Il Mulino New York - Uptown Ratings and Reviews
We went with our 9 month old and at first felt slightly uncomfortable with his squirming around. The wait staff was so nice and caring making us feel comfortable with having him there it made the night incredible. Have been to the restaurant many times before and the service is always incredible.
We sat at 1:05 and ordered our food as soon as the server came back to our table to take the order. Our food didn’t arrive until 1:45. My pasta carbonara was awful and my daughter’s chicken wasn’t all that. My daughter’s glass of coke remained empty until I flagged someone for a refill which cost extra $5 for a fountain coke refill (seriously) I’m never going back. Even a much simpler restaurant could’ve done better. Awful experience.
The service, food and ambiance were all first class. Our server (Zdano) was an incredibly warm, informed and gracious host who gave us excellent suggestions from start to finish. The food was authentic and truly delicious. The ambiance was relaxed yet fun and somewhat dynamic with all the servers, full tables, bar and outside seating. Wonderful place - highly recommended pre-show or anytime.
The service upon arrival was dreadful. The hostess was not very pleasant. The captain had us stand around for 25 minutes even though the table was allegedly ready because he seated another table who arrived after us before we were seated. The food was kind of meh. The whole place seems down market at they do not give the charcuterie and other yummy nibbles that they used to. The noise was just awful and the tables are too close together so the wait staff bumped us all the time.. The waiters took our plates before we were done when they had been told that we were not done. All in all I used to love this place, but shall not go there again.
One of the finest dining experiences we have ever had. From the authentic old style NY white table cloth ambiance to the attentive and friendly wait staff to the truly outstanding menu offerings this is an evening you will remember. As you are seated water, excellent bread selection and a chunk of the best parmesan cheese all arrive. This is followed closely by amuse buche portion of bruschetta and fried zucchini. Haven’t even seen a menu and it is already an excellent start. Then the menus arrive along with a list of specials on a separate page and a recitation of even more specials by our waiter. So many choices it is almost overwhelming. We shared the meatball marinara appetizer and avocado arugula salad which were both delicious. My wife’s branzino was perfectly seasoned and cooked and perfectly filleted tableside. The braised lamb shank fell off the bone and tasted amazing. Our Amarone did not disappoint. Rounded out with grappa, cognac and cannoli the evening could not have been more perfect. Our primary waiter Zdenko (sp?) made us feel like regulars or old friends. We will be sure to return and request him when were are next in NYC
Food was good, but didn't blow me away. Restaurant was very loud and service rushed. Felt as though they were trying to get us out of there in order to fill table with the next group of patrons. Certainly not what I expected considering the restaurant's reputation in NYC. I believe there are many other restaurants of equal calibre and better value in Manhattan.
I have two friends in my hometown who said it's their favorite restaurant in NYC...now there's three of us! Great food and service. I requested alfredo sauce, which wasn't on the menu. No problem...they just made some. I will return there every trip I take to NYC from now on!
Was an excellent dinning experience, from the food which was absolutely incredible, to the beyond attentive service. I highly recommend for a date or a table of four. I absolutely love Italian food and this was one of the best I have had in a while. I most certainly will be returning to Il Mulino sometime very soon.
My wife and I were disappointed in Il Mulino Uptown. The Brunello was good and the parmesan and eggplant were also good. The spicy focaccia was the highlight of the meal. We ordered the lamb shank because we both like lamb and it was billed as a special. I usually get the pasta. The lamb was mediocre at best.
My baby sisters took me for my birthday..I was disappointed that though I had an 8:30a reservation, I was not seated until close to 9:30p. The hostess said that my entire party needed to be there (which they were by 8:35p) however the waiter came out at 8:15p and was ready to seat me (I was confused). Once we were there, we had to wait to get seated w/o any real explanation even though there were tables available. Overall, the food was good and I enjoyed myself...hopefully the restaurant will get it together when it comes to seating. SIDEBAR: we were not accommodated with any drinks or discount for our 1hr wait...smh
We went for lunch, the waiter was in a harried and read the then I ask were the bathroom was and they showed me this narrow, carpeted and very unsafe stairs that my husband as soon as he land a feet felt down completely hitting him self several times in his back and head, when they saw that they were so scare because he was not the only person that had fallen from their stairs. Still we ask for the check and paid $345 for a ok lunch, terrible service and almost a visit to the er. PLEASE BE CAREFUL GOING DOWN THE STAIR is carpet and is sometimes wet.
I love Il Mulino. I've been to their restaurants in Vegas, all 3 NYC locations, Nashville, Orlando, San Juan....always terrific. Service was adequate this last time. It was obvious the waiter wanted to turn the table as he hurried us. Also, getting real chintzy with the cheese from the wheel. The piece they gave me was awfully small. Il Mulino is better than that!
The one and only negative observation about Il mulino is, from time to time you get a judgmental captain or waiter. Simply put, they are prematurely pompous. We had one of those at lunch the other day. It's rarely the case at other equivalent high end Nyc restaurants. Some how it's expected and while not the best behavior, we still had a nice enjoyable lunch. But it still registers.
Rush, rush, rush! Get 'em in, get 'em out, take their money. The food was basically okay, except for the Caesar salad and all of the desserts which were pedestrian, but there was no way that they were interested in our dining experience. There was enough wait staff to serve an army, but all they did was push and rush us. Dinner for 5 was $800.00 with the tip and this is NOT that calibre of a restaurant. Go someplace else.......
Il Mulino uptown never disappoints. We usually have pasta, but today opted for sea bass, a special, which was delicious. My husband had the langustine, which he loved. A very pricey restaurant. With a bottle of wine, it was over $100 per person for lunch. But a special treat, and as we don't go every day, we don't regret going. Lovely, professional waiter who not only remembered us from our last visit, he remembered the wine we had!
