Il Mulino New York - Uptown
There’s no place like Il Mulino New York. The luxury Italian restaurant’s flagship Greenwich Village outpost initiated New York’s fine Italian dining trend and is still prized in the city’s elite dining scene. Zagat has rated Il Mulino New York as Manhattan’s No. 1 Italian restaurant for decades and has said the restaurant provides "one-of-a-kind" cuisine filled with delicious flavors, creating an "outstanding Italian classic" restaurant where "every dish is a masterpiece."
Executive Chef Michele Mazza, who hails from Naples, Italy, has proudly carried this tradition since 2003. Fresh ingredients, artistic preparation and impeccable service distinguish Il Mulino New York as one of the world’s premiere restaurants. In addition to fine dining, Il Mulino New York provides excellent off-site catering and products.
Always great food and great service!
Excellent food and service. Very load but it is Restaurant week
it was restaurant week so place was packed. had pleasant drinks at the bar: very good Negroni! shown to table where we were able to sit side by side, oherwise we would not have been able to hear one another. (this is generally a very loud place). service was appropriate and professional. there is a captain who you are obliged to tip separately on the check but he did not show until we had already ordered wine and only presented the menu, never discussed the dishes and was never seen again. we ordered appetizers and pasta: everything was excellent: I originally chose the cavatelli but this was no longer available so had rigatoni with a meat sauce. perfectly done and delicious. we did not order the restaurant week menu
I want to be fair: this was restaurant week so things were loud and a bit hectic, perhaps more so than usual since we have been here several times before.
I would say give it a try you will certainly dine well and hopefully be able to hear one another
I have dines at several of your establishments and the food is always amazing. Authentic Italian dishes. Bread, cheese and zucchini starters that are included are amazing!
Very good atmosphere e the food was very good the staff very attentive
+ + & - -
+ Relatively serene ambiance, with uncrowded seating rarely found in the area
+ With carpeting, tablecloths and leather seats, noise level is below average
+ Staff is friendly and develops rapport with customers
+ Daily specials take advantage of opportunistic market purchases
NOTE: It is a tribute to NY’s cultural sensitivity and diversity that this establishment, with almost exclusively Latin American chefs, waiters and staff, provides a good approximation of the food and ambiance one might expect to find in a good restaurant in Rome or Naples. This isn’t something that can be done by formula.
- Air conditioning is difficult to manage. Keep a jacket or light sweater at the table.
- Wine list is meager, overpriced and has only very limited Italian selections.
- There is an odd disconnect between the pressure to order wine or drinks and the otherwise relaxed pace of dining. We were asked for drink orders before we had finished sitting down and then prompted to order another glass before the last was empty. Yet the menus took 5 minutes to arrive, there was no pressure to order food and the food was delivered at a relaxed pace. Coincidence?
- Somewhat overpriced, even for a pricey area.
One of my favourite restaurants in New York. One came in there for (late) lunch and stayed to eat a seciond time for dinner…:-). Top Italian food and wines. Last time airco was a bit harsh, but got changed rapidly.
The branzino is delicious as are the pastas. The aribiata is not that spicy and the baked clams are small but otherwise the experience was great and the desserts were perfect ways to end the meal!
Outstanding. Easily one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life. Incredible service and impeccable food. Not to be missed.
Always the best! They take care of you like you are familia!! As soon as you sit they are like ninjas with antipasti and cheese and drinks! Very intimate small place
Same waiters every time
We love it and come here every time we visit NYC! Even sometimes twice!! Highly recommended!!!!!
Excellent but very expensive
Wine by the glass very warm...at $30 a glass, a minimum of quality is exoected
Bad service, lack of attention, the waiters seemed too comfortable and bored
Not sophisticated food, very rustic and vulgar presentation
Bad experience, will never go back
Each time in NYC I'll Mulino is a must go! Never disappointed!
Our regular favorite place in NYC. Food is always exceptional, ambiance is perfect.
The veal was very good but the pasta dishes were very disappointing.
Very dissatisfied with food, service, loudness. I specifically asked the very hurried waiter if the pork chops were tender because I did not want them if they were difficult to chew. They were so dry, no moisture at all. I had one bite and sent it back.
My husband’s veal was fair.
We will not be back again and quite frankly have no idea how Il Mulino is rated so highly. Il Mulino if years ago was superb - not anymore.
Not fair for people to pay extravagant prices for poor-fair preparation of food, and a waiter who is so busy/distracted that he didn’t offer the truth when asked and made us feel anxious with his high-strung demeanor.
We made reservations well in advance and stuck us next to the kitchen, jammed in with other small tables. Never again
Definitely one of my favorite restaurants for Christmas Eve dinner in NYC. Our waiter had a bit of an attitude but other than that the experience was excellent
Wonderful as always! We make a point to eat here and in South Beach!!
We had 8:00pm reservations and we called to change our reservation to 7:00pm and they were accommodating.
We arrived at the restaurant and sat at one of the tables in the front, the waiter took our order brought our food and we never saw anyone again. We had to beg to get water, actually for fine dining in Manhattan this was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. The food was mediocre, nothing was worth the price. There are many better options, I don’t recommend this location. If you need to try This restaurant choose the 3rd ave location or Atlantic City, better off going somewhere else.
As always, Il Mulino was great. Attentive servers make the resteraunt the “land of yes:”
We sat at the worst table in the restaurant. Hostess talked us into sitting in the front of the restaurant. It was freezing cold and Staff continuously and I mean continuously walked in and out of front door to go upstairs. I’m not sure what was upstairs but every time they opened the door cold air came rushing in. Our food was cold because of that. It wasn’t the customers, it was the staff congregating at the front door. As for the wait staff, they basically forgot about us sitting in the front until it was time to hand us the bill. That was pretty funny. They never even asked if we wanted coffee. We ordered an expensive bottle of wine and had to ask twice to refill our wine glasses. They put the bottle of wine in a wine bucket far away from us. I have been to this restaurant 4 times in the past and was always pleased. We were beyond disappointed this time. Total waste of money.
We’ve eaten here for years and for some reason this restaurant and location was completely off yesterday. It was unfortunate for being from out of town with high expectations... it was not the best... we always order the same dishes... veal Marsala and the rack of lamb... the veal was over cooked and the potatoes were almost cold. Unfortunate. We told the server as well as the captain... they offered dessert but while check our bill they charged us for the veal dish as well as the chocolate cake... unbelievable... oh well... back to better service at the IL Mulino in Sunny Isles.
We were seated almost one hour after our reservation.
The meal was rus
Great spot. Never disappoints
The food was amazing, service was close to faultless. Tables, however, are very close together and it gets very loud in the restaurant.
If you haven't gone here please do yourself a favor and go. Fantastic service and even better food.
Food was excellent and abundant! A must if you are in NYC.
Was looking forward to our dinner... we sat down ordered a drink and the waiter asked what we wanted to order... we told him we needed a minute... he informed us the kitchen would close in ten minutes... so.... if that is the case don’t accept 9:30 reservations... the food was great but we were rushed.. to the point it was uncomfortable...
Nice room. Mediocre food and uninspired service.
Always great food.
We’re from south Florida and when we’re in town we always have a meal here
Always incredible food and service! One of our favorites in the city. But make a reservation because it fills up fast!
Still at the restaurant
Did not live up to our expectations based on prior reviews.
Generally bland and somewhat flavorless. Would not recommend.
My wife and I arrived to a mostly empty restaurant at 1230 on a weekday and had excellent service, interesting dishes to choose from and a variety of treats served before our order was taken, compliments of the chef. The ballet of small plates served and silver and porcelain placed and removed from the table was well choreographed. My bride had the lemon chicken and I had a salad with arugula and avocado and pasta with clam sauce..
Very loud and tight but understand it is what it is and did enjoy the meal
They packed us in the room like sardines which was not at all fun or comfortable. I would not go back to this restaurant.
Never disappoints. Food and service excellent. Our go to upscale dining restaurant when we visit the City.
The food was excellent but we were rushed ! They brought the food way to quickly and acted as though they wanted to turn the table ! The couple sitting on both sides of us said the same thing ‼️the wait staff was very nice but when we spoke to the manager he was a jerk and very obnoxious ! If you want to dine and have a great meal go somewhere else
