Flavorful preparations of good Italian food with capable service. Prices surprisingly on the high side for this type of place.
Wine and beer only. Enjoyed the pasta bolognese.
il Piatto has new menu items and they're great. I had the pot pie appetizer with soft shell crab. Delicious! Also, the new special wedge salad was scrumptious. And, as always, the gazpacho was wonderful. We also had great service from a friendly staff. Thank you, il Piatto!
A favorite. Came with friends for lunch
We did not feel that the food, atmosphere and service warranted the prices.
Enjoyed another visit to IL Piatto recently for dinner. The dining room and bar area are comfortable with expected noise level based on crowd size. We were able to enjoy the background music without distractions from others. Our Server was punctual, helpful and VERY welcoming! We enjoyed appetizers including one on the nightly specials menu and opted for Eggplant Parmesan entrees, which were artfully prepared and presented. The only minus here was both entrees could have been hotter and/or the plates warmed to maintain temperature. The restaurant has a pleasantly rustic Italian farmhouse decor and the service is excellent! We weren't rushed thru our meal, and did receive consistent attention from the Staff. I believe Patrons here are valued and made to feel that way, as there are many other dining options available in Santa Fe. Would definitely recommend this establishment for those looking for a comfortable and delightful dining experience!
Delicious, but overpriced and service is just ok.
As always, a favorite local spot and an exceptional dining experience!
We knew the dinner would be good, but the evening far exceeded our expectations. Fabulous food and fantastic service - a night to remember!
Pasta Bolognese with a gluten free substitute (in this case, a spaghetti squash) was extremely tasty. Mary's Chicken was also imaginatively prepared and delicious - with leftovers to take home. All waitstaff was most pleasant, though service was a bit slow. Overall, a very good experience, though wines by the glass are too expensive, in our opinion.
Il Piatto is still one of the best restaurants around in northern New Mexico. The food is superb, the service excellent, and the ambiance is low-key elegance. This is a great family restaurant (for older kids) and we felt part of the Santa Fe Plaza neighborhood.
It can be 'expensive' but it was worth it. The dishes were top-notch and we came away stuffed. The 4 of us had the crab special, spaghetti bolognese, the roasted chicken, and the saltimbocca entrees. The garlic bread that was served this evening was extremely tasty. We also shared 2 different mushroom appetizers and a huge caesar salad (with real anchovy filets). The wine list had many nice choices and the 'by the glass' options were great, which was what we chose.
Best of all, our waiter and the rest of the staff were perfect in their timing. We did not have to wait long for our dishes and we had a very pleasant evening. If you are looking for an upscale restaurant with great food, this is the place in Santa Fe. We will be back...
The food was excellent as well as the wait staff. We were seated at the very back table by the bar so the noise was t a high level. I would recommend the restaurant but would ask for a table nearer the front if you're looking for a date type dinner.
We ate at Il Piatto on Wednesday night. Turns out Wednesday night is half price wine by the bottle night. Any bottle .... We had a very nice bottle of Brunello at a price you don't normally find in a restaurant.
We shared the clams diablo. Very good. Main was Gnocchi with mushroom marsala cream sauce and ruby trout wrapped in prosciutto.
From the minute we sat down we were ignored by our waiter, he brought the dessert menu prior to our entree, didn’t clear the table when he again brought the dessert menu, never checked on us once throughout our meal, the $36 Branzino special was all skin, no fish, the broccolini was salty, cold and lacked flavor. We would never return and will not recommend this restaurant.
The whole leaf Caesar salad was fresh and flavorful. The parpadelle paired perfectly with the duck ragu which was very flavorful and loaded with chunks of duck. The squid ink spaghetti was a bit bland but came with a large quantity of well-prepared baby calamari. Pastas are available as appetizers and as entrees. With salad and dessert, the appetizer portion would have sufficed, especially since we were not in a position to take leftovers home. The chocolate mousse was a winner - dark, rich, and creamy. We were glad we made a reservation, because the restaurant was packed by the time we left. Our waiter was not very attentive, possibly because he was at the end of his shift. Before we ordered dessert, he let us know that he would be leaving and gave us the name of the person who would take over our table. His replacement stopped by just a few minutes later, introduced himself and there was a smooth transition.
Weekend get away. Had a wonderful dinner. Excellent service and a very good wine list. Highly recommend this place
Do not go there. Very disappointing. It's not Italian. No idea how they got awards. Don't order the "eggplant parmigiana" unless you want an overly fried piece of ricotta cheese. Flavorless and eggplantless. The spaghetti bolognese was watery with chunks of fatty meat. Not like any bolognese i've ever had. The mussels were good, but at $14 for 6 mussels, no thanks.
My husband kept raving about the food- unprompted. Chef Matt was the consummate host and clearly takes pride in creating every dish. Visually stunning presentation, balanced flavors and textures, and bountiful portions. Coupled with Jamie’s astute wine pairings, this was food nirvana.
The kitchen carries this restaurant. The pumpkin ravioli is always excellent. The desserts are creative, the bread pudding being the best ever, like flan but enough like bread pudding to put Commanders Palace to shame. Wait staff is tardy and insufficiently attentive and the consistency of this shows it’s a management problem.
Try the mushrooms....there are so many varieties on their menu! SUPERB! Happy hour is a great value and wines all wonderful. Our favorite Italian restaurant in Santa Fe.
The service dragged a little bit at the beginning. Our waiter had at least one too many tables. I like the growing practice of having a runner bring the food from the kitchen when it is ready. Everything arrived nice and hot. The morel mushroom appetizer was delicious
Good italian food and not too expensive. Portions were moderate in size. Not a great variety. No gelato
This is always a favorite of ours. The service was a little slow because there was a rush, but they honored the happy hour prices since it was a delay from our server. Food is excellent. The new chicken pot pie on the menu is THE BEST! Always good fish!
A wonderful surprise restaurant. And the perfect way to end our visit to Santa Fe. My compliments to the chef. The cuisine was outstanding. Reminded us of one of the beautiful restaurants we visited in Sedona.
Great evening at Il Piatto. The service is always great as is the food. My wife and I enjoyed it as always. My wife is vegetarian and there are good options for her. They had an artichoke special veggie appetizer but it would also be great if they had a special daily veggie option for dinner. We go there a bit and she has had all the veggie meals a few times.
Not as good as we had expected. Our salad special was disappointing. My wife didn’t like her entree. They had run out of the special she had wanted. My Branzino was good. Our friends enjoyed their meals.
We have loved and frequently patronized Il Piatto since it first opened over 20 years ago, but alas, our meal on May 26 was a disappointment. The service was friendly but distracted--we finally had to ask for bread after being seated for a while. We asked for San Pelligrino but were given a brand x water that we'd never heard of.
We chose not to have wine, but it came anyway and we had it removed. My husband's Caesar salad was pleasant but my pot pie appetizer was soggy and without flavor. The pasta was a mixed bag. My husband enjoyed his spaghetti but the signature pumpkin ravioli I've loved over the years has gone down hill. It was tough and drowning in too much butter. Fortunately, the strawberry/rhubarb tart and espresso were good. I feel, though, like my beloved restaurant has lost its mojo. Because of the price I can no longer recommend it as a good value.
The meal was really great. The happy hour deals help a bunch. A must if you are in Santa Fe.
The food was very good, the service was excellent, and the prices were appropriate. All four of us have been dining country-wide at some of the best restaurants, and agreed that Il Piatto was at or near the top Italian restaurants we have experienced. A very nice time was had by all.
Waiter had to be asked to bring bread and later had to be asked to refill water glasses. When asked about items on the menu and wine list he was condescending. But the food is worth dealing with a rude waiter.
We were fans of Il Piatto a few years back, but when my favorite dish (gnocchi) disappeared, it fell from favor. But when a visit from out-of-town guests brought us back to the Il Piatto table, we were very happy to see old favs on the menu, along with new temptations. Four diners tasted four different dishes and all were pleased to say the least. The gnocchi with mushrooms and creme sauce were excellent! Our server was right on point as well -- friendly and efficient, but not hovering or rushing. We were with old friends and wanted to enjoy a few minutes of lingering over the meal, and we had selected a weekday evening so as not to interfere with a weekend crowd. Our server never made us feel rushed, and we thank her for that! All in all, a delightful, tasty meal in great atmosphere at reasonable prices. We will definitely be back, and next time the trout will be on my plate!
Il Piatto is reliably a great restaurant experience. The ambiance and the quality of the food are both outstanding.
Try the happy hour - it is a wonderful way to try a number of this restaurant's great dishes. Would highly recommend the Linguine with Clams. Superb. Great wine selection as well.
Our first night in Santa Fe and we selected Il Piatto for dinner after seeing the reviews on Open Table. Our server was attentive and personable. My husband had a glass of Cab/Merlot blend and I had a Sauvignon Blanc. A bit pricy but excellent choices. For dinner we selected Eggplant Parmesan and Pumpkin Ravioli. They were both exceptional! Fresh and flavorful. The presentation of the eggplant was artful, while the ravioli looked more average, both were absolutely delicious! I recommend Il Piatto for anyone wanting a great dinner in the historic part of this interesting town.
Excellent food and service the best! We had a wonderful evening
We enjoyed the meal a great deal. Our easier was a bit distracted. Great ambience
We went here because of the outstanding reviews. My wife’s ravioli’s were not lukewarm BUT COLD. We advised the waiter to alert the cook (it couldn’t have been a chef). The waiter was very apologetic and removed the cost of the ravioli’s from our bill. That is the reason for two stars instead of one.
Tried il Piatto against the advice of someone in food/service industry... we have thoroughly enjoyed all of our meals in Santa Fe, with the exception of Piatto. Each dish was equally disappointing & unfortunately the service was not on the level of other local restaurants. Our wine was great.
Lovely meal when we were visiting in Santa Fe...they always serve outstanding food!
We attended their Happy Hour and had a glass of wine, starters and half-sized main courses at half price. It was a bargain and plenty of food for us. The service was a bit slow (perhaps because they were nearly at capacity for Happy Hour) but the server was pleasant and our food came out in a timely and accurate manor. We have been going to this restaurant for years and have always found it a dependable choice.
Great food!! Went on a Friday night and sat in the bar. Restaurant very busy which is a good sign. Waitress was attentive and got our order correct with no hitches. Great experience.
