Another great night at il Palio. Consistently excellent service, with that "just slightly over the top" feel that makes you think you are in the nicest restaurants. Enjoyed trying out some of the small plates we hadn't sampled yet, and then a chef's special pasts dish as well the the NY strip. Both were superb (will say the size of the NY strip was amazing... cooked perfectly, with enough meat to easily feed two normal people)
As a nice surprise - had a chance to spend some time talking with the manager/owner(?) when he came over to our table. We shared stories of wine tasting trips, and he went out of his way to tell us about some upcoming events we definitely wanted to try.
The nicest little treat? He comped our dessert and coffee without even mentioning he would. Just was a little "thanks" on our bill with the reduction on it. How can you not love a place that treats you like that?
A real treasure to have such a high quality Italian offering in this area. So glad that my wife and I decided to venture out to enjoy a special occasion. The dining area is elegant and easy to enjoy conversation. The appetizer samplers were a good value and tasty, but the charred octopus salad was on another level as it was tender and delicious. However our entrees were simply fantastic. I had the butternut squash ravioli immersed in a sweet frangelica sauce with just the right amount of cheese and savoryness. Truly unique flavors that left me with a lasting buzz of yum. My wife had the chestnut cavatelli with sausage and peppers. Flavorful and intense. Paired with a Barbera d’Asti that got better with each sip. Finally the Panna Cotta with cherries was a revelation of purity with nothing but authentic flavor kissing the palate. This was a thoughtful elegant meal made with love artistry and passion. Bravissimo!
Il Palio has a sophisticated and well designed setting, especially relative to weak offerings in the suburbs of Connecticut once you get away from Greenwich or New Haven. The wine list was extensive and represented all the key wine regions of Italy well, especially the areas like Alto Adige where one finds some of the best wine values.
Our main courses of Hailut and Veal offered quality ingrediets prepared ina very tradional way. We visited at the end of February so its hard to judge whether the restaurant is dedicated to sourcing locally since mid winter is not an ideal time for seasonal ingredients. My pasta appitizer could have used less time in the water but otherwise the visit, from the welcome on,
warm and yummy and we look forward to future visits.
Awesome staff and outstanding dinner. Being Italian, I am quite picky but the food was really good. We all enjoyed the evening and the waiter was extremely knowledgeable about wines and food.
We just moved to Shelton and this restaurant was recommend by a friend. It was charming, great food, excellent service and a great new favorite spot for us in Shelton!
We rarely head up this direction, and this was a wonderful find. We will be back.
Service and food was excellent. Its in a quiet area at night with plenty of well lit parking.
Been here many times and it has never disappointed. Food was delicious, and service was great. It was a bit noisy but it was a busy Saturday night. Pricey but worth it.
A late Valentine's stop - to help us get away from the craziness of a busy week. Greeted at the door warmly, put in a nice secluded corner, and then enjoyed impeccable service, excellent food, time together. Tried the small plate selection for the first time this time around - and really enjoyed it. Will come back to try it on its own as a "late night snack".
A friends get together for lunch was very nice. Meals were great and we felt "special". Definitely had a "business person" lunch location. But, we had time to sit and chat and did not feel rushed.
It is a "special occasion" spot.
We went on Valentine's Day. Got seated promptly. Got our drinks and appetizers quickly too but had to wait quite awhile for the main course. Food was very good when it did arrive. This is not the norm here, so I would chalk it up to being a busy holiday.
Il Polio is usually good, but I think they over booked. waited a half our to be seated after our schedule reservation and then had to left after waiting an hour and a half after ordering our food. This was an unfortunate and bad experience at an otherwise great restaurant.
This was our second Valentine's Day dinner here, and once again they did not disappoint. The food was great, had the Mediterranean halibut, and it was very flavorful and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The atmosphere was cozy and romantic, and the deserts are heaven!
Worst experience I’ve ever had and have fine dined around the world! Horrible service and the owner couldn’t care less about my feedback. Will never go back. Thanks for ruining our first Valentine’s Day Dinner!
Valentines Day dinner was perfect! We are always greeted warmly at the door, were seated immediately in a comfortable location, and enjoyed the excellent service and delicious meal that we know and love at Il Palio.
Can’t wait to return!
Glad to see they had normal menu and Valentine menu. Apps were very good. Main course was good but a bit expensive. Service was excellent but kitchen was very slow . like over 2 hours slow. ambience was good but we polished off a whole wine bottle before dinner came.
Fabulous Valentine's Day dinner. The restaurant was absolutely packed; however, our table was a corner cozy and staff was amazing. Can't wait to return
Food was good but the service was terrible. My filet was over cooked and my husbands pasta portion was small. The room was very loud and we could not even hear each other. Our waiter barely checked in with us and he never offerred us dessert or coffee so after 15 minutes we just asked for the check.
I had been there for lunch about a year ago and it was good but this experience was very disappointing.
Have been to Il Palio several times for dinner and special occasions. The service has always been very good and dinner has never disappointed. The ambiance is perfect for either a romantic evening or a business dinner. The restaurant is located in a business park so there is always ample parking either on a work day or weekend. I would recommend I have recommended Il Palio to family who have enjoyed their meals and have returned for special occasions.
The restaurant was cozy and romantic. The service was good and the food was delicious. Would definitely go back. Loved it
Il Palio never disappoints. The perfect spot for lunch with friends. Excellent food, service and ambiance. So glad it's close by.
We went to celebrate my mom’s 90th birthday. The lunch special menu was a favorite for our entire party of four. The food was superb and the portions perfect for lunch. The servers were very attentive and accommodating. It was an enjoyable experience.
All dishes are made in-house and are amazing, the pasta exceeded my expectations. Great place
Have been there before and it was great. This time not so much very disappointed. For the price food and service should of been top notch and far from it. Would not rush back.
We enjoy the ambiance of this restaurant, with a lovely location, great service and food. Enjoyed celebrating our friends marriage with a special dinner.
Not over the top by any means but they had my hopes up Food is just ok
Wonderful service we had a difficult dietary restriction which was handled with ease.
went for a lunch date with a friend ordered a salad with fish on it the fish was very dry and salty sent it back ended up with an arugula salad that was very small not impressed and would never go back
Place was great. Had the chicken scarp which was terrific. Headed back for the second time this week!
Amazing food and comfortable environment. The service was impeccable. We live so close and feel lucky to have this notable restaurant nearby. Our appetizers, drinks, and food were all worth every penny. Delizioso!
First, I want to start off with the positives. The restaurant is beautiful and clean. The food was very good. The service was HORRIBLE.
We didn’t know who our waiter was at any point, was always flagging down someone from drinks to dinner to check.
I would not go back to this restaurant anytime soon.
I have been to Il Palio several times, for both lunch and dinner, and have always been pleased. The service at this dinner was superb and enhanced the experience. The food was top notch and well-presented. The restaurant has a very nice wine list by the glass. I definitely recommend.
Couldn’t ask for a better evening last Thursday. The hostess, bartender and server were all delightful. From appetizer to dessert we savored and lingered over a fine meal, never rushed. Will return.
We have been to Il Palio many times - the food is always yummy and is consistent. Our service was not up to par this time. Our waiter was too busy to tell us the "specials" so a young man with much less experience read them to us - they didn't seem exceptionally appealing. Claudio, our waiter - seemed happy to see us at first - the rest of the night he seemed distracted - I mentioned that we were celebrating my husband's birthday - it was never mentioned or acknowledged by the waiter. When we were given our check, the waiter dropped it at our table, had no eye contact and was looking over my husband's head - looking elsewhere. The food was good but service was not personal and it was disappointing.
What a wonderful surprise to find a top caliber restaurant in Shelton. The service was great the food was terrific and they went ought of their way to make my daughter's bon voyage to college dinner special with a desert especially for her. Can't wait to go back!
Superb dining experience!
Very enjoyable. Good food, good service. I had the New York Strip Steak and it was served in a deep dish pan! I did not like that. I would prefer a dinner plate.
Food was fantastic as usual and service great. Beautifully decorated for the Holidays which created a fantastic setting for a holiday lunch. Can’t wait to head back!
Chef Margherita never ceases to please with her inventive and creative dishes. The chestnut cavateli, the great wines the warm caponata and the roaring fireplace made this holiday luncheon so enjoyable and cozy. The homemade lentil minestrone with spinach was unprecedented. The pizza crust was perfectly crisp and so tasty. Service attentive and good. Love her and her food. Brava Chef Margherita !
Delicious food served beautifully! Great service. Did not rush. Delightful place.
