About

This restaurant is permanently closed. Il Pescatore was founded in 1980 by three partners all of whom were of Tuscan origin. The original menu included classic Tuscan dishes, which are still on the menu today, such as Pasta della Casa, Veal Scallopine with mushrooms, and our signature Veal T-Bone with Rosemary (Lombata de Vitello al Rosmarino).

With the explosion of the Italian food and wine scene in the 1980’s, the menu expanded to represent dishes from numerous regions of the Italian peninsula. Risotto con funghi (Piemonte), Cannelloni alla Romana (Roma), Eggplant Parmigiana (Sicilia), and Fresh Fish Picatta (Napoli) are but a few of the regional dishes on our menu.

Our menu has been continuously evolving, and this year we introduced our own homemade Gelato and Sorbet.

Il Pescatore has been proudly serving the community of Oakland for over 32 years at Jack London Square and we have been blessed with many loyal customers over the years.

But the food is too pricey for what it is. A bowl of pasta shouldn't cost $23! And play Italian music, for goodness sake.

Haven't been here in 15 years or so. Happy Father's Day to me. Totally not disappointed. Carpaccio was perfect; Veal Saltimbocca was a little different than I make it, but the difference was a good variation. Service was fine. Ambience is just lovely. No whiny dissertation here; this was just a very nice experience served well. No nonsense; good food; pleasant atmosphere; nice wait staff; just the way I like it. DO come here.

The best thing about the restaurant was the waiter, and he was just adequate. He never asked us if we wanted another drink from the bar (we did!) The decor was very outdated, odd and cluttered. The portions were extremely small for the price (1/2 chicken breast per order, about a 1/2 cup of vegetables and about the same amount of really bland pasta). We both had chicken and it had a strange texture, as if it had been previously frozen, inexcusable for a 16-20 dollar entree. I used to frequent this restaurant about 13 years ago before there were so many food options in the area, and remembered it fondly. Sadly I won't be returning based on this experience. Food not competitive for the area ex: Forge, Bocanova were packed.

This is the second time eating here, and the 2nd visit was just so so. I thought it was rude how our waiter kept making comments that we ordered enough food, after he took our orders he said "wow you guys eat a lot", and asked if we were hungry because of how much we ordered. WHO CARES what we order? WHO says that to customers while they are dining at their restaurant?? Tacky. I liked my spaghetti bolognese, BUT...my moms filet of sole had bones in it, which means they don't know how to filet a fish correctly. The calamari was dry and overlooked, and they took forever just to make my Caesar salad.

I'm also annoyed that they did not check me in to earn my dining pts! It's not brain surgery.

Not sure if I will come back again.....

Although it was Mother's Day when we dined, the service was still excellent and the menu was not changed. The food is always very good. We have been coming to this restaurant for many years and usually have the same waiter. Only disaapointment was they were out of our favorite Spumoni ice cream, but what can you expect on a busy Mother's Day? They do have the best Spumoni around.

Through the years, Il Pescatore has always delivered. You're not going to get groundbreaking dishes here. No surprises. It is your standard fare Italian restaurant. But what they do, they do well, especially in the seafood dishes.

The fish is fresh and some of the sauces on the fish or on your pasta are tasty but not extraordinary. Like I said, nothing fancy but you can be assured of a well prepared dish.

You cannot beat the view of the Marina and Jack London square.

Wait staff is professional. This is what they do for a living.

We'll come back for sure. We don't expect gastronomic surprises but we are never disappointed in the traditional fare.

I took my fiance there recently for his birthday. We were there with another couple. The waiters were awesome. Very funny you felt more like at dinner with family. I loved their birthday song. The silly string(not sure if that's the norm) was an added fun bonus. Great food, loved it was right on the water. We will definitely be going back!

This is a regular spot for my partner and I. The brunch menu was limited but suitable for the occasion. The meal included champagne, appetizer, pasta, main course and gelato and very reasonable for the price. The all male staff reminds me of Classic Italian restaurants in the North Beach district of San Francisco. They are always friendly and attentive.

We had a family get together there on Sunday night. We were seated promptly and given a great window table with a fabulous view of the bay. We were seated promptly and our server was there right away to ask us about appetizers and drinks. We ordered the Carpaccio and a bottle of champagne, which were all very good. They could add to their champagne offerings by the bottle.

All of us ordered pasta entree's and they were excellent, my brother ordered the Crab cakes as an entree, he loved it. Great food, good service although the servers were distracted by the NCAA women's semi finals as Stanford were playing.

We really enjoy going here for the service, food and the views.

Not an entirely full review. We ended up showing right at reservation time. We were sat at at a random location,
the host wouldn't even check for our reservation. We sat for 30 minutes without even getting a drink order. We are a professional couple, which confuses me how the restaurant was not even 50% full, and we were ignored. We ended up leaving and going to Scott's, which was an excellent dining experience. I would suggest Il Pescatore to no one.

Il Pescatore is a long time favorite of ours. We've been coming here since we moved to the Bay Area 15 years ago. As the name implies, it has Italian cuisine with an emphasis on seafood. The recently renovated interior creates an atmosphere of sumptuous luxury with its dark, heavy, leather chairs and waterfront view. The food and service rarely disappoint, although the prices reflect its tourist spot location.

We go to Il Pescatore for the Classic Italian and the great service. You never know how boisterous the crowd will be. Saturday turned out to be a quiet night. Gave us a chance to interact with the waiter, Kendal who's wine recommendations was spot on.This is a great menu to share dishes. Starting with the paper thin carpaccio capers and mustard, then shared a bowl of linguine with garlic and oil leaving room for the main dish. The veal Piccata is one of my favorites and my companion had a very nice fish recommended by Kendal. Entrees are served with perfectly steamed vegetables and a penne in a tomato and Parmesan. We didn't finish the pasta so we had room to share the Taramisu. Great coffee and fine brandy to finish a excellent meal.

We had always wanted to try this restaurant and now I know why they had open reservations at the last minute on NYE - it's not that great. The food presentation was mediocre and the food itself was overpriced, although edible. Count this one as a learning experience.

We went here for the first time based on a recommendation. It was our anniversary. We just loved our experience. My wife said that it was the best meal she has ever had in a restaurant and she has been to many restaurants all over the country. The service was excellent. The ambiance was perfect for a special occasion like ours. The food was perfect, the preparation excellent. I strongly recommend this restaurant .

We were a group of 8, rather loud, for lunch, and they welcomed us warmly. Great service. I only heard good things about all the dishes and wine. Thumbs up for chowder. My personal drink revue--don't order a Lemon Drop martini. We all agreed, we would do it again.

We have been going to Il Pescatore for over 30 years and wanted to go once again for my 75th birthday. When we walked in, we couldn't believe all the "JUNK" that has been hauled in to decorate the restaurant!!It would make a wonderful museum for the history of music but does not belong in the décor of a fairly small restaurant. We were "attacked" by gnats throughout our meal. The pasta accompanying the dishes was a very small portion. We have never seen such a small number of diners in one of our favorite restaurants! It makes me sad to have to write all of this because Nasir and the rest of the waiters have always been some of our favorites, but I think this place will be going under very soon if it doesn't make some major changes!

I brought my parents here at their request for Italian and seafood after a long trip. The service was very attentive and we loved the views of the boats and the water. However However, our food came out lukewarm at best and mine was not at all as described on the menu. The sorbet, however, is worth the trip: home made, it was light and fluffy, not at all icy.

The food here is actually quite tasty and the staff is friendly and helpful (even if not quite as attentive as you'd want). The views of marina are lovely. The interior of the restaurant however could use updating as it's dark and tired and tables are awfully close together.

First time walking over here for dinner. Nice, authentic Italian food; quiet atmosphere. After the hub-ub of younger, upbeat places in the area this was a really nice place to wind down and enjoy a quiet dinner and professional wait staff. The old-school feel we read about worked for us and we look forward to our next visit. Loved loved loved the host in his very handsome navy blue suit.
