Il Porto uses lots of fresh herbs and creative spices and we believe how you butcher the meat, how you grill a vegetable or protein in a particular way, makes all the difference to a dish.
Went for my son’s 23 rd bday. Food was delicious. Beautiful interior but poor ambience. No music and a waiter blabbing in Spanish the whole time with a table near us. I’d rather have heard some Italian at an Italian restaurant but truly a nice and quiet with soft music would match the decor better.
Our server was very non responsive. Several times I had to ask another server to find him.
Won't be back.
Homemade - delicious food- relaxing environment
Loved our meal my favorite Italian place, authentic, lived in Italy 6 months!
Nice cozy restaurant, love the atmosphere, service, and the food is everything
Very noisy place. Food was decent but not spectacular. Service was good. Menu could use some more side options. Only 3 choices! And the entrees are just a plate of meat. Also way too much seafood on the menu. Can't even get a piece of fish that isn't stuffed with seafood.
Good was superb. Our favorite place for dinner!!!
Delightful waiter with personality to spare. Knowledge of the menu, humor and efficiency in service. Food was out of this world. The atmosphere was difficult because it seemed they crammed a few extra tables in to make all reservations for Valentine’s Day. Several larger guests were forced to squeeze through to seats bumped up against each other. I’ll go back and absolutely will share Il Porto with friends and family.
Service was pressured with time. There were limited vegetarian options.
We loved our visit at Il Porto, from the set up to the service, everything was beyond our expectations! We can't wait to dine here again!
Always enjoy our dining experience, server seemed overwhelmed and sure what he was doing
restaurant has nice old style brick decor inside. Restaurant has two levels. Our waiter was kind and gave timely service. The butter they serve with the bread is sweet. The veal parmigiana was generously served. Overall it was a nice meal, romantic yet casual and good for a date night
I love the food at Il Porto but the diet coke is always flat and tastes horrible. If you could look into this that would be great. Thank you!
Beautiful Italian restaurant in Old Town with outstanding food and service. Was perfect for a date night. Il Porto has been an Alexandria stanadard for awhile and it’s easy to see why.
Great food service was a littler slow but acceptable.
Il Porto is fabulous. Te service is always "spot on", the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is a welcome respite in the middle of a busy shopping area. This restaurant has never disappointed.
Husband and I had dinner at Il Porto for his birthday very recently. The restaurant is in a very quaint old row home in old town Alexandria, and the ambience was very nice. The service was outstanding. The waiter was extremely attentive, and each course came out with precise timing. The bread was excellent. We had calamari, which was probably the best food item we had that night. Although it was just the rings, they were of good size and perfectly cooked, and the coating was wonderful. Husband had the seafood pasta, which had a lot of seafood in it and a red sauce. I had the veal scallopini and fettuccine Alfredo. Both were accompanied by an unremarkable side salad. While the food was satisfactory, it unfortunately nothing outstanding. The veal was not as tender as I had hoped, though it was not tough. My husband said that while there was a abundance of seafood in his pasta, the pasta and sauce itself was not particularly flavorful. Overall, IL Porto is worth four stars,
Awesome service with great, fresh food and attention to details. Full bar and good wine list. We all loved it!
The ambiance is nice. We had made reservations way in advance and when we arrived at 4:00 pm, there wasn't that many people inside, and they wanted to squish our group of 4 in the corner at a table that was meant for 2 people. And that table was squished against the wall and there was another table with people next to it. I just found it odd that no one was inside the restaurant and they felt the need to make us uncomfortable. Dinner was great and the service was great. For 4 people, it was $150 and only included 1 glass of wine, no appetizers and no desserts. Gulp! We won't go back bc of the price.
We had a lovely meal at Il Porto. Our only complaint was the location of our table. It was located immediately after the reception desk, a quick step down to lower dining room. Much of the draft from the front door would get sucked into the restaurant and hit us directly at table level. We used menus and a coat over the rail to block the cold. Thankfully guest arrived to occupy the table above us to further block the cold. Additionally, the table is a small semi-circle, not ideal for 3 guests (which we had). We did make our reservation well in advance so I can only imagine the staff feels it is amble room for 3. Well it is not. Otherwise the food was outstanding, we had a few bumps with our order but our waiter was able to resolve or accommodate quickly. Yes, well worth the visit, just don't get seated at tables directly by door or the one immediately after the step down to the left during colder months or with more than 2 guests during warmer months. I understand the food review is most important, but guests must be physically comfortable to dine and enjoy a delicious meal. We intent to return to Il Porto but with specific seating preferences stated.
The food was amazing. The service was great. They first sat us at a table near the door. It was cold. We ask them to move us. They moved us to a much better spot that was much warmer and just perfect!
The service and the food was excellent. Very nice place and well worth it.
Service was excellent. Food Devine
First time here, excellent!! Definitely returning.
A favorite to return to--- delicious food, good menu, and Italian favorites!
Great overall experience at il Porto! Staff was friendly and food was excellent. I loved that their portion sizes were just right. Their Lobster Ravioli special was fantastic! We will definitely be going back.
Great food—bread, pasta and tiramisu were all homemade, fresh, and incredibly flavorful. Restaurant week menu was a great value and great way to taste appetizers, entrees, amd desserts dor our first visit. Atmosphere was really nice; the restaurant was cozy and quiet, perfect for a special occasion or, like us, two friends catching up and enjoying a long conversation. Great service, and I’ll definitely be back for the food.
Excellent! Great food, service, ambiance, couldn't have asked for more. It was a cold evening so the cozy fireplace that we sat right next to was fabulous. I'm a spaghetti and meatballs person, and it was delicious, but all the other dishes sounded really good too. No complaints from anyone at our table. Will be sure to go back soon!
The BEST tuna I have had. It looked like a steak. Cooked to perfection and the taste out of this world.
Just another restaurant in Old Towne that is just geared to tourist so they are not worried about food quality, because they know those customers won't be back away
Food was excellent as was the service. Our only complaint is that the table provided for a party of three was very small and the seating was cramped.
Il Porto is one of my neighborhood favorites. Wonderful food, especially the eggplant parmigiana. Good service and friendly staff.
We went in early January for a late lunch on a weekday. It was very quiet which made conversation very nice. And we had our choice of seating - small table by the fireplace. The service was attentive and informative. The food was delicious. In particular, the eggplant parm, which the waiter recommended over another dish, was outstanding - crisp thin eggplant lightly sauced with choice of pasta beneath. The house-made tiramisu was the lightest we have ever eaten, melt in your mouth. Lunch portions are generous.
They had a minor problem with their phone system/WiFi which made contacting them a bit of a problem, but so glad that we persevered. We will be back!
We went here to celebrate a 35th birthday and Il Porto did not disappoint! The food was fresh and delicious, and the ambiance was absolutely perfect! The staff is friendly and provides excellent service!!! Can't wait to go back again soon.
Great Italian food, great service and great ambiance.
Usually love the fettuccine Alfredo but this time wasn’t as good. Lacking any flavor and the sauce was wayyyy too watery. Hopefully they will get it right next time.
We were in a back room which was uncomfortably warm, but the food was great!
Repeat customer. Standards of excellence maintained year after year.
Went for NYE dinner with friends. Il Porto is our "go to" restaurant for great food and service, especially for comfort food on special occasions. Whatever you like in Italian cuisine, they have it and they do it well.
