I ordered a salad with grilled large scallops. I asked that the scallops be cooked all the way thru. I received the salad with what appeared to be 2 scallops cut in half and done perfectly. I only comment because it was a very small portion of scallops on a large bed of greens. Would not order it again.
Innocently ordering ice cream for dessert, I was shocked to find it priced $12 for two scoops I was told by the waitress that the reason for this is that Il Moro makes its own ice cream. They might as well spare themselves the cost and trouble, because their ice cream is perfectly ordinary-tasting—Baskin Robbins' is better. But Il Moro's food is good, the pizza excellent, the cappuccino decent. As in most places, the noise level is deafening.
Oh my pumpkin! This pumpkin cheesecake is the seasonal dessert of all desserts. Where have you been all my life?! Dressed up with crunchy walnuts, fluffy whipped cream and drizzles of decadent caramel, your typical pumpkin pie just dreams it could be this dazzling. Each bite is smooth, creamy and oh so indulgent. Mini celebration going on over here. Cue up the holiday tunes, I'm now in the spirit!
I had not been to Il Moro in a long time but it was close to the Odyssey Theatre. My friend arrived before I did and elected to sit outside under a heat lamp because indoors was like a refrigerator. What a pleasure to visit a restaurant where we could actually hear each other and have a conversation. Those restaurants are few and far between. We shared a starter of zucchini blossoms followed by the daily special of sole and a pasta dish and even made it to the custard and caramel dessert which was fantastic. The only issue was that our server recited the daily specials so quickly that we had to ask him to repeat them. Service was unobtrusive and now that I have re-found Il Moro I will return.
Il Moro is one of my favorites and on a beautiful day or evening the outdoor area is quite nice. The wait staff is always pleasant and professional. The menu is creative with plenty of choices including daily specials and I have never had anything to eat here that I have not enjoyed. October is a special time as that is when they serve their pumpkin ravioli in a fresh pumpkin which is delicious as well as seasonally festive.
Outdoor lunchtime dining is delightful! The nearby modern waterfall feeds a lovely brook and drowns out street noise. Food is great, with a good variety. Service is very good and attentive. We have been here once before for dinner, as well, and we plan to go more often.
Il Moro is one of my solid favorites on the west side. The service is usually top notch, the food at least a B+ and consistent, and the patio lovely.
This visit I was slightly disappointed. My date's filet of soul was quite good, the mushroom soup was terrific, earthy and deep, but the pasta ala checca was a disappointment. I am used to getting pasta with oil and fresh tomatoes, the sauce was overcooked (the pasta was cooked just right), much more like a plain tomato sauce and the pasta was drenched in it. Back to a different part of the menu next time.
Popped in for pizza, pasta and salad with co-workers to celebrate. Got extra festive with an order of calamari and NOW we have a real party. Trust me - no one makes calamari like il Moro. So lightly fried to perfection - not so deep fried that you feel like you are eating greasy batter and little else. You can really enjoy the flavor of the calamari. I like a squirt of lemon plus a dip of marinara but really fantastic solo.
This is the perfect place to come to enjoy a balmy summer's eve. It is quiet and peaceful, no hassle to park, everything effortless. The staff was attentive and very helpful with ideas/suggestions. We even tried a new sparkling light red wine that I'd never heard of, not Proseco. Ssssh--don't tell too many people! This is a great find and never a hassle, at least during the week when I've been there for dinner.
Il Moro has been a favorite of mine since it opened. The outdoor patio is an oasis in the concrete jungle of Olympic Blvd west of the 405. The food is always delicious including the seasonal dishes, the wait staff is prompt and efficient but never overbearing, and overall it is always a genuine pleasurable experience.
If you go for 5:30 or so on weekdays, the outdoor patio is usually all yours so it's great for a date night.
The food seems to get better each time we come here. Difficult, because it's always been very good. Outstanding service from the front door to the walk out the door and the end. We will be coming here more often. I subtracted a star for the food quality when I saw how much oil had been used in preparation of this pasta dish.
