View Private Dining DetailsFood is fantastic and service just as terrific. Strong menu of authentic Italian dishes with a very good wine selection focused on Italian regional wines. Great desserts and appertifs. Experienced and mature wait staff. Whole team at restaurant worked together seamlessly to provide a terrific experience. Not only do they have great food, but this is an extremely well-operated and professionally managed restaurant.
Lovely service. Interesting and delicious food
It is the only Italian restaurant in the triangle that gets the seal of approval from my Italian husband. That's all I have to say.
We love dining at Il Palio for many reasons. The food is outstanding and the staff is exceptionally focused on the dining experience. Martinis are the best!
The food here was just okay, not great. Crostini was burned. Cacio y Pepe had WAY too much cheese. Entrees were average and were pricey. Disappointing.
The food was delicious and the service was outstanding.
We went for my husband's birthday and luckily it was a Thurs. when all the wine bottles are half price! The wine steward recommended a Sicilian wine and it was great. We had a 6 pm reservation, which was early, and because of that we had excellent service. My husband absolutely hates making a fuss on his birthday, so I requested it be low key . They printed "Happy Birthday" at the top of the menu - perfect!
This is a great place to enjoy a special meal where there is attention to every detail. We had the chicken with the browned butter and crispy sage sauce this time and it was fabulous! Massimo is a a true European style waiter who takes his job seriously and is so much fun! Another great meal at Il Palio!
The service was very good. The waiters and waitress were friendly. I had certain food issues and the chef was able to give me what I wanted. The pasta was very good and I was able to get it gluten, dairy, and sugar free including the sauce. Very expressive.
We have been here frequently and always have a wonderful experience. My wife has a gluten allergy and they are always accommodating to her needs, while still maintaining a wonderful quality to the food. Service is fantastic and the atmosphere is fantastic. A wonderful place for a romantic dinner!
Highly disappointing and very overpriced. Jimmy at the bar was the best. All other service lacked. Food seemed like it had been sitting out. I give this a 5/10 overall and wouldn't recommend.
I love the food. I went with my wife for Valentine’s dinner . They had a great four course meal options. We totally loved it . The waiter made sure I got the perfect wine with the food . Totally worth the money.
We were disappointed with the inconsistency in the Valentine Day prix fixe menu as our prior dining experiences at Il Palio have been excellent. For the first course, our waitress recommended the beef carpaccio, which was excellent, but the roasted garlic-anchovy dressing lacked flavor and simply overwhelmed the castelfranco radicchio. The second course gnocchi and spaghetti di gragnano with littleneck clams were excellent dishes. For the third course, the smoked ribeye with horseradish gremolata was a bit overcooked but tasty. The pork chop was replaced with a wood grilled lamb chop, which was not a quality cut as there was more fat on the bone than meat; this was the case even when I received a second lamb chop. The chocolate and espresso copetta was very good but the baba rhum was forgettable. We deferred to our waitress for wine selections and her recommendations for white and red wines by the glass were "spot on". Although we will dine again at Il Palio, our Valentine Day dining experience did not live up to the restaurant's AAA Four Diamond rating.
Amazing! The real deal- best service at both the fabulous bar and in the restaurant. Everyone was from Italy just like you find in the North End in Boston and Chicago!
We had grilled ciabatta bread with a sundried tomato topping and whipped ricotta - best we have ever had with honey in a honey comb on the side. Then an incredible radicchio salad- then pasta with bacon and a creamy tomato sauce - worth going for just this dish - i think its worth the trip from Cary just for that dish! Then grilled swordfish that melted in your mouth- a cheese plate and the best panna cotta over a grilled pear with homemade ice cream and biscotti..,, the best service and recommendations - ask for the recommendations! Wine was very pricey- I’m looking into
The corking fee for next time!
The most delicious Italian food in the Triangle, hands-down. Innovative dishes and brilliant execution makes this one our go-to places. Ambiance could be livelier, but at least it is quiet so you can hear yourself speak!
One of the best restaurants I’ve been to in years. Absolutely perfect.
Pleasant eve
Out. Chestnut soup fantastic. Overall great experience
Outstanding birthday dinner. Massimo was phenomenal and made the experience even more special with souvenir menus and recommendations. The crostini were especially memorable; get the beef steak drippings, you won’t regret it.
We had a lovely table. The waiter was very attentive but discreet. This was a special occasion for us and the experience made it even more so. The food was delightful and there was no rush we were left to eat and take our time. I enjoy dinning out and enjoy the experience. I do not want to be rushed and this was not
Thank you for a lovely evening.
Massimo was the server. He was a real Italian man. He told us what wine paired well with beef. Service was fast. They gave me a gelato with a candle for my birthday. I would go back. Don’t know why I waited so long to eat here after living in Chapel Hill for so many years.
We were celebrating a birthday and the menus had Happy Birthday printed at the top. The wait staff was excellent and very helpful. One member of our group had a family emergency and arrived late and they accommodated her and made sure that her meal arrived timely with the other meals. The food was very good and the menu appealed to many levels of appetite.
Il Palio will surprise you. Although in a hotel, it offers superb Italian food and fantastic service. A top recommendation. You will not be disappointed.
New Year's Eve 3-course special was perfect for us - delicious and beautiful prepared and presented.
Absolutely, the best gluten free pasta I've had in 14 years since being diagnosed with celiac disease. With our Italian server, Massimo, my wife and felt we were back visiting Florence. Excellent food, excellent service, excellent ambiance, and save room for the homemade gelato!!
Very disappointed altogether. Too much cheese in all the options, even salad. Pasta not cooked enough. Servers were not coordinated.
Everything was delicious! Loved the quality of food and the excellent service. We wished that the dinner serving of octopus larger, as it was small like an appetizer! Will definitely go back.
Each item we tasted was a unique flavor. We greatly enjoyed our meal.
All the food is fabulous but we love the fresh pastas with all the variety of interesting sauces.
Wonderful food, service and ambiance. Quiet enough, and tables far enough from one another, that we could talk easily and hear what everyone at our table was saying. Looking forward to returning in the near future.
Wouldn’t go back. Food fair.
We had a great thanksgiving meal- the food was outstanding. We went back in February and the results were not as good. The waiter was inattentive, the swordfish wasn’t cooked and the service was rushed. For $150 for 2 before tip I won’t be back
Our visit was for Thanksgiving. We have eaten here before for Thanksgiving and were pleased. This year, the food was fair, which was disappointing since the cost of meal was $70 per person. The salad which I asked to have the dressing on the side was overly dressed in a creamy dressing, the short rib (which is a fatty cut of meat) was overly fatty sitting in a creamy polenta. I was disappointed. We don't mind paying for a good meal but thought this was not a good value for the price.
Thanksgiving
I took my adult son, who is gluten intolerant, here for Thanksgiving. Our waiter was very personable and helpful. His food and wine recommendations were right on target, and the chefs outdid themselves. Wonderful experience.
We thoroughly enjoyed the Thanksgiving dinner- the set menu of various items per 4 courses was excellent as we do not like to go to buffets for special days like Thanksgiving. Our waiter was exceptional and service overall was terrific.
Great food, great service, great restaurant.
Service was pitiful. It was like the staff was doing us a favor and often got things wrong because they were in such a rush. Why rush, the restaurant was half empty.
Way over priced for over seasoned small portions.
There will be no second chance.
Wonderful as always. The chocolate budino for dessert is incredible.
We had perfect evening and dinner at Il Palio. Our party of four ordered four different entrees--all of them were delicious The pasta special with shaved white truffles was exquisite. Chef Teddy Diggs has taken this restaurant to new heights, and we will be back often. Thank you, Il Palio.
We had dined previously at Il Palio and had a fabulous meal so we were quite surprised by the quality of service and food on this visit. The server got one of our entree orders entirely wrong (he brought the wrong pasta) and another entree, a ribeye steak for two, was overdone (we had ordered medium-rare, the steak was much, much closer to medium) and was also quite over-salted. Of the three pasta dishes we ordered, only the gnocchi were superlative; both the tonarelli and the paccheri were disappointing (the tonarelli was too rich, the paccheri accompanied by guanciale that tasted more like fried pork rind than guanciale). The restaurant did correct the pasta order and comped the incorrect order, but it did mean that one diner in our party was without her meal while the others were eating. Not what we had in mind for a birthday celebration, and given both the cost and our expectations, a big disappointment.
Some of the items, like the chicken liver mousse and baccala bruschetta, were perfect. Same for the service. Massimo was great! Other items, like the pasta amatricianna, octopus, and dessert, were not. Something has changed. We have gone to this restaurant over the last 20+ years for special occasions and celebrations. Sadly, this will be our last visit.
