Il Palio was named after the race held each summer in Siena, Italy. Created with a passion, the restaurant has been exquisitely designed and beautifully finished with materials from all over the world. No stone was left unturned and time was not a factor in finding exactly what was required to make the "vision" a reality. The atmosphere created is one of quiet comfort in surroundings reminiscent of an Italian villa. The friendly and courteous staff, the outstanding food, and the efficient service all contribute to the ambiance felt by those who visit the restaurant. Il Palio's fine Tuscan cuisine is a pleasing combination of the highest-quality ingredients and the caring preparation by chefs who take pride in the dishes they present. Like the race in Siena, Il Palio is creating lasting impressions.

Excellent food, service & wine list. Split the pappardelle for an app. All meals were plentiful and very good. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive. Wine list had many offerings at reasonable prices. My wife had a large piece of Salmon that was excellent. Overall a 5 star experience.

The outstanding food was offset by the incredibly slow service. Our waiter did not tell us about the daily specials, which we heard him explain to other tables. Also, complimentary after dinner drinks were offered to a neighboring table, but not to us. We were also seated near an external door on the lower level on a cold and wet night, so whenever the door was opened (which happened frequently) the tables in the immediate area felt a wet and cold breeze. The restaurant should have known better than to sit guests in that area.

Very beautiful and elegant place to go on a date and impress.

The "wine guy" I apologize I do not remember his name was very friendly and helpful in selecting a bottle of wine and poured our first glass and told us he would have it chilled. We were unaware that it would be kept in the kitchen. We kept having to ask our waiter, who kept getting lost for long periods, to refill our glasses which was most annoying and after we were done with our meal (which my husband loved his, I did not care for mine all) we still had not completed the bottle of wine. We had to ask again for the remainder of the bottle. This is NOT suppose to happen in an upscale restaurant.

The desserts were spectacular.

So the wine issue and my entree were the disappointment. Which would not be a huge deal, but the amount of $$ you spend it becomes an issue.

Il Palio is not an easy place to find, hidden away in a corporate maze of offices and condos somewhere in Shelton. But it is well worth seeking out. This is an upscale restaurant with an ambiance like no others in the area. You enter through a grand portico into a bar area which is kept well away from the two dining rooms, one on each side, so that diners are not subject to bar crowd noise. The generally Italian menu is outstanding, the wine list is extensive, if a little on the expensive side, though there are a few choices around or under $40. The menu distinguishes between small tapas style plates and somewhat larger appetizers, beside normal size entrees. The decisions we selected--risotto, salmon, halibut, chicken, were all very well done and beautifully presented by an extremely professional staff. Smart and fancy but not at all intimidating or too posh for words. We will go back soon.

We go on a date night every time we come to class in Connecticut! The best Salmon EVER is my WOW 😮 experience with this restaurant! We love this place . They do everything you ask of them 🍽and the portions are huge. No tiny plates like other restaurant venues 🥇

Food was all fresh and fantastic! Apps are served tapas style (fave: warm olives). Salads are super fresh (fave: beet salad), entrees are properly portioned (fave: Fettucine with shrimp), and the desserts were delicious (fave: bread pudding). They have an extensive wine menu, great beer selection, and some nice prosecco choices. And the service was top notch!

Have been to this restaurant many times and always enjoy it. It is higher than "moderate" for expense but we know that. It can be loud . We were just there with 6 people and we did have a comfortable round table but it made it hard to hear those across from you. I have been there with 4 people regular dining and if the table is smaller - the conversation is easier. I have also been there for weddings and other larger gatherings in private rooms, etc. Always lovely - always wonderful food and drinks/ wine, etc. Would definitely recommend as long as people are looking for a lovely meal and not worried about the cost.

We were traveling through the area and found this restaurant on Open Table. The restaurant was very nice. The decor, layout and ambiance were very desirable. The service was great. All the employees were welcoming and genuinely appreciative of our visit. The food was excellent. They do not have a big menu. It is not your basic Italian menu. I loved the different ways the food was prepared. My husband who is prefers traditional red sauce Italian wasn’t crazy about the options but agreed that the salmon he ordered was great.

Another great night at il Palio. Consistently excellent service, with that "just slightly over the top" feel that makes you think you are in the nicest restaurants. Enjoyed trying out some of the small plates we hadn't sampled yet, and then a chef's special pasts dish as well the the NY strip. Both were superb (will say the size of the NY strip was amazing... cooked perfectly, with enough meat to easily feed two normal people)

As a nice surprise - had a chance to spend some time talking with the manager/owner(?) when he came over to our table. We shared stories of wine tasting trips, and he went out of his way to tell us about some upcoming events we definitely wanted to try.

The nicest little treat? He comped our dessert and coffee without even mentioning he would. Just was a little "thanks" on our bill with the reduction on it. How can you not love a place that treats you like that?

A real treasure to have such a high quality Italian offering in this area. So glad that my wife and I decided to venture out to enjoy a special occasion. The dining area is elegant and easy to enjoy conversation. The appetizer samplers were a good value and tasty, but the charred octopus salad was on another level as it was tender and delicious. However our entrees were simply fantastic. I had the butternut squash ravioli immersed in a sweet frangelica sauce with just the right amount of cheese and savoryness. Truly unique flavors that left me with a lasting buzz of yum. My wife had the chestnut cavatelli with sausage and peppers. Flavorful and intense. Paired with a Barbera d’Asti that got better with each sip. Finally the Panna Cotta with cherries was a revelation of purity with nothing but authentic flavor kissing the palate. This was a thoughtful elegant meal made with love artistry and passion. Bravissimo!

Il Palio has a sophisticated and well designed setting, especially relative to weak offerings in the suburbs of Connecticut once you get away from Greenwich or New Haven. The wine list was extensive and represented all the key wine regions of Italy well, especially the areas like Alto Adige where one finds some of the best wine values.

Our main courses of Hailut and Veal offered quality ingrediets prepared ina very tradional way. We visited at the end of February so its hard to judge whether the restaurant is dedicated to sourcing locally since mid winter is not an ideal time for seasonal ingredients. My pasta appitizer could have used less time in the water but otherwise the visit, from the welcome on,
warm and yummy and we look forward to future visits.

Stand alone attractive building set among corporate offices seems strange at first but once inside the attractive and tasteful decor is really an unusual setting for the area. Drove 30 minutes and worth it for the food was well prepared with quality ingredients. Attentive but not intrusive service. Not an everyday meal option for worth the drive for a special occasion or just a once in a while elegant meal. Both fish dishes were very good and excellent bread always makes for a good starting sign.
