About Il Porto

Every dish at Il Porto Ristorante in Alexandria, VA is made from scratch, on premise, including our pasta, all fresh, every day! Il Porto Ristorante was established in Old Town Alexandria in 1973. While its roots are traditional Italian, in recent years, there has been a transition to modern cooking techniques led by Chef Miguel, as well as focus on offering a wide range of wines, many by the glass, at a very good value.
Il Porto uses lots of fresh herbs and creative spices and we believe how you butcher the meat, how you grill a vegetable or protein in a particular way, makes all the difference to a dish.

Our dining experience was fantastic. My wife and I ordered the Seafood Special, lobster ravioli with shrimp and scallops and we both considered it to be of the best quality. Overall, we believe our evening to have been one of our best dining experiences. The service was excellent, especially from our server, Terek, who took great care of us. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Everyone should try Il Porto!!! As always, we had another great experience at Il Porto. They went of their way to comfortably accommodate 6 of us for a nice Fathers' Day dinner. Great ambiance, food, and wine. The server was very attentive and timely - and they do not try to rush you out the door. This is the only restaurant that seems to connect well with Open Table reservations. We had such a great and memorable evening with friends who raved about Il Porto after they left and would come back again. The best restaurant in Old Town!

We chose this restaurant because we could make a reservation for a party of 8 and the reviews were good. So glad we did. The food was outstanding and the ambiance was really nice. Everyone really enjoyed their dinner and the service was outstanding.

The seating at a unsuitable table started what was supposed to be a special outing for two couples, on a somewhat negative note. However, the food was excellent and the service once seated was attentive and professional. The upper dining room was quiet and had a good atmosphere.

Wonderful experience. Kids enjoyed the various pasta they had and adults enjoyed a selection from the specials menu. Great calamari and even the kids tried the escargot.

Our daughter was celebrating her 21st birthday and chose Il Porto (where we've dined as a family many times before). As always, the entire evening was outstanding. Our waiter, Kevin, was exceptional--very pleasant and helpful. I had the salmon special covered in crabmeat and lobster sauce, which was delicious. Everyone (8 of us!) all enjoyed their meals, which included the filet mignon special, scallopini alla saltimbocca (one of my favorites), fettucine alfredo, chicken piccata and pasta arogosta. All delicious. Wine was superb, and they surprise our daughter with a piece of tiramisu, singing "Happy Birthday" as they delivered it to the table. A splendid evening. I lived in Naples, Italy for three years ... this is authentic Italian dining at its best.

We had guests for the week and chose Il Porto for one of our dinners. One of us was in a wheelchair and the restaurant was very accommodating. We sat at a table in the front of the first level, so we had a nice view of King Street and could people watch easily. The staff was very nice and the food was wonderful. Everyone was happy.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Escargot appetizer, perfect, light and tasty. Try the Lobster Ravioli (special certain days); the best I have ever eaten, light sauce and infused with petit scallops. Wait staff is terrific. Lydia/Richmond VA

We were celebrating a friends' 70th birthday and it was our first time at Il Porto. A very nice, cozy restaurant and the food was delicious.
I was a little disappointed in that the incorrect menus were on the table when we arrived. Two of the six arrived before 4p and the remaining 4 arrived shortly thereafter. We ordered from the lunch menu and since the remaining 4 arrived after 4p, we were charged the dinner prices. When the manager apologized that since 4 arrived after 4p, he would have to charge the dinner prices. For customer satisfaction, I think he should have just given us the lunch prices, however since it was a group and we were celebrating her birthday, no one voiced their opinion, but disappointed. Next time, we will probably go to one of the other restaurants. There were 3 or 4 Italian restaurants on the block.

The food was good and a good value, and the service was friendly but not overly attentive. Didn't quite go the extra mile… Couldn't divide the dishes we were sharing in the kitchen, and returned our used silverware rather than replacing for the next course. Breadbasket lined paper rather than cloth. Little things that keep it from being better .

We had another great experience at Il Porto. Food was great, particularly the Seafood special and the service was top notch. Manager even apologized for not getting over to the table to wish us a happy anniversary...totally unnecessary from my perspective but a very nice gesture.

My husband and I go there for old times sakes. We used to live in Springfield in the late 70s and used the airport a lot, so we often combined an airport trip with dinner at Il Porto.

Excellent selection, excellent service, excellent food in a nice quiet atmosphere! my only issue - the bathroom was on the second floor, up a very long, steep staircase. I'm assuming there must be a handicap bathroom somewhere on the first floor, but it was not offered. OTOH, I didn't ask. I can do the stairs, just prefer not to.

We've been coming here for years and we haven't had a bad meal yet. The sauces are so delicately flavored, clearly influenced from northern Italy and France. The poultry and seafood dishes are always a good choice.
