Food is excellent here. The maitre d/host is not very warm and friendly. No one said anything about my special request through Open Table. I’d said it was my mother’s bday but the host made no mention and of course the server didn’t either since the communication likely never made it to him. Our server overall was terrific! Attentive and overall a genuine person.
Our first time there, but we'll definitely go back. It's in a great location in Old Town Alexandria with a parking garage a few steps away. The service and food were excellent, and the acoustics were perfect for a quiet conversation at our table despite the fact there were many more diners there.
My husband and I went on an impromptu date here. The restaurant is intimate and cozy. I got one of the specials and my husband got the lasagna; both were delicious. Service was prompt and friendly. The prices are what you’d expect from this type of establishment.
If you’re looking for a lovely dining experience in Old Town Alexandria, this is the place! Rustic brick walls, fireplaces on two levels, and a most attentive wait staff set the scene, while excellent Italian food at very reasonable prices completes the picture. I had veal saltimbocca - tender, pounded thin, just the right amount of prosciutto, and blanketed in mozzarella. My wife’s lamb chop special was noteworthy; it was a generous portion done perfectly, slightly charred on the outside and mouth-watering tender inside. Most pastas and entrees come with a house salad, making the meal very affordable.
We were very pleased that both the waiter and maitre d made us feel at home by engaging us in conversation. I’d go back to Il Porto any time I’m in Old Town. Easy to find right on King Street!
A great find in Alexandria's Old Town. Great ambiance and service with a fairly mainstream southern Italian menu. Plenty of choices including enough to appeal to children. A inviting family run feel to this Italian eatery. Worth a visit.
Food was exceptional
Great food, service and moderately priced. Will go back again and again!
The housemade pasta is absolutely delicious, and the desserts all looked good, but I was too full to try one.
Great service and attention to my special request.
Just good food and great almosphere. I would only recommend that if you are not too busy, to slow down service. Our waiter was great but, we were there to just relax and in no hurry to eat right away. We should have mentioned that...the wine and food were fabulous.
Food was fabulous; service was ok
My girlfriend loved the place. We will be back in the future.
Great food, nice atmosphere and attentive service. I would go there again.
It was awesome!!
The food was really good and our waiter, I believe his name was Felipe, was excellent. Perfect place to go for a date night or special occasion.
My husband and I went for Valentines Day. He got one of the “specials”. The food was good but the portion was very small. The menu seemed to be limited and the portions smaller compared to when we were there in December. We were disappointed but will probably try it again.
I've eaten here about a half dozen times over the last 10 years. Always a good experience. Tonight though they seemed a bit rushed to clear our table and see us on our way. We were there early - before 5 pm; hardly any customers in the place. The food came quickly - no problem with that. We finished dessert and I really wanted to just relax a moment and have a cappuccino. But without asking "Will there be anything else," and without notice, the check was quickly put in the table. I didn't even get a chance to ask for coffee. I'm sure they would have brought some but I felt rushed, so we left.
Had dinner here for the first time on Saturday night and it was amazing! From the atmosphere to our waiter to the wine to the food. Perfect from start to finish. We will definitely be back!
We had a window seat which was very cozy and romantic and great for people watching outside on the street. The food was excellent and the service was perfect!
I brought a Singles Dinner Group of 12 to II Porto for Restaurant Week. The food, service, and atmosphere were pretty near perfection. Truly the best lasagna I have ever had. Their Restaurant Week menu did not excite any of us, so we all ordered off the regular menu. That was a bit of a disappointment, but most of us were very happy with our entrees, although the specials were a bit pricey, and not great. All in all, I look forward to coming back.
Lovely atmosphere in beautiful old building in Alexandria. Had the perfect table next to the window with a nicce view of King Street. Would definitely return.
the food was superb! authentic Italian, great apetizers and wines. The ambiance was also authentic italian - -wait staff was fantasctic and attentive.
Food, wine, and service was amazing. Will highly recommend this restaurant to everyone coming to old town
We had a great night. Very polished, subtle, friendly and knowledgeable staff who got everything right and left us alone. No one got down on one knee, told us his name was Justin, and asked how we wanted to "kick things off." It was elegant but unpretentious. Fine dining but not stuffy. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. Classic. Traditional Italian food. Every course was very good-excellent. Nice ambiance. (I'm a food writer, restaurant critic, and have spent a lot of time in Italy.)
Went during Restaurant week, great prices, had exceptional service, food and a relaxing time. Was not crowded, we could have a conversation without competing with the music or other diners.
The food was fresh, hot, and delicious.
Michael was attentive and provided the right amount of service.
The calamari was cooked perfectly and the marinara had a bit of a bite!
The Saltimbuca alla Romana was tender and very tasty.
We went during Restaurant Week and were really impressed with this place. Food was fantastic; I ordered off the special menu (3 courses for $35) and my wife ordered off the regular menu. My swordfish was excellent and her veal, delicious. Great service and atmosphere. Best place we ate on our vacation.
Great spot for an early lunch. The food and service was great.
Great service, with a nice ambience. If there was one thing I would recommend is to turn up the volume on the background music. It was difficult to hear with just normal conversations going on around us.
Pasta was over cooked. Sauces had no flavor. Veal was grisly and meat looked grey.
The antipasto was basically deli meat rolled up. Not impressed at all.
the place was cozy and romantic, calamari was chewy, entree was good , big portion...
Restaurant had a great fire place we sat by and the whole second floor is impressive. Bathrooms are nice and clean.
Restaurant was cold inside, food was bland, Risotto had peppers in it ?? Wouldn't recommend. Service was good but that was the only positive.
The service and food were amazing, will definitely be going back!!
The service was wonderful and they had a nice wine list for decent prices. Overall the food was good Italian, a small step about Olive Garden. Portions were smaller sized for the price. Ambiance was cozy and Perfect setting for a cozy dinner. Great location as well.
So overall nothing to rave about the red sauce was bland. The eggplant was undercooked. The first course salad was skimpy. My ravioli was ok. My wife’s fettuccini alfredo was boring and bland.
Service was awesome Fidel did a nice job.
Great place - whilst service was quick felt too Rushed for new years eve yet there were multiple tables empty as we finished about 8:30 - staff was attentive at all times. Just slow it down a bit to savour Italian cuisine like it should be -
Very good food and a very quaint location. Close to the waterfront in old town Alexandria.
New Year’s Eve
Repeat/returning customer. Always enjoy on New Years Eve. This visit didn't disappoint.
