Il Mulino New York - Uptown
There’s no place like Il Mulino New York. The luxury Italian restaurant’s flagship Greenwich Village outpost initiated New York’s fine Italian dining trend and is still prized in the city’s elite dining scene. Zagat has rated Il Mulino New York as Manhattan’s No. 1 Italian restaurant for decades and has said the restaurant provides "one-of-a-kind" cuisine filled with delicious flavors, creating an "outstanding Italian classic" restaurant where "every dish is a masterpiece."
Executive Chef Michele Mazza, who hails from Naples, Italy, has proudly carried this tradition since 2003. Fresh ingredients, artistic preparation and impeccable service distinguish Il Mulino New York as one of the world’s premiere restaurants. In addition to fine dining, Il Mulino New York provides excellent off-site catering and products.

Wonderful experience! Highly recommended!
As usual Il Mulino was outstanding! Best pasta town, amazing deserts and service
Always 5 star!!!!
amazing service and even better food. Il Mulino is a home run..
I have dined here before and it’s always excellent. I brought two staff members this time for a business meeting and everything was exceptional.
Ordered chicken piccata. A chicken leg with skin on and lemon sauce appeared. Ridiculous
Il Mulino is fantastic. It has classic Italian fare, expertly prepared, with superb service. It is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in the world.
IlMulino Uptown is a fantastic restaurant. It starts with a smile at the front counter, super attentive wait staff seating us and immediately serving gratis delicious cheese (carved table side from a large cheese wheel), zucchini, bruschetta, and sausage, and drink orders to quench our thirst. Then the superb appetizers (don’t miss the mozzarella, prosciutto, tomato, and red pepper appetizer) and salads. The main courses were all excellent ranging from my chicken capricciosa (not even on the menu) to the lobster spaghetti to the veal to the salmon. On top of all this best Italian cheesecake we have ever had. And service friendly, attentive, and unobtrusive. Relatively quiet also even with a full dining room. A great experience worth every penny.
Food was outstanding, service was impeccable, overall experience was fantastic! One of my all time favorite restaurants. Will be back for sure on my next trip to NYC.
It was almost perfect. The only problem is that they finish que dished inside the main area of the restaurant producing a lot of smoke and smell
Would go back for every meal!
Fabulous food and service!!
New favorite in NYC!!
Chicken parm was waaaaaay tooooo salty! Wow!
Overpriced and overrated place. Average food. What we didn’t like is that we arrived for a late lunch (2 pm) and by the end of our lunch there was almost nobody to wait for us since they were all busy having their own lunch in the restaurant. I don’t intend them not to eat but if you have guests they should be priority and don’t leave them almost without service. Having lunch in the same premise as clients ?? Not sure about it while the clients are eating. Doesn’t look good for me.
Won’t come back
The food was great. Service was quick. The only issue was space. Given the small space, the tables are very close to the point that tables have to be moved in order to be seated
Horrible experience food quality lacking big time
Valentines dinner prefixe was wonderful. Love the old-school elegant Italian feel of this restaurant. Our servers and captain was spectacular as well. Great place
Well, il Mulino was a disappointment!
Service wasn’t great for such a large staff - we were accosted by severs as we were seated which was overwhelming, but then it took a while to place our food order. The food was overpriced: calamari was average, chicken and steak were good.
They were out of both wines I wanted. The first replacement was too sweet, the second was ok but I know the wine and it’s cheap at the store but the markup was significant ($10 liquor store wine for $70!).
The tables are too close together and it feels very crowded. The noise level was high making it difficult to have a conversation.
It was way too dark - I had to use my phone flashlight to eat!
Overall, do not recommend!
I went to the uptown location. Within seconds of sitting down we were greeted with light appetizers including salami, bruschetta and a zucchini dish. We were then promptly greeted by a server who got our drink orders. My glass of water was never empty. The staff was superb. They were so attentive and made the dining experience very enjoyable. This isn’t a quiet setting but I don’t mind the noise. I think it makes the atmosphere more upbeat. My mom and I split the veal parm and arrabbiata pasta. They were nice enough to split them on two plates for us! Then we finished the meal with tiramisu which was absolutely amazing! Highly recommend if you want a 5 star dining experience
Great meal, great service. A bit pricey, but worth it.
Best Italian restaurant in NYC. Wonderful service too!
Best restaurant in NYC
Certainly a nice place with great food. Awesome location.
Very Good , Caprese Salad , Salmón was great, Tiramisu the must.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant to all my friends, as a matter of fact, one of my colleague just made a reservation for up coming Sunday lunch. Very attentive, professional, and most of all, great food. I can't wait to go back.
Always a good time!
It was very pleasant and the food was delish
I went for restaurant week for lunch. $26 for appetizer and entree or dessert and entree. We made it very clear we were doing the restaurant week “deal” to the waiter. We ordered apps and entree. We didn’t read the fine print, and we were offered dessert by the waiter. I assumed this was included bc they had already whisked the menus away from us. If he knew that we were doing restaurant week, I’m unsure why he’d offer $20 each desserts. Yes that’s right, $20 PER PERSON. So, we got no sort of deal. Had dessert in the middle of the day for absolutely no reason, and spent $40 on it. Service was not good for the reason that we got absolutely tricked by this waiter. Spent over $100 instead of $52. Food was OK. Ambiance sucked. White walls... looked like a sketchy Italian restaurant on Arthur Avenue in the 80s where the mafia did deals. Very, very upset with this experience.
The food was good. How ever I am not sure a Baileys and a martini are worth $50. No to mention that the Maitre D made me leave my drink at the bar under the pretense that it would be brought to my table. And guess what that never happen. Why alienate people who can afford to pay $600 for dinner for 3 people regularly? I am not sure but it certainly not smart.
First time in Il Mulino Uptown. Been going to Village location for 30 years. Food was great and it was restaurant week so a real score.
Love this restaurant!
Always great food and great service!
Excellent food and service. Very load but it is Restaurant week
it was restaurant week so place was packed. had pleasant drinks at the bar: very good Negroni! shown to table where we were able to sit side by side, oherwise we would not have been able to hear one another. (this is generally a very loud place). service was appropriate and professional. there is a captain who you are obliged to tip separately on the check but he did not show until we had already ordered wine and only presented the menu, never discussed the dishes and was never seen again. we ordered appetizers and pasta: everything was excellent: I originally chose the cavatelli but this was no longer available so had rigatoni with a meat sauce. perfectly done and delicious. we did not order the restaurant week menu
I want to be fair: this was restaurant week so things were loud and a bit hectic, perhaps more so than usual since we have been here several times before.
I would say give it a try you will certainly dine well and hopefully be able to hear one another
I have dines at several of your establishments and the food is always amazing. Authentic Italian dishes. Bread, cheese and zucchini starters that are included are amazing!
Very good atmosphere e the food was very good the staff very attentive
+ + & - -
+ Relatively serene ambiance, with uncrowded seating rarely found in the area
+ With carpeting, tablecloths and leather seats, noise level is below average
+ Staff is friendly and develops rapport with customers
+ Daily specials take advantage of opportunistic market purchases
NOTE: It is a tribute to NY’s cultural sensitivity and diversity that this establishment, with almost exclusively Latin American chefs, waiters and staff, provides a good approximation of the food and ambiance one might expect to find in a good restaurant in Rome or Naples. This isn’t something that can be done by formula.
- Air conditioning is difficult to manage. Keep a jacket or light sweater at the table.
- Wine list is meager, overpriced and has only very limited Italian selections.
- There is an odd disconnect between the pressure to order wine or drinks and the otherwise relaxed pace of dining. We were asked for drink orders before we had finished sitting down and then prompted to order another glass before the last was empty. Yet the menus took 5 minutes to arrive, there was no pressure to order food and the food was delivered at a relaxed pace. Coincidence?
- Somewhat overpriced, even for a pricey area.
One of my favourite restaurants in New York. One came in there for (late) lunch and stayed to eat a seciond time for dinner…:-). Top Italian food and wines. Last time airco was a bit harsh, but got changed rapidly.
The branzino is delicious as are the pastas. The aribiata is not that spicy and the baked clams are small but otherwise the experience was great and the desserts were perfect ways to end the meal!
Outstanding. Easily one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life. Incredible service and impeccable food. Not to be missed.
