mood for.
Best food and service in NYC
Simply one of the best. We make a point to visit on every trip to NYC. Food and service are both impeccable.
Have eaten there many times over the years. Seems as though some expertise has been lost in the kitchen. Pasta itself still good and cooked al dente, but clams oreganata, very tiny and tasteless. Then pasta with clams and mushrooms had very unusual taste, both bitter and acidic. Squash blossoms not prepared like they used to be. Now they are like a deep fried mozzarella stick filled with mush. Something I expect from a wings place but not a restaurant of this caliber. Pasta with shrimp perfectly done. A’matriciana good. Ravioli with truffle cream sauce excellent. Parmagiana cheese and prosciutto at beginning of meal great quality. Biscotti at end of meal terrible but they always have been since day one. Wine list with some nice choices but overpriced, though it’s NYC so you accept it. All in all, very uneven meal. Will wait a long while before thinking about going back. Disappointing because used to be such a consistently good experience. Staff lovely, service friendly.
Service was great and the food and wine were delicious.
Very loud and they gave us a quiet table. Great restaurant and staff are very accommodating!
I chose off of their lunch special menu that comprised of an appetizer, an entree and a dessert. One of the best meals I have had in a very long time. Definitely worth a visit!
Only my second time here; thought maybe it would be a favorite of mine--but, no way!!!!! We were so disapponited with/by everything--from reception, to food, to pricing and even billing, too! Indeed, I felt unwelcomed, cheated, and ripped off! I made reservations for a window table but they acted like I was not expected; they tried to seat me where they preferred. The restaurant needs to update its web site and online menu--the cost of the prix-fixe lunch is higher than advertised, and they even had the audacity of affixing a 20% automatic tip to the bill--for a table of two--which is unheard of!!!!! The entrees and desserts were not as the waiter described--way off! I ordered the chicken breast which was supposed to come with mashed potatoes and veggies. The chicken came as a thin cutlet, NOT a breast--and there was no potatoes at all served with it. The entree arrived lukewarm. The dessert was not as promised either. My guest ordered entrees off the prix fixe because the items on the prix-fixe menu, we were told by the waiter, were "small portions." My guest left more than half the entree--it was hardly edible. Most shocking--and unbelievable--was the bill; the bill was not itemized. Thus, there was no way to verify charges against what we ordered and ate. We had no drinks or alcohol but still the lunch bill for two came to a whopping $125 with the affixed 20% tip. This being a business lunch, I did not want to make a stink. Is it too much to expect and receive an itemized bill? Unable to verify the check, and know what was being charged against my credit card for the items supposedly served us), I left the restaurant, feeling cheated, ripped off, and disgusted. Ownership doesn't seem to be around when diners have an unsatisfactory dining experience or are given non-itemized, extravagant bills. How can a restaurant present a check without itemized charges?! Outrageous! If there is a restaurant association to which to complain, I would do so.
Especially nice on a beautiful evening when all the doors are open....:it's almost like eating outdoors !
A hidden gem in NYC!!
We had lunch with a couple of friends there. It was not our first time at this place though as I work in the neighborhood. The food is good. However, the service is always very slow - e.g. 15 minutes to get menus, another 15 to order a drink, etc. In the end, this time, for a party of three they included a 25% tip on the check (of course, we asked to take that tip out). And they also charged $48 for the appetizer size crab salad from their specials - no early warning on that of course (which is $20-25 in any other place in the area). Certainly not coming back to this place for a while.
I hosted a business lunch for 6. Food is authentically Italian, which is a nice change in a sea of "Italian" restaurants. I asked for a quiet table, which was accommodated. Wonderful service. I would definitely return.
by far my favorite restaurant in NYC and i've been bringing friends here for years.
Mario went out of his way to make my guests comfortable and the food and service are first class!
Il Postino would seem to be an elegant, Old World Italian restaurant. But we had to shout to hear each other at our own table, because the shouting at the other tables was so constant that the noise level just kept mounting. The food was really nothing special, which made the high prices insulting. We won't be back anytime soon.
The food was amazing and the service outstanding! We are from Vancouver, BC and celebrated a birthday here eleven years ago. We were so impressed we came back for our 40th Anniversary and so glad we did!
