Il Porto uses lots of fresh herbs and creative spices and we believe how you butcher the meat, how you grill a vegetable or protein in a particular way, makes all the difference to a dish.
Great Italian restaurant...classic atmosphere, very good food & service. We wood definitely return!
Even though we forgot to count our twin infants in our party count, the staff did what they could to squeeze us in on an especially busy night (holiday boat parade night, restaurants were fairly packed). Food was delicious, good service - will definitely be returning.
Went for anniversary, very busy but it was on a night there was a Xmas party of some sort, food was delicious , I got gnocchi with salmon, extremely garlicky but very good, would go again for nice occasions
Love Il Porto been going since the early 80’s but I had a reservation and we were sat right up on the entrance landing by the very busy very cold front door. It was a very busy night, lots going on in Old Town but for people with reservations I expect a better table. Otherwise, it was fantastic as usual!
Il Porto is a very charming restaurant with great Italian food. Each of our pasta dishes was outstanding!
We were sat in a tiny cramped nook adjacent to the EMPTY dinning room. The noise in the small space was terrible. The guests at the nearby table were so close that we literally bumped elbows. Reminded me of being on the Metro at 5PM, only worse. Could not enjoy the food for the terrible seating. Congratulations Il Porto, you managed to mimic the awful experience of public transportation at rush hour in your restaurant.
Perfect, as always!
Always great food at a decent price point. Highly recommended for special occasions or just everyday dining.
Not outstanding, but very good. My fetticcine was so-so, others in my party had better luck with their choices. Great atmosphere, quiet and excellent service. I'd go again.
I was out to dinner with three of my friends who were all celebrating birthdays. Each one raved about their various pasta dishes and said it was one of the best meals they've had in a long time. I highly recommend you try Il Porto if you haven't already and that you go back again if you have. (I accidently put 1s instead of 5s . . . fixed that.) Loved the food, service and ambiance!!
Hi Barbara! Thank you for the review. It sounds like you had a great experience but it seems as if you accidentally rated us 1 star instead of a higher review. 1 stars are typically given when an establishment does not meet the expectations of a client, but your review sounds like you enjoyed your experience. We just wanted to bring this to your attention to ensure that the information is correct. Thank you!
Very nice vibe. Excellent service.
This was our first time visiting. I had the special. Steak with risotto. The risotto was good but the steak was very thin and over cooked for $30.00 something dollars. The wait staff was great.
We celebrated my father’s 87th birthday and thanks to the amazing service & fabulous food, it was a perfect event!
I sat at the bar, which is not really a bar but was fine. The guy that waited on me was horrible. It was like he never served food before. I asked for a fra diavlo sauce and he said it would be ok. My meal was served with the cream sauce that was listed on the menu. It was like I never asked or he never knew about a different sauce. They did remake the dish and it was fine.
Hi Jake! Thank you for leaving us a review. We apologize for the confusion behind your visit. The bartender who took your order was confused with your order thus resulting in this mishap. This is not an excuse and we apologize for the inconvenience this caused. We are happy that you ultimately received the meal that you desired and in the future these miscommunications will not occur.
Went for Anniversary dinner. Table was ready right away. Veal was excellent. Able to make plenty of items GF friendly so my girlfriend did not have to worry. Will visit again when in area.
Excellent food and service and price was good also.
Another great experience and meal at Il Porto.. Rocky is our favorite server. we always visit when in town. Thank you Freddy and Rocky for another great evening
Food was very good first time dining here
Always great food and service. Cozy atmosphere, especially next to the fire. Never disappoints!! Highly recommend!!!
My seafood dish was excellent, my wife’s lasagna, while good was lukewarm at best in the center. They were out of a ravioli entree one of our friends ordered, the denied me the homemade cheesecake, for the same reason. Service was somewhat lacking. Iser was personable enough, and very informative, yet we still had to ask for drink refills.
The place itself is quite nice and cosy but the food is overpriced. Was expecting better food.
My husband and I enjoyed our experience at Il Porto for our first anniversary dinner. The food was fantastic but be prepared to pay for it. It was totally worth it!
We absolutely loved I’ll Porto and when back in the area we will go again. They were busy since it was the night before marine corps marathon yet our server was amazing and accommodated requests. The food was phenomenal!
Best pre-MCM dinner!!! Everyone enjoyed dinner and service! Wonderful experience!
Our waiter Fidel was so accommodating with our kids and certain dietary restrictions. The food was amazing, the wine was delicious. Overall it’s always our fave place to eat in Old Town
FANTASTIC ITALIAN RESTAURANT! Highly recommend eating here. We celebrated my sons birthday and the food /service exceeded my expectations. Our waiter was very polite and attentive. He told me he had been a server there for over 30 years! Wow .... thank you for an outstanding dining experience!!
Old standby in Old Town Alexandria. Nothing inspired, but reliable.
This ended up being one of the worst service experiences I have ever had. We waited for 35 minutes to see a waiter, who only showed up after we asked the host if we could order. When we saw the waiter we asked for bread, which came after being seated for more than an hour. The food came after being in the restaurant for more than an hour and a half, and more than an hour after we ordered. The server blamed being busy with other tables and didn’t apologize until it was time for a tip. Even then, it wasn’t an apology, but rather a “thank you for waiting.” The fettuccine alfredo was soup (we took a video and wish I could post it) and the rest of the dishes were cold to lukewarm. When the host/ manager Fredy was told about the bad service he blamed us and said we should have told him before. We told him on three occasions that our waiter kept forgetting about us. The restaurant wasn’t full but even if they are too busy, don’t seat who you can’t serve. We had reservations and were hoping to entertain out of town friends with a good meal, instead it turned into a two hour nightmare with bad food and terrible service.
We apologize you did not enjoy your experience but management did try to resolve these issues. We allowed you to sit upstairs on a weekday which is usually never done and moving added to your wait time. Once you told us that you wanted bread we brought you two loaves within minutes. You did not complain about the meal until after you had paid, so we could not give you a discount. Our manager gave you his information and said that if you returned that he would make up for what had happened.
We really enjoyed the light jazz trio on Sunday night. Everyone’s food was excellent and the restaurant was most accommodating to a wheelchair patient with us.
Very cute restaurant and food was good if you’re looking for some Italian. Service did take almost 30 minutes to greet us though and it took over an hour from when we sat to finally get our food.
For an allegedly authentic italian restaurant, the food was only passable. The red pasta sauce was basically chunks of tomoatos with little flavor. The side of broccoli was steamed, no oil or garlic or even salt. Just plain. The chicken was decent. The manicotti was only ok. The staff is not italian. Not sure the chef is either!
Thank you for leaving us a review! We take pride in serving quality meals and we take it very seriously when a customer is unpleased, so thank you for bringing this to our attention. We apologize that your meal was not up to our usual standards, and we have spoken to the kitchen about your experience. We will ensure that these mistakes are never repeated, and we hope that we can have the honor of you dining with us again in the future.
wait staff was on top of everything and did a great job
Beautiful interior and the food was good.
Great food, wine, service and atmosphere. Good place for celebrating my daughters birthday.
Best Italian in Alexandria!
It was a special occasion, my daughter and her fiancé were choosing their wedding venue in Alexandria. We met them at ll Porto to review their choices. We had reservations at 6:30 and were seated right away. Our server, Kevin was attentive but not obtrusive. Drinks and bread arrived quickly. My wife and daughter ordered the eggplant parmesan, my future son in law ordered the chicken parmesan and I ordered the veal scallopini. The meals were delicious and ample. By the way I am 100% Italian. This was good!
The calamari appetizer comes with a really good, fresh marinara sauce. The saltimbocca alla romana is spectacular and a good portion size. The pollo siciliano was also very good and came with a healthy side of pasta! The ambience is really cute and rustic with plenty of space upstairs. Great for a date night!
Excellent service and great food. So glad we tried it! Great ambiance. Not too loud, yet fun!
Brother and sister-in-law visited us from Seattle. After a day of touring them in WA DC, experienced another great meal at Il Porto.
No frills kind of dining. Good food, good service, great atmosphere and good prices. A classic restaurant.
