Il Porto uses lots of fresh herbs and creative spices and we believe how you butcher the meat, how you grill a vegetable or protein in a particular way, makes all the difference to a dish.
I find that Il Porto is always a warm friendly place for an excellent meal. The homemade pasta is YUM!
Always excellent and one of my favorite places. Food was wonderful. But service was not good on Sunday. I am going to assume it was an off-night and most definitely will be back.
A quaint restaurant with great food. At first we were being seated at a very small table(for 3), but I asked for bigger and we were moved upstairs. Service was good, but could’ve been more attentive.
Wonderful food and exceptional service! A real gem in Old Town.
Excellent meal. Tariq did an excellent job. Will be back again!
My wife and I have been dining at Il Porto for many years. It remains our favorite Italian restaurant in the Washington area, and our preference for celebrating special occasions.
We brought grandpop in a wheelchair and a 10-month old and the staff made us comfortable enough to enjoy a leisurely lunch. The food was excellent. The crispy flounder was a stand-out, but everything was delicious!
Went rightvwhen they opened. Had the whole restaurant to ourselves. Awesome food!
Magnificent in every regard. The waiters are long time employees. The chicken marsala is mouth watering. The atmosphere is terrific.
Excellent service and food just like always!
Service was excellent. I rated less than 5 stars because the spaghetti sauce is bland and flat tasting.
I may be biased because I prefer marinara. Bread warm & fresh. Salad fresh. Overall it was still a wonderful experience and i recommend it.
Haven’t been in over 8 years. Visiting from out of town. We were not disappointed at all. Food is uniformly excellent! So glad we remembered to dine at Il Porto on this trip to town.
Great food, and service was unrivaled. One of our go-to spots when I’m the area.
Wonderful seafood dishes! Service was great, very friendly staff, and the wine was devine.
It was just okay, not worth writing home about — no wow factor!
Third time at Il Porto and each time has been delicious, with great service, not stuffy and an inviting atmosphere. The manicotti, the penne pasta with sausage, the veal scallopini is outstanding.
Will return in the future.
This restaurant has the best quality. Food were so fresh and nice.
Went for my son’s 23 rd bday. Food was delicious. Beautiful interior but poor ambience. No music and a waiter blabbing in Spanish the whole time with a table near us. I’d rather have heard some Italian at an Italian restaurant but truly a nice and quiet with soft music would match the decor better.
Our server was very non responsive. Several times I had to ask another server to find him.
Won't be back.
Love Il Porto - have been going here for more than 5 yrs for special occasions and date nights.
Homemade - delicious food- relaxing environment
Loved our meal my favorite Italian place, authentic, lived in Italy 6 months!
It was awesome! Great food and wine!
Nice cozy restaurant, love the atmosphere, service, and the food is everything
Very noisy place. Food was decent but not spectacular. Service was good. Menu could use some more side options. Only 3 choices! And the entrees are just a plate of meat. Also way too much seafood on the menu. Can't even get a piece of fish that isn't stuffed with seafood.
Good was superb. Our favorite place for dinner!!!
Delightful waiter with personality to spare. Knowledge of the menu, humor and efficiency in service. Food was out of this world. The atmosphere was difficult because it seemed they crammed a few extra tables in to make all reservations for Valentine’s Day. Several larger guests were forced to squeeze through to seats bumped up against each other. I’ll go back and absolutely will share Il Porto with friends and family.
Service was pressured with time. There were limited vegetarian options.
The food was outstanding. I had chicken Marsala and my wife had veal piccata
We loved our visit at Il Porto, from the set up to the service, everything was beyond our expectations! We can't wait to dine here again!
Always enjoy our dining experience, server seemed overwhelmed and sure what he was doing
restaurant has nice old style brick decor inside. Restaurant has two levels. Our waiter was kind and gave timely service. The butter they serve with the bread is sweet. The veal parmigiana was generously served. Overall it was a nice meal, romantic yet casual and good for a date night
I love the food at Il Porto but the diet coke is always flat and tastes horrible. If you could look into this that would be great. Thank you!
Beautiful Italian restaurant in Old Town with outstanding food and service. Was perfect for a date night. Il Porto has been an Alexandria stanadard for awhile and it’s easy to see why.
Great food service was a littler slow but acceptable.
Il Porto is fabulous. Te service is always "spot on", the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is a welcome respite in the middle of a busy shopping area. This restaurant has never disappointed.
Husband and I had dinner at Il Porto for his birthday very recently. The restaurant is in a very quaint old row home in old town Alexandria, and the ambience was very nice. The service was outstanding. The waiter was extremely attentive, and each course came out with precise timing. The bread was excellent. We had calamari, which was probably the best food item we had that night. Although it was just the rings, they were of good size and perfectly cooked, and the coating was wonderful. Husband had the seafood pasta, which had a lot of seafood in it and a red sauce. I had the veal scallopini and fettuccine Alfredo. Both were accompanied by an unremarkable side salad. While the food was satisfactory, it unfortunately nothing outstanding. The veal was not as tender as I had hoped, though it was not tough. My husband said that while there was a abundance of seafood in his pasta, the pasta and sauce itself was not particularly flavorful. Overall, IL Porto is worth four stars,
Awesome service with great, fresh food and attention to details. Full bar and good wine list. We all loved it!
The ambiance is nice. We had made reservations way in advance and when we arrived at 4:00 pm, there wasn't that many people inside, and they wanted to squish our group of 4 in the corner at a table that was meant for 2 people. And that table was squished against the wall and there was another table with people next to it. I just found it odd that no one was inside the restaurant and they felt the need to make us uncomfortable. Dinner was great and the service was great. For 4 people, it was $150 and only included 1 glass of wine, no appetizers and no desserts. Gulp! We won't go back bc of the price.
