Il Mulino New York - Uptown
There’s no place like Il Mulino New York. The luxury Italian restaurant’s flagship Greenwich Village outpost initiated New York’s fine Italian dining trend and is still prized in the city’s elite dining scene. Zagat has rated Il Mulino New York as Manhattan’s No. 1 Italian restaurant for decades and has said the restaurant provides "one-of-a-kind" cuisine filled with delicious flavors, creating an "outstanding Italian classic" restaurant where "every dish is a masterpiece."
Executive Chef Michele Mazza, who hails from Naples, Italy, has proudly carried this tradition since 2003. Fresh ingredients, artistic preparation and impeccable service distinguish Il Mulino New York as one of the world’s premiere restaurants. In addition to fine dining, Il Mulino New York provides excellent off-site catering and products.
Noise level incredibly high. People are screaming at each other twice refused to move us to to vacant tables. Stated they were reserved if one wants to eat alone even if you are with others this is a possible choice if not try to reserve a table where you are sitting next to the person you might want to talk to. I do not know how important you have to be to reserve such a table. Noise level effects the service and of course the ambiance. Veal was good pasta a big disappointment
We felt rushed, waiters intruding constantly and not in above way, but asking “ready to order” or “”all finished” when some of us were anoise was terrible, will not retutn!
The food and service was excellent. The crowd is energetic, but your are moved along like an assembly line. Dinner for two, excellent bottle of wine and friendly service for $650.00 is not the problem, slow down....its not a race.
Food and service is unmatched!
Goran,& everyone there are amazing staff, not to mention impeccable service
Way overpriced for what they serve. The restaurant is very noisy, too crowded. The food is just mediocre.
While I usually love this place this time my guest and I were wedged next to a large loud “businessman dinner” and two ladies who who were basically screaming when they weren’t on their phones. We literally had to yell to have conversation, felt like the food was thrown at us. So disappointing
Great authentic Italian good and service
Better than the original one Great atmosphere . Great pasta. white truffle added plus.
Love the carbonara and everything at this restaurant
The food was poor. The service average. The setting small
horrible service. food was bad. overrated. their ravioli was over $50 which wasn’t even good. super salty. i told them that i would use the opentable dining rewards and they refused to take it.
Very nice evening. Usually go to the one downtown but this one is more convenient when staying in upper east side. Close second!
I would not recommend the restaurant to anyone who wanted to have a conversation while dining. The food was very good, but the noise level was beyond anything I had ever experienced. It was totally impossible to hear my guests only two feet away across the very tiny table. Friends had warned me about the unpleasant noise level, and online reviews had repeatedly mentioned the problem, but I had assumed the restaurant would have taken some easy steps by now to ameliorate the problem. I was wrong. I gather the restaurant does not care. There are other Italian restaurants with great food where the noise level is reasonable.
Went to Il Mulino Uptown on Sunday night. Surprisingly crowded. Just like the original downtown location tables are close and the vibe is lively, although a little less so than downtown. Seemed less touristy than downtown - more like a local neighborhood clientele. I've always loved the downtown location - but this was every bit as good if not better. Don't waste your time going downtown if you are uptown. Went with our 10 year old Grandson. They were very accommodating towards getting a very picky eater just what he wanted. I had the Veal Chop. As good as I've ever had. Perfectly cooked to Medium. Still moist and very well seasoned. My wife had her favorite, Chicken Parm - and loved it. Expensive - but worth it.
Good and service were amazing. Fine white tablecloth dining NYC Italian at its best. Fish was huge. Rigatoni Bolognese was perfect. My only complaint is that the two top tables are jammed so close (barely a foot apart) that it is uncomfortable and neighbor’s conversations intrude. Pricey but excellent.
Excellent , service is excellent & food is excellent
Very noisy, we felt rushed and the waiter stood over our shoulder while we were trying to decide on drinks making it very uncomfortable. For a 400 dollar dinner they should not allow patrong to order dinner at the bar so normal people can have a drink before or after dinner
The food is not up to the quality of the original
I’ve been eating at the downtown location for over 20 years, although I haven’t been there on a busy night in a while.
The food is what you’d expect — very good — and the ambiance was nice.
My issue was with the service. They rushed us to such an extent it would’ve been fit for a comedy routine if it weren’t my date’s birthday. Each course they would try to take our half eaten plates four times before we would give up and just let them take it. Finally, before desert, I gently told them if we want anything else, we would let them know.
After dinner, the waiter actually walked out of the restaurant and apologized saying that the restaurant made them rush customers to turn the tables over and asked me to please give them another chance.
Suffice it to say that, after spending $500 (with only wines by the glass) on a dinner for two that was rushed to one hour, I won’t.
Amazing... Wayne was wonderful... unbelievable service and delicious food...
Thank you and can’t wait to go back!!
Love this restaurant. The food, the service, it’s amazing!
Great as usual!
By far, the best Italian restaurant of NYC ! Actually, the best restaurant of NYC !
Leo and Team were Awesome
Very noisy, crowded. Inattentive service. Very overpriced.
They forgot to serve us bread with our bruschetta (came out later with apologies but it was after the bruschetta was finished.
They brought menus before we had a chance to sample the little appetizers, leaving us to hold them in our laps while negotiating the appetizers.
I ordered the “special” Dover Sole. Overcooked, flavorless, served with nothing. Not a hint of lemon, a caper, or anything else. There was some flavorless liquid under the fish, but it was shockingly lacking in character.
My dining companion had the “special” lobster pasta. Lobster was overlooked, over salted, and tough.
We waited 20 minutes after we finished to be able to get anyone’s attention for our bill, and then had a waitstaff stand over us with a flashlight while deciding on a tip, which was really awkward (and the most attention we received all evening.)
We had been to this restaurant a few years ago and found it to be exceptional; this was a major disappointment. I cannot believe a self-respecting chef would consider the sole to be special - it was so mediocre.
I won’t be back and won’t recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I felt very rushed from the moment we were seated. The service was fast and not attentive to details. They didn't serve us bread without being asked and they whisked plates away as we were still trying to finish the dishes. My husband's order was incorrect so it had to go back while my son and I had our food in front of us, so ours was cold when my husband's finally came out. The food was delicious always, but the experience was disappointing and didn't live up to past visits or visits to the downtown original Il Mulino.
Major disappointment. Overly noisy.
Loved it. Can’t wait to go back.
We had an amazing experience at II Mulino. The food was incredible, matched with the attentive staff. We will definitely be back.
We love this restaurant - its food and its service. However, lamentably, the noise level and frenetic activity detract from the original ambiance we so fondly remember. We will try it again, but hope it will be more serene next time around.
We were rushed. It’s generally that way.
We had a wonderful dinner -- excellent service -- excellent recommendations -- delicious fod in a pleasant atmosphere. What more could you ask for? Can't wait to come back!
Lovely dinner, with a wonderful, helpful wait staff
Great food. Great atmosphere. A little loud. Tables very close together. Had to try and get our waiters attention for check etc
Sry noisy and food was just okay.
Dinner was a disappointment, beginning with very officious hostess who did not want to seat me until my spouse arrived and gave away a superior table to a couple who arrived after me. The menu is quite boring with few surprises. And the rendition of the classics was not great. Veal parm appeared to have been cooked long before I ordered it with a blanket of cheese added following my order. It was so dry and tasteless, and $47 to boot. Shrimp oreganato tasted of iodine with a heavy gloppy sauce. I loved Il Mulino once but no longer.
Usually IL Mulino is superior to other Italian restaurants, but this last visit the food seemed to have slightly dropped in quality. Seafood was over-cooked. Also, the end of the meal drink being solely grappa was disappointing. Limoncello should be offered as well.
Goran, nello, everyone from.FOH to BOH was exceptional
