Il Mulino New York - Uptown Ratings and Reviews
Food was great. Service was atrocious. I ordered a specific bourbon that I always drink and received the rye from the same company and they refused to change. Then I was having still water and somewhere along the way it had sparkling poured into it. On top of that when my pasta came (which was undeniably good) I was shouted at to not start eating - when I had a forkful already in my mouth - as a particular garnish they apply at the table hadn’t come out yet. Been here a few times before. Can’t say I’ll be back.
For restaurant week, this was the best value. It was my husband’s birthday so I thought I would take him to a nice lunch. Just the two of us. The family treated him the night before and that same evening and continued through the weekend at different restaurants. This was the best one he enjoyed. The sea bass entree was perfect and so delicious. He enjoyed his appetizer meatball with risotto. They even sang for him when they brought his favorite chocolate dessert. Service excellent and actually was surprised. We definitely found another place to return to.
We did not realize it was restaurant week. Il Mulino had an exceptional menu for $29 for three courses. Unlike most restaurants during restaurant week, there were very good options to select. I had the cheese ravioli, risotto and flourless chocolate cake. Quite a value. We normally spend $200 or so for lunch, so this was a treat. I missed my langustines but will have them next time!
We thought this had advertised as restaurant week for dinner as well as lunch and were surprised, as was another couple sitting near us to find it was not. Nevertheless we were eager to try the food. The food was good and surprisingly plentiful but the prices were extravagant. The restaurant was very noisy and very, very dark. Not what we'd expect from a 4 star restaurant. We won't go back.
Some friends took my husband and I here and we received white glove treatment. My friend was visiting from Boston so I was excited to take her to this restaurant. The food was mediocre at best, the portions were extremely small and they never brought us out the usual appetizers. A waiter asked if we would like some fresh cheese and pepper, left to get it and never came back. When we asked for it they seemed to be annoyed. I was really disappointed. Apparently if you are not a regular they treat you very differently. I would never go to this restaurant again.
Food was good. Service was lacking when I asked for something it was acknowledged but never surfaced. When leaving we gave the girl at the front our coat check and she stated the girl would be back soon to get our coats. We stood in front of her for awhile without her making any motion to help and get the coat. When I asked if someone else could get the coat she repeated quite nastily that the girl would be back soon. The male greeter was no better stating that it was two floors up for the coat so we would have to wait. Better more pleasant greeters in a restaurant like this would be expected
Fine Italian dinner, with extras, but what's the hurry?
Nice options for restaurant week lunch.
Delicious little light ricotta meatball in fresh tomato sauce with a ricotta ?sauce, very good fish, veal parmigiana was a little dry, the pear dessert was two tiny slices that must have added up to one eight of a pear, BUT the flourless chocolate cake was DIVINE. So a kitchen that wasn't at its best.
The wait staff is prompt, but the busboys must think they ballboys at a Grand Slam tennis match, very eager to clear things away, with no eye contact and too fast.
Lovely experience. Been to the 2 in Miami Beach, 1st time at this one. Was not disappointed. Everyone from the hostess to the server & busboy were delightful. The decor is great with photos of icons such as Jackie & Audrey. The food was really good. I shall return.
We are big fans and Avid customers of all of your restaurants around the country and Puerto Rico. It was very good as usual, maybe a little overpriced. Waiter did Rush us and even had an attitude when we took a little time to order. Talk to the manager and it was resolved pretty quickly.
We love late lunch at Il Mulino, and this one was special. We had a late lunch New Year's Eve Day Lunch. We don't like going out on New Years' Eve. The restaurant was decorated with balloons, and it was a delight to be able to order from their regular menu. We skipped an appetizer, and ordered the langustine with risotto. Unbelievably delicious. They also make an amazing risotto. We loved our waiter (we've had him before--Vladimir) who remembered the wine we drank the last time we were at the restaurant as well as what we ordered. Cudos to a well run restaurant with a terrific chef.
It was Christmas day - the food was excellent but the service was rushed and at the
same time slow - we had to ask for menus, asked when we wanted to order and finally
waited for the check. The waiters cleared dishes before everyone was finish eating.
Sadly it wasn't a good experience
Food was very good but service wasn't -- especially for the price! We had to find a waiter to take our order, we had to request the special details that we heard delivered to a neighboring table, and we were delivered the check before being offered or served dessert. We can check Il Mulino off the list but won't be running back!
Very good. I was just disappointed to find out that they have taken away a lot of the antipasto treats when you arrive. Anyone who has been a long time original client from the downtown location where it all began will remember the delicious hard salami, garlic bread , cold mussel yummmmm ..... no more? We always order appetizers anyway but that was an il Mulino trademark. Now corporate and already cutting? Otherwise excellent server was amazing, manager is fabulous. I truly hate to complain but must bring this to their attention.
A very disappointing experience overall. Our table was constantly forgotten and sandwiched in between other tables. The veal chop was over cooked and the sauce was dry. This was such a far cry from the service and food quality at their Sunny Isles FL restaurant. We have enjoyed that restaurant immensely, but will not return to the uptown location again. We expect more for a $180 dinner.
