Best place ever. Love eating here while staying at the Siena. Great for dinner lunch or breakfast.
We came in for a date night and were very happy with our choice. We really enjoyed the octopus and the butternut squash ravioli. Our server recommended a bottle of wine that was excellent. We loved the scenery and will definitely plan another visit in the future.
The food was excellent. Service was very good too, but they did forget our appetizer. I would definitely go back.
Asked for a chef’s tasting menu, and was obliged. The server was a bit too much. He was taking “care” of all the tables in our dining area. Meaning..he didn’t have time to talk about the food or wine as much as we would have preferred. Some dishes were good, others absolutely perfect, but our entree was not good at all. Lamb chop (over cooked, under seasoned) with grey green sauce; roasted (greasy) fingerling potatoes..no seasoning. And greasy black Brussels sprouts. Perfect butternut squash ravioli and even better than perfect cippolini, as well as healthy pours of really good wine saved the experience.
Lovely service, special night. We got the best seat in the house for our anniversary.
We had a wonderful time! Massimo and Lyle delivered superior customer service and were incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. The food was delicious and Massimo handmade our cappuccinos.
Il Palio is now one of our fav restaurants and we look forward to going back soon.
Excellent service and food! Just wish portions were more generous. My college son ordered a dinner portion of pasta that literally was only 4 bites! He was still hungry after 3 courses!
Service started good, but was almost non-existent by the end of the meal. One of the entrees that we ordered was missing a major component (no halibut in a dish in which it was a major ingredient) but our server never checked back in with us. And the restaurant was not busy. We flagged down the bread person and she helped a little bit. Major disappointment for a meal that started out so promising. I could never recommend Il Palio based on that.
Anazing food and service. Gem in Chapel Hill. Do not miss!
Best dinner in the triangle I have had!
Excellent food and service. Would definitely return when in Chapel Hill again
Always great service and great food. Massimo is fantastic!
The food wasn't quite up to previous meals and the noise level where we were sitting was too loud. The service was excellent.
Our experience was wonderful! Great food, great prices and good variety. The service was excellent! We will most definitely return!
Waiter was great. Food great. Overall had a great time. Definitely going to be going again
Every one’s really enjoyed their choices of entree. The eggplant, in particular, was subject to superlative comments.
As usual, service was friendly yet impecable.
The place was nice and the waiter was good. For the price the food was lacking. The steak was over peppered. The patrons are the bar could be easily heard in the dining room. The benches were spaced to far away from table. Not worth cost ruth chris better food for price.
Our Host was entertaining and enjoyable. The food was incredible and satisfying. The ambiance was romantic and peaceful. It was a Wonderful experience.
Loved it and our server Massimo was amazing! Best Italian in the triangle!!
Il Palio was a delightful surprise. It was my first visit, though I’ve lived on the area for many years. The food (caprese salad, halibut, Brussels sprouts) was beautifully prepared and exceptionally delicious. The atmosphere was conducive to relaxed dining and conversation. We will be back.
We were the only ones in the restaurant. Waiter was great but food was mediocre at best. The best thing we had was the meatball appetizer. Pasta sauces were just bland and plain.
Will try again on a weekend since it was a Tuesday night. Hopefully it will be better.
Service and ambiance is exceptional. The renovations really give the bar and restaurant a fresh, clean and modern vibe. Comfortable setting where you can dress up if you like, or just go smart casual. Our food was served timely, though my pasta dish was room temperature, and, horrors! , actually needed a bit of salt. Delicious nonetheless. Outstanding service, professional, easygoing, but, not too chatty.
Our server on Saturday was great and all his suggestions were amazing
We've eaten at Il Palio several times over several years, usually for a special occasion with an overnight stay at the Sienna Hotel. We've also traveled widely in Italy, and the hotel/ restaurant combo do a good job of Americanizing the experience. Read that last comment as approval. The food is great, the head waiter Massimo (from near Naples) is knowledgeable and great fun, and the wine list is extensive. Prices are high, but this is a restaurant in a boutique hotel. Be prepared for a great experience!
Fantastic food & service & excellent wine. Arguably the best tagliatelle I've ever had, even in Italy.
Expensive, but worth it.
Delicious food and wine and very nice staff. Good wine too! Check in with the bar first for a tasting of wines.
The restaurant is situated in the Siena Hotel so you enter through the lobby, which is very elegant. We had 7:45pm reservations, the restaurant was not crowded and we were seated immediately. Massimo our waited could not have been nicer. He handed us our menus and they were with “Happy Birthday” for my wife’s birthday. Massimo went over the menu and took our drink order, we ordered the Heirloom Tomato Caprese Salad and it was very good. The mozzarella was probably the best I’ve had since moving from NY two years ago. We also had the Veal and Ricotta meatballs, definitely a MUST have. At that point my wife and I could have had the salad and meatballs, a couple of glasses of wine and we would have been good BUT we still had dinner coming. My wife had the Linguini shrimp Fra-diavolo and I had the Pappardelle Bolognese both dishes were amazing. We also had a small side of roasted broccoli (which we could have done with out but it was still very good). Dessert was a large slice of Tiramisu, a glass of Sambuca and a white port wine. We loved the place, the food and the service – oh and they had the menu wrapped up in a nice red bow and handed it to my wife when we left – we will definitely be coming back.
We are always pleased with the excellent service, relaxed atmosphere, and creative and delicious food. Mossimo has a way of making this great restaurant a warm welcoming favorite for date night!!
Since I have given the restaurant all five stars I will write the one recommendation. The wine menu was a bit bland. Good variety, but the wines were not the outstanding type of wines a restaurant like Il Palio demands.
Massimo is the best! Anticipated our needs before we said anything. Food was great too.
We have always counted on this restaurant for its excellent more complex and sophisticated Italian food, as opposed to Americanized bland spaghetti or lasagna. We have never been disappointed in the times, including this time, when we have come for delicious appetizers, entrees, and desserts.
Outstanding food, can't say enough about how great the wood grilled Iberico pork is.
Electricity was out; small menus available but good!
Even though the electricity was out because of the storm this week, we kept our reservation for a birthday celebration. Highly recommend the Bistecca alla Fiorentina for Two. The 40 oz wood grilled porterhouse was out of this world. And the olive oil & rosemary infused mashed potatoes were to die for.
Food is always fabulous but the bar was really slow that night. Took too long to get drinks and wine.
Special place with terrific food and decor. The service was very professional and we enjoyed the our entrees! Parking is so easy; something not always the case in Chapel Hill & Durham!
We had a wonderful meal and the service from Massimo, et al was awesome.
The setting, service, and food were all excellent. Highly recommend.
Our initial server, Lyle, was amazing but then he left. Next server didn’t speak. Food was fine, not memorable and definitely not worth the money. Will not be returning.
