Il Mulino New York - Downtown Ratings and Reviews
I’ll start with the positive, the ambiance was very pleasant and my girlfriend and I had planned on going there for a while. When restaurant week came up and the restaurant was available for dinner we jumped on board and made a reservation for Dinner.
We called ahead since we were a little late for the reservation the welcoming was 5* however as we sat down we inquired with the waiter about their restaurant week menu. He informed us that they are not participating for dinner and only for lunch and proceeded to inquire what wine we would like to start with as the other serves started bringing us little stater plates. Our inquire about the restaurant week menu was completely disregarded and we were made very uncomfortable to make and exit and come back for lunch or to one of their other locations that supposably participate for dinner.
That being said we decided to enjoy ourselves and stay for dinner. The reservation we made was for 10pm through open table as there was a open reservation for 10:30 and somehow we were still rushed to order our main courses almost as soon as we arrived since the kitchen I guess was closing early. The dinner was excellent, at the end we asked the manager very politely about the false information online and he was very apologetic but still instead of a little taste of this lovely menu we got an even smaller sample and some a good 230$ instead of the 42$ x 2 prefix set for restaurant week.
My girlfriend and I are disappointed in the experience as how politely forceful the staff was in making us uncomfortable to come back at another time and stay for dinner regardless of the miss advertisement and misinformation. I thought avenue held on such high regard would be more accommodating.
My girlfriend was really looking forward to the New York Strip paying the extra 10$ for it would be great, paying 72$ just for the steak was not in our plan for that evening I would have been happier paying full price at STK or Peter Luger.
Fantastic food and service. The waiter recommended a very good bottle of wine for $100. Tagliatelle was fantastic. The black squid ink linguine with seafood was also very good but not as stellar. Tartufo desert was awesome. Its pricey but it is a great spot for a special occasion dinner.
As former New Yorkers my wife and I always treasured our times at Il Mulinos.
The food and service were always top notch. Now as Philadelphians we really look forward to coming again.
As you can see, we were there last Sunday and with everything so wonderful then we made reservations for our next visit to NYC
( today ) were happy to get reservations again.
See you tonight and thank you again for last Sunday.
What can I say? Outstanding from start to finish in every way.
I was told by many that the, "Downtown" location is, "better" than the, "Uptown." Personally I
feel they are both equally good.
The decor is charming and intimate. The staff are all polite and courteous. The food is on another level.
I took a cousin from SoCal to the Uptown location last year. He declared that it was, "The best Italian food I've ever had." He's pretty close to the mark with that statement.
I had the grilled octopus salad special and the squid ink pasta with bay scallops and shrimp. The pasta was cooked to al dente perfection. The seafood was all perfectly cooked and melt in your mouth tender.
My wife had the Bronzino which is one of her favs. They present it to you and then debone it for you. Expertly done to the point that I dare anyone to find a bone.
Enjoyed it all with a bottle of prosecco.
I've seen a few reviews that complained about the prices. Well if you don't understand that eating in NYC comes with a high price, then you are very naive. If I want cheaper prices, I stay in NJ.
A must for anyone who loves going into the city and enjoying an incredible meal.
Il Mulino exceded our expectations. Our server was wonderful and warm. The food was outstanding. They start you with many small plates of food and then end your dinner with grappa - from beginning to end it is a dining experience to remember. We can't wait to go back!
We came here after a ladies' day of dress hunting. The staff was welcoming and took care of every request. It's a great old-time Italian restaurant with food that can't be beat. My favorite dessert is the marinated orange. It's not on the menu, you have to ask for it. YUM!!
I have been going to IL Mulino since 1996 and I Never get out of there with a bill under $600 for 2-3 people! Today was the First Time I was denied my request for extra zucchini chips after 2 small plates for a table of 4! Now I would say include it in your Pricing! BUT when you are paying $70 for Oso Bucco and $92 for Lamb Chops what’s to include? We all thought it was WEAK on Management part to ask If we wanted additional zucchini they would charge us??? Very Weak for a Restaurant of this caliber
