What can I say? Outstanding from start to finish in every way.
I was told by many that the, "Downtown" location is, "better" than the, "Uptown." Personally I
feel they are both equally good.
The decor is charming and intimate. The staff are all polite and courteous. The food is on another level.
I took a cousin from SoCal to the Uptown location last year. He declared that it was, "The best Italian food I've ever had." He's pretty close to the mark with that statement.
I had the grilled octopus salad special and the squid ink pasta with bay scallops and shrimp. The pasta was cooked to al dente perfection. The seafood was all perfectly cooked and melt in your mouth tender.
My wife had the Bronzino which is one of her favs. They present it to you and then debone it for you. Expertly done to the point that I dare anyone to find a bone.
Enjoyed it all with a bottle of prosecco.
I've seen a few reviews that complained about the prices. Well if you don't understand that eating in NYC comes with a high price, then you are very naive. If I want cheaper prices, I stay in NJ.
A must for anyone who loves going into the city and enjoying an incredible meal.
Il Mulino exceded our expectations. Our server was wonderful and warm. The food was outstanding. They start you with many small plates of food and then end your dinner with grappa - from beginning to end it is a dining experience to remember. We can't wait to go back!
We came here after a ladies' day of dress hunting. The staff was welcoming and took care of every request. It's a great old-time Italian restaurant with food that can't be beat. My favorite dessert is the marinated orange. It's not on the menu, you have to ask for it. YUM!!
I have been going to IL Mulino since 1996 and I Never get out of there with a bill under $600 for 2-3 people! Today was the First Time I was denied my request for extra zucchini chips after 2 small plates for a table of 4! Now I would say include it in your Pricing! BUT when you are paying $70 for Oso Bucco and $92 for Lamb Chops what’s to include? We all thought it was WEAK on Management part to ask If we wanted additional zucchini they would charge us??? Very Weak for a Restaurant of this caliber
We have been to the Il Mulino in Vegas and there was something a little more special dineing in this location. Unbelievably friendly staff , greeting from entry to exit, Everyone makes you feel like you're part of their family. The food was abundant and exceeded expectations!
Very disappointed in this restaurant unfortunately. Went for an anniversary lunch during restaurant week.
Surprisingly the place was empty. Never a good sign especially during restaurant week!
Service was dismissive. Never checked to see if our meals were satisfactory. My steak ($10 supplement) arrived well done, not medium as ordered.
Waiter pored 1/2 bottle of wine into our two glasses to finish off that task! We were one of two tables in the place at that point.
Food was fine...pretty much like any local neighborhood restaurant. Not what I expected at this acclaimed and famous place.
Seems like they are riding on their reputation. Doubt if that will last long.
Cannot be certain. We were a threesome of Asian Americans. We note that the room had other Asian tourists dining. The waiter serving our table was polite but indifferent/bored having to repeat over and over the day specials to the tables he was waiting on. Noted that the service interaction with non Asian table was more animated an more engaging.
Grilled Octopus was good, Papardelle fair and dessert a disappointment. FYI, just had dinner last week at Il Mulino in Las Vegas. So much better than NY.
Hair in the bread - In the basket of breads that the server brought us, I found a hair in one of the cheesy bread. My boyfriend told the waiter, and the waiter only said sorry and took the bread away. He did not come back with another basket till at least 10 min later. Not saying I am looking for any remedy, just a simple sorry and long wait for a replacement basket of bread? I am sure there should be a better way to handle this situation.
Mix of tap water with bottled still water - we ordered a bottle of still water, which sits in a ice bucket next to our table. The server did not pay attention to that bottle, and poured tap water into our glasses half full with bottled water. Not saying this is a big issue, just something nice to be cautious of in the future.
Unexpected Credit Card Not Accepted - in the middle of our meal, the machine for credit card payment is down. Some tables who were planning to pay with credit card had to go through their wallet and say if they had enough cash for it. Fortunately, they carried enough cash with them. If that happened to us who do not bring cash all the time, we may have to go find an ATM and get cash.
Food - the portion is good for lunch; and the taste is alright, maybe I set the expectations to high, partially due to the fact that require credit card information when making the reservation and you may be charged for a fee if you don't cancel before sometime the day before the reservation.
Conclusion - not what I expected, and may not recommend to my friends or come back myself.
This was very unfortunate lunch during the restaurant week. As it happens often they decided to include to the menu the second class food. My seafood salad as a starter was not fresh, for desert they served canned pears!! Even thought all the waiters wear white ties, their napkins and tablecloths look great, they provide complimentary limoncello, the quality of food is pretty low. As a result whole place looks like a tourist trap. I believe also that adjusting the menu for a restaurant week is kind of cheap thing to do, rather don't participate.
Th food was as goos as always. However one of the fun things about going to il mulino was the free snacks. They continue to offer a bread basket, fried zucchini, one piece of bruchetta and one piece of fresh cut parm.. However they cut out garlic bread, mussels and salami.
A few of the dishes were very good although the chicken parm didn't live up to the hype or the outrageous price charged. Factor in it's probably the most pathetic wine list of any Italian restaurant I've seen (and they don't allow corkage), and the place simply isn't worth the price of admission.
Classic New York establishment. Cozy, old world atmosphere. The food is spectacular and authentic. The cheese, zucchini, garlic bread, bruschetta, and salami were all amazing and that was before we even ordered! The pastas melted in my mouth. Service is impeccable. Fun but attentive. Definitely a power room. Great Village location.
As fads come and go, this gem of a restaurant, (even though it is now part of a "chain" of Il Mulino's) remains a constant and comforting experience to be enjoyed. It is current, yet a throwback to a New York of simpler times and solid Italian food. The place never fails and the experience is worth it. Is it perfect? Nope-tell me what is!?. Is it great? Yep. So, go and enjoy a special evening, superb service from real people and fantastic cuisine.
